Ordered online for pickup at 841. Got there 15 min after that. They didn't start it yet. There excuse was there were a lot of online orders. Isn't that the purpose of online ordering? Don't order online. Not worth the wait. There were only 2 people actually waiting that didn't order before. There were 4 parties who were in the same situation where they ordered online and were waiting for orders. My recommendation is don't order online for pickup if this is an "estimate" and don't go there if you worry about the wait. Bottom line. Don't go there unless you like the wait. There are other places you can get ice cream/dessert. Hopefully Andy's comes back/custard. read more

Wish I could give a higher rating. We went at around 8:30/9 pm and they were out of strawberries and apple pie filling. The employees were nice but it was a long wait. The store is pretty small so it's not fun to wait in it when there are many other people inside. The ice cream was decent considering they were out of the main ingredients BUT by the time they made the ice cream it was closer to soup. I had never heard of Cold Stone Creamery until a co-worker/colleague got excited when I looked up the nearest ice cream shop and cold stone came up. I was concerned about the older reviews of the place but when we arrived, I understood better why the reviews from old were different from more recent reviews. This place is under new management. The co-owners are a couple who have ties to the local community having attended college in Evanston. He and his wife decided to purchase the business a while ago and the operations of this place seemed to have turned around quickly and completely. I met one of the owners (Husband) and he and his staff were very friendly upon entering the facility. The ice cream was good and service was just as good. It was such a good experience, I committed to bringing my family back to the place the same day (ice cream two times in one day wasn't a bad incentive either :) ). I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for good ice cream and excellent service. read more

I suppose I'm the Cold Stone newbie here. A friend and his lover had the Chocolate Chipper and didn't want to eat the entire cake since they're dieting and 'being good'. So what does he do? Finagles an impromptu visit to our home via the spouse (I rarely welcome unscreened guests) and the three are waiting for me when I get home. Given the looks on their faces, I almost thought there was a 'death in family' announcement. Turns out there was: after some nibbles of this cake, I felt as if I'd died and gone to heaven. Or perhaps it was hell. This is a habit I do not need. So to live up to my reputation as Satan's newest resident, the two were promptly ejected from my home. After leaving a meeting that required me to spend a beautiful day indoors, I was jonesing for a chocolate milkshake from another chain. The kind of jonesing that would not be ignored. Crap. I'm not that familiar with the area, so I walked around a little bit before heading back to my office in Chicago. I was unsuccessful at finding the other chain, so when I spied Cold Stone I figured this would do. Ugh. Terrible service. When I walked in, there was a guy standing in front of the door, kind of blocking the counter. I figured he was a customer - no, no, he worked there and was socializing with his friends. He grudgingly got behind the counter to take and make my order. Wow, sorry to put you out, dude. I ordered a small chocolate shake, but even their small (or 'like it' or whatever it's called) is ginormous. Seriously, who needs that much ice cream?! The service was totally unprofessional the entire time I was in there. The kids who worked there were more concerned with social hour than acting professional. It's been a long time since I've been to a Cold Stone, but I remember the service being outstanding and the staff having a good time. I mean, I can do without the singing, but... the service just sucked. The space is also very small - nowhere to sit and enjoy your treats, if you wanted to. I take that back - there were two small tables, but they were being occupied by friends of the employees. The whole place just seemed very small and kind of cluttered. The shake was good, and it sort of hit the spot. $5 seemed super steep though, so I can safely say I won't be coming back here for another chocolate fix any time soon. read more

They don't get how business hours are supposed to work! Today was the second time that I went there during business hours and couldn't be served. They opened the store a few mins later than the posted hours which is fine with me BUT then I went in with my friend and we were told it's gonna take them about half an hour just to set up -- if that's how long it takes them, then they should either get there half an hour ahead so that they are ready to serve customers during their posted business hours OR if they have some issue getting there earlier, they should change their posted hours to half an hour after they can get there. The 1st time this happened to me was when I went way after they were supposed to be open but they were closed (nothing to notify customers as to why but that was about a year ago). I will point out the pros though -- the girls that work the night are pretty nice and haven't really given me anything to complain about, so the safer option is to go in the evening. The pleasant service by the girls and cold stone's awesome taste are the only reasons I'm giving two stars instead of one but I probably won't be goin back in the day time again read more

