Use the demonstration computers in the nearby Apple shop for internet and email. 2. Waterstones and Borders are good for reading books and snoozing. Unfortunately you'll get arrested if you try to borrow a book. 3. WH Smiths is good for reading newspapers, unfortunately they don't give you chairs and tables to read them in peace. Actually, if you're cheeky you can go to the Costa Coffee place upstairs and read there. The new library should open in Lion Yard next year. The reason for the delay? Apparently the developers are arguing with the council over whether it should be called 'Cambridge Central Library' or 'Cambridge Library Central.' I sh t you not.

Only members of the University of Cambridge and Academic staff and research students from other universities can use it. Undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from other UK universities can apply to access the Library for reference during Cambridge vacations. Even if you can't get in, it is worth having a wonder round the site to be impressed by the sheer size of it. And why not keep walking and have a look around the Sidgwick site of the University of Cambridge - home to the Arts Faculties of the University.

The lighting is mellow and I can absolutely lose contact with the world sitting with a book inside this library. They have a very good collection of multi-cultural books and dvd's. The laibrarians like the libaray are soft spoken and helpful and do a good job of keeping the library thus well maintained.

I only live around the corner from this Camden library branch, which is Holly Lodge. And even up to this day, I will always use the services at Highgate Library, for hiring out DVDs, PC printing and the photo copy machine. And I even reserve books and DVD from Highgate Library. Highgate Library is literally right next door to Highgate Cemetery, the place of Karl Marx's tomb.

I also order a lot of items online and if the Chelmsford library does not have a copy of an item then one is sent from another library in Essex at no charge - brilliant. They did have a coffee shop which I thought was a good idea but it has closed - I guess it did not do enough business.

I have often used this service and the books are shipped very quickly. The library has a large number of computers available for the public to use, but unfortunately you can only use them for up to an hour each day. I recommend booking these in advance as the bookings fill up a few days in advance. The cd selection is very broad and at small cost they can be borrowed for up to three weeks. Dvds are also much cheaper to borrow here than at other dvd borrowing stores.

During college (as a history major), it was frequently joked that you haven't really researched in a library if you haven't wound up making out in the stacks... well, after a day of research, I enjoyed some fun pictures and 'making out' with my husband, making this a thoroughly educational stop in our London adventure.

I also can't really imagine getting much work or studying done here. It can be pretty difficult to find a seat and it's so loud and busy that you may be better off going somewhere else.
