Yum! I met a friend for ice cream. The employees were nice about letting me try several flavors. I was torn between pistachio and banana, so I got both. There are lots of toppings you can get. I chose gummy bears on the side. The ice cream was wonderful. All the flavors are made in house. There are also great cakes. We met the owner while we were at the shop. He was friendly. I will be back. The ice cream shop is in the middle of a strip mall. There is plenty of parking. read more

On Monday 8/12 I went to Cold Stone Creamery on Atlas Walk Way in Gainesville VA (store #1248) to place an order for a custom birthday cake. The size, flavor, design, and pick up day and time were chosen, and I paid the $75 fee. The cake was to be picked up at 12:00pm on Thursday, August 15th, 2024. The morning of the pickup date, I called the store to ask for the dimensions of the cake in its container, to ensure that I would have enough space in my freezer. Immediately, it was made known that my order was nowhere to be found. There was, however, an unmarked cake in the blast freezer, with no way of knowing whose order it was or the flavor inside. It was suggested that perhaps that could be my cake. Either way, it was un-decorated. Worried, I asked the employee I spoke with what to do, and she said that she wasn't sure, that she would have to call her manager and get back to me. After not receiving a call back for quite some time, I called the store again, to find out the status of my cake. The pickup time was getting nearer, and the employee stated that she still had not been able to get in touch with her manager and was waiting to see if someone would even be able to come in to decorate my cake at all. After some more back and forth phone calls, it was determined that the manager, who is also the cake decorator, had a doctor's appointment and would not be able to make it into the store to decorate my forgotten cake. It was then suggested that I pick up my cake the next day, the day after my son's birthday, and the day after his party. At this point I asked for a full refund for the custom cake that they had completely forgotten, and if I could have a pre-made non-custom cake from their cooler free of charge, in an attempt to make up for the cake they forgot. Even without the theme that I had chosen or the custom flavors that I selected, I would still be leaving with a cake. Again, another call had to be made to check if this was something they could do, this time, to the franchise partner of this location. It was finally determined after the staff member spoke with the franchise partner, that despite forgetting to create my custom cake and making no effort to remedy the situation other than to pick it up a day after my event, that he would only be willing to give me 25% off a pre-made cake in their cooler. No apologies were offered for their mistake. As for the refund for my forgotten custom cake, I would have to wait until the manager was working next for the refund to be issued. I am at a loss for words as to how a business can admit to a mistake and make no real effort or give any viable solution to fix it. This location's business practices are rudimentary to say the least, and when given the opportunity to allow me to leave with a pre-made non-custom cake free of charge to make up for the order that they forgot, both the manager and franchise partner dropped the ball. Word to the wise: If ordering a custom cake from the Gainesville VA location, call the store the day before picking up to ensure that your order has been made, and again the morning of to double check that it's been finished. Based on my personal experience, I would order a cake somewhere else if you want your cake at all. read more

Whether it's gossiping, backhanded comments about orders, or acting like the customers are an inconvenience, I am unable to enjoy my ice cream with the sour taste that their customer service leaves in my mouth. read more

Beyond frustrated and likely this was the nail in the coffin for our family. I went into CS last week to buy $300 in gift cards for an event plus get my kids ice cream. I waited 10 mins at the counter for the gift cards while not being helped. One sweet teen was helping on the ice cream table, while two additional staff were visibly doing misc tasks instead of helping. One was restocking cakes, so she walked by us THREE times while we waited and did not address us or ask if we needed help at any point. One was in the back visible to us cleaning a soft serve machine. I'm trying to literally hand them $300, and they are basically refusing to help me. I felt really bad for the girl working the ice cream counter because she was getting the brunt of people with no help from her team. We ended up leaving and spent that money at brusters instead for the gift cards. Just even acknowledgement goes a long way for customer service. read more

Cold stone is my favorite ice cream spot! It's always reliable with it's flavor and consistency. The chocolate devotion is my go-to. It's chocolate ice cream with brownie, chocolate chips, and fudge. For an extra crunch you can add in a waffle cone and extra chocolate chips. The Like It (small) size is always a massive portion that I can't finish myself. I'm so glad that Northern Virginia has so many locations, and especially glad that there's a location so close to my house. read more