Wish I had read these reviews BEFORE coming here! Worst Cold Stone I've ever been to. Somehow a sundae with less toppings than the smallest "signature" sundae came to about $4 dollars exrta, but that was the least of my concerns... It's unclear if this is because of "store policy" as the slow employee stated, or if it's because employees don't understand/care about actual policies. Not sure why Cold Stone would ever encourage employees to provide less than 1 full pump of fudge or caramel, or as the employee called it "a drizzle", regardless of cup size. Also unclear why employees would not be educated to place the ice cream in a larger cup before placing this so-called "drizzle" - if you're barely giving me a topping, maybe try to avoid it all sliding off the side and out of the cup... Finally, unclear as to why, when we ordered a medium shake, it was placed in the medium cup but came to at least 3 inches below the brim. Whipped cream was put on top and she didn't even need a dome lid because it still didn't fill the cup. This has never happened at ANY other location, so I'm hoping it was a fluke and that this location just doesn't understand ice cream, customer service, etc. I wrote to corporate... maybe they'll close this location...and open up Haagen Dazs there!! read more

It was my husband's 30th birthday. I wanted to surprise him with a delicious cake that I knew he would love. I called Cold Stone on Saturday, 3 days before I needed to pick up the ice cream cake. The gentleman on the phone was really nice and said he would set aside one of their Signature Cakes so when I showed up on Tuesday afternoon, it would be available and ready to go. Tuesday at 3pm rolls around and I stroll into the store. I asked the guy behind the counter for my cake and give him my name. Turns out, they didn't set aside anything for me! The guy pulls out a sheet of paper from the "Pre-Order" folder with my name and the specific cake I wanted set aside, and says to me, "Is this you?" He then proceeds to tell me that no one set it aside (because of course it wasn't HIS fault). So I ask him what the heck am I supposed to do now and he replies, "well you can choose one of our other cakes." I love ice cream. I would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. Needless to say, this guy did not try to correct the situation nor make me happy; thus, I will NOT be returning to this location ever again. read more

