We did not sign up for cards, and therefor did not get to explore the rooms or stacks, but we did enjoy our walk around. During college (as a history major), it was frequently joked that you haven't really researched in a library if you haven't wound up making out in the stacks... well, after a day of research, I enjoyed some fun pictures and 'making out' with my husband, making this a thoroughly educational stop in our London adventure.

Even if you can't get in, it is worth having a wonder round the site to be impressed by the sheer size of it. And why not keep walking and have a look around the Sidgwick site of the University of Cambridge - home to the Arts Faculties of the University.

I also order a lot of items online and if the Chelmsford library does not have a copy of an item then one is sent from another library in Essex at no charge - brilliant. They did have a coffee shop which I thought was a good idea but it has closed - I guess it did not do enough business.

I have often used this service and the books are shipped very quickly. The library has a large number of computers available for the public to use, but unfortunately you can only use them for up to an hour each day. I recommend booking these in advance as the bookings fill up a few days in advance. The cd selection is very broad and at small cost they can be borrowed for up to three weeks. Dvds are also much cheaper to borrow here than at other dvd borrowing stores.

I only live around the corner from this Camden library branch, which is Holly Lodge. And even up to this day, I will always use the services at Highgate Library, for hiring out DVDs, PC printing and the photo copy machine. And I even reserve books and DVD from Highgate Library. Highgate Library is literally right next door to Highgate Cemetery, the place of Karl Marx's tomb.

With extra funding from both organisations, around £1.8million will be spent on improving the library. Building work has already begun on the third floor of the library, which means that there is no public access to this floor during the day, so the multifaith room is not available for use. Work begins on the second floor of the library on 17th November, then the whole library will be closed from 25th December 2008 to 20th April 2009, to allow work to be done on the first and ground floors.

If we reserve some books in a few days they will be available. There is a self scaning machine so we can do it if there is a rush on the counter it works neatly. There is also internet facility available on first floor for adults and even in kids section. Even photocopier is available in library which is easy to operate of our own. This library has a lage collection of CD's and DVD's which I know some do not have. Even though it costs 50p to a £1 to get them out, it's still a lot cheaper than buying them. In the last couple of years they have really tried to make the Library a nicer place - they have a lot more activities for children now and they have also put a little cafe in. The availability of computers is also good. I feel this library is accesible to everyone as they have a lift to reach all the levels.