Way too expensive! I decided to stop in after work. Have seen people walking bay for months. Usually with children. Actually got caught during a fundraiser. Staff too anxious to get my order. I stood back and said I needed time to look at the menu. I haven't been to a Coldstone in years. They were chomping. I asked about an item pictured on the glass, 2 girls trying to explain the ingredients. It was loud, busy and I did come at the wrong time, I guess. Even busy there was some staff standing and talking so I was not holding up a line. I ordered and it seems more items are premade now. I stopped at this location yesterday for a like it size of pumpkin bread batter ice cream with Heath bar mixed in. I was the only one in line and it went quickly. I was fine with service and the quality of the ice cream. I did not have the melting experience that others have noted. I will share frustration with the credit card readers at Cold Stone. Signing for a $5 purchase is ridiculous. Slows down the whole process. I will continue to visit Cold Stone though. read more

Cold Stone is a little higher priced than many better ice cream chains. I stopped into this location tonight to buy a 6 pack of cupcakes and spent $13 on them. But, they make them by hand in store and the price is just under being worth it. This is the DIRTIEST store I have ever visited- and this is not a one off situation. I tried giving them multiple chances but this was gross. From the moment you walk in, filth. Carpet, walls, besides the fridges in lobby, dust on menus, dust hanging from ceiling vents and spinning fans, the walls behind the line, fruit flies every where---in NOVEMBER. I got the birthday cake remix and when he went to add the brownies and opened the container over a dozen fruit flies flew out. I immediately said no, I do not want the brownies. It smells sour immediately walking into store as well. That level dirtiness does not happen overnight- this is a build up, and lack of management and delegating. This is the worse location I have ever been to! It is always dirty and the customer service has always been horrible considering the high schoolers work here. But the last experience is pushing me to write this. My 4 year old is allergic to tree nuts. I ordered cotton candy and there was none left, so she went in the back to grab some. When she came back with the ice cream I mentioned as she grabbed a scoop and place it on the counter to mix the toppings in that my daughter is allergic to nuts. She stopped and stared at the ice cream and said nothing for good 5 seconds, then she stormed to the back. I was in shock!!! I have never experienced such an attitude!!!! Her coworker explained that for any allergies they go in the back to prepare the ice cream. Like it was my fault, paying customer, that I didn't tell her in advance! Then her coworkers started discussing among themselves right in front of me the reason why she was upset! Shocked! In their discussions they were excusing her actions. I'm not about to get into argument with a highschool kid who is prepping my daughter who is allergic to tree nuts, an ice cream. I'm writing this whoever owns this location to train these kids on how to talk to customers and behave when one is employed by a company. These kids aren't home or with their friends to behave this way. On top of that it's filthy on the counters where they mixed ice cream. Not going back! Will stick with SWIRLES by sheetz gas station! I've been to this location a handful of times. Today (Sunday 1/22) was the first time I had complaints on the location. I came with my son, fiancé, and nephew. I ordered the Milk & Oreo Cookies milkshake, my fiancé the Mango Pineapple smoothie, my son and nephew chose two flavors and my nephew got a couple add ins. No complaints on the drinks and ice cream. Complaints one was, the moment you walk in there a odd odor in the store almost described as mildew and clean products. This goes along with how dirty the floors and tables were. The bigger complaint however was the music that was playing. It was explicit version of rap and playing quite loud. It was bad when my 6 year old nephew kept pointing out there were "cuss words" being sang. We cut our stay short due to this. Last complaint is the staff, the two girls that were working were all business. A "what do you want" "Here it is" type of deal. Definitely not recommending if you want to make it a family trip with young ones. 1 star only because there weren't any complaints with what we had. read more