Huge yelper for at least 3 years, but have only written one review. This experience was so terrible i had to write my second. Place my order, a "signature creation," the girl helping doesn't even know what's in it. I can overlook that...so I just tell her as I'm reading it off their wall menu. As she starts to make it, she informs me they don't have peanut butter, one of the main ingredients. I say ok and ask for fudge instead...which they also don't have. She continues making it and moves to the toppings area. Asks me what else is in the item I ordered. I tell her almonds, to which she then tells me "o, we dont have those either..." They somehow didn't have fudge, peanut butter nor almonds---toppings that are included in at least half if not more of their menu items. Not to mention, that there were maybe half of the flavors full in the ice cream section--rest were empty. Maybe when you are out of such key ingredients, you should let your customers know, PRIOR to making it all...spent nearly $6 dollars on something that was missing half of the ingredients. Walked in 9/23/2011. Nice enough boys behind the counter. Quite a mess on back counters as they were churning out waffle cones - but no big deal. No malt for chocolate malts - okay, I can deal with that as well. Asked for a plain chocolate milkshake instead- what? - no lids! C'mon, get you act together Mr. Owner. I've been back several times since the 2011 visit. Thrice I've been unable to order a milk shake because of an equipment problem. Another sub par experience at this Cold Stone location. The biggest issues in the past have been unprofessional staff and lack of consistency in producing orders. However, this time I think I might have lost $25 when I bought a gift card for my girlfriend's birthday. After I gave her the card for her birthday we went back to the shop to use it, but apparently the clerk didn't activate the card correctly. We still have the receipt and talked to the manager about the issue without any resolution. Next we tried corporate, but no solution there either. I used to go to Cold Stone all the time before I moved to Evanston, and they were fantastic and the employees were fun! This location is absolutely the worst excuse for a business! It all began when I tried to go probably about 3 times during their specified business hours, but they're doors were locked (even in the afternoon)! I forgave them for that because I wanted a milkshake one day. For some reason, they were out of the mix for the milkshake (um, I didn't know there was one...). The next time I went back, their blender was broken. Next time - it was the milk that they were out of. Finally, they were out of chocolate ice cream. Why can't I just get a simple chocolate milkshake?? The last time I went there, they were out of both chocolate and vanilla ice cream (and this was in the afternoon during the summer). What kind of creamery is out of the two most basic flavors of ice cream on any day during the summer??? I hadn't been to a Coldstones in easily 6 years. I happened to find out about this one on the customer appreciation day. They ran this place like a well oiled machine. The influx of customers did not negatively impact the service. I later found out that the owners are a married couple, which for some reason made me love it more. Last night at a birthday party I had a delicious ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery that blew me away! I happen to love red velvet cake, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and Oreos, and this cake from Cold Stone had all of these flavors and toppings mixed into one cake. I also got to try their "Better Cream" icing that is a perfect blend of buttercream and whipped cream. I asked the host where the cake was from, and she said it was from the Cold Stone Creamery location in Evanston, IL. I had no idea that Cold Stone created custom cakes, and I truly enjoyed every bite. I'll definitely consider a Cold Stone custom cake for my next gathering! read more

I'm writing this review to add it to my "birthday list" - as in one of the places where you can get a coupon for a free scoop during the month of your birthday. Again, you must sign up with a little personal information, but I think it's worth it. I usually enjoy the Birthday Cake Remix anyway, so it just seems appropriate to enjoy it near my date of birth. The place itself is small, but in the summer, I think they have some seats outside. It's located half a block from the fountain in downtown Evanston, so if you're coming here to get a cool treat in the hot weather, you can sit around there and enjoy. They should not deserve a star. I had gone there twice and either they are under staff with no one to help or their equipment broke down. Despite I got a free coupon several weeks back I decided to give Stone Cold Creamy a try again on Saturday September 24, 2016. This time it was under staff. I went to Epic Burger to have my early diner and came back maybe thinking the line was gone for desert. IT WAS NOT. What really upset me was the cashier did not have a key to access the building and had to hop over the display of ice cream and then he helps someone else that I was ahead of in line. He also did NOT wear his name tag. I did report this to the website of Stone Cold and I wish people NEVER to go to this sorry excuse location of an Ice Cream Parlor for ANYTHING. This place is turning it around. Employees immediately greeted me when I entered the store, and they were attentive to what I was looking for. Samples were offered without me asking. Ice cream was what you'd expect for a Cold Stone--great. Lady behind me asked me for a cake, and the manager helped her pick one out and decorated it herself. I talked to her afterwards--turns out she's not just the manager but a co-owner! She and her husband bought the place a few weeks back, and they seem determined to make it a better shop than their predecessors had. A few days ago, I decided to reward my toddler with some ice cream. So we went to our local Cold Stone Creamery. Our ice cream creations were delicious! I've had some good experiences at this ColdStone. I live pretty much in-between this one and the one in Lincoln Square, and parking is easier at this one, so we go here instead. The people waiting in line are polite and everyone that works there seems to know what they're doing. The few times I've been here the server has been super nice, too! I do agree that this ColdStone is quite cramped; it's easier to sit outside instead of sitting inside - you may get stepped on! read more

It earns three stars because it's the only ice cream place I know of in the Rogers Park/Evanston area. As everyone has said the place is really cramped and it's more like hot stone creamery because it usually 80 degrees in the joint. Service is crappy.