I've never been a huge Cold Stone fan...I feel like their ice creams are too airy, and you're paying for the fun of picking your own mix ins. But, when your summer swim team hosts a spirit night fundraiser there, you go with your kids! Huge props for the shop letting our team coaches be the kids' servers for the night, as that made it super fun for them! The kids enjoyed their choices with their buddies outside of the shop so overall, it was a good visit. I ordered delivery on DoorDash and they ignored the instructions that asked they contact me if they are out of something. So they took one of my 2 shakes off the order... which is stupid because why would one of us just be okay with not having a shake. So i tried to order a new milkshake multiple times (all different shakes) and the same thing kept happening... so i just accepted my pregnant self is not going to get a milk shake, instead my daughter could have the one that would be delivered. When it got delivered we were in for ANOTHER surprise... they delivered an ice cream with a little note. Which said they cant make milkshakes (why cant an ice cream shop make a milkshake) and couldn't cancel my order... but they canceled one of my other orders, so i don't understand. I agree this ice cream is expensive. I usually get the size "gotta have it" and then share 3-ways with my kids. This is a good deal. I've never had an issue asking for extra cups. I also always go with a signature flavor, this is also a better deal - and there's lots of great flavors to choose from... There are lines in the summer time because the gateway walkway is filled with people, and Cold Stone is consistently good. But don't look for a bargain here. I find the service to be very friendly. The only time I've been frustrated, is when there's a new person who is slow and often stingy with the ice cream. Often the serving is overflowing. If you are on a diet, they have sugar free fat free selections. The WW points value is going to be about 17 to 20 for a 'like it' - so this is something to save your points to go and do... There a lots of independent ice cream shops down on 29 "Effies" to try, and I would always recommend these over the big chains like this one. read more

One appeared to be having a personal issue and complaining about it, another totally impatient that a customer was taking too long to make up their mind about what to get. Well the place was pretty crowded with a line to the door. S.O. doesn't like Cold Stone as well as another Gainesville ice cream parlor. I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews. My kids and I are huge fans of Cold Stone and this particular location is closest to us. The store is always clean and the staff extremely friendly. With our food allergies, the staff is patient with checking ingredients before we order. The only complaint, as with all locations, is the small seating areas, however, this one detail doesn't stop us from frequenting the store all year round. read more

I LOVE the ice cream from here!!! Every two months, I change my "favorite" ice cream. I used to be a strawberry only girl and that changed with Cold Stone - the sky is the limits!! I am always greeted warmly, the staff is happy to take my order and it is always right. Every time I've gone in this place, there's a line out the door, and only half of the counter is being utilized to serve up ice cream. They could probably easily accommodate more people by utilizing the entire space. After visiting so many local creameries and ice cream stands, I have to say: I'd have to give it a pass. Maybe I'm just spoiled now, but I can taste the graininess in the ice cream, and realized that what they do is cut the corners on the ice cream, in the hopes that the customer will load it up with distracting addins. The customer service here could use a training reboot. I was greeted when I entered. 2 employees behind the counter, 1 appeared to be cleaning while the other checked out 2 customers. One customer asked for napkins, the 2 employees started to refill the napkin dispenser (must be a hard job). The other employee went to tidy the lobby, while I waited. The other employee finished checking out the 2 customers, finished refilling the napkin dispenser and began tidying up around the register. I was noticed when I let them know I no longer wanted the ice cream because the customer service was awful and too slow, for only 3 customers that had all been served. A general thing I look for at ice cream places is how clean it is! This one wasn't super clean or super busy, so I wish it were more on the spotless level. I had the oreo double chocolate which is a seasonal item, except I got it with dark chocolate rather than chocolate ice cream. It was super sweet! The chocolate devotion with brownies, choco chips, and fudge, is good but super sweet as well. If you have a major sweet tooth and just love diabetes and sugar, then you will love cold stone! However I'm more of a froyo type of girl. However, I will say the mango smoothie is really light and refreshing! read more

I am extremely dissapointed in this cold stone creamery. I come once every two months or less as a frequent customer and have loved it every time. Today i ordered a Birthday Cake Remix Ice cream and the teenage girl serving me seemed way to occupied by her friends to give a damn about what I ordered. She handed me a bowl with the toppings stacked on top of each other, not mixed in like normal. She actually was too busy talking to her friends than to make the ice cream. I dont recall her name, but she was working June second at about 8pm. I believe this employee doesnt deserve a job she doesnt even do. read more
