I think the main library in Chelmsford is excellent. It has a very good selection of books, audio…read morebooks, cd's and dvd's. I use it all the time. I also order a lot of items online and if the Chelmsford library does not have a copy of an item then one is sent from another library in Essex at no charge - brilliant. They did have a coffee shop which I thought was a good idea but it has closed - I guess it did not do enough business.

I have often used this service and the books are shipped very quickly. The library has a large number of computers available for the public to use, but unfortunately you can only use them for up to an hour each day. I recommend booking these in advance as the bookings fill up a few days in advance. The cd selection is very broad and at small cost they can be borrowed for up to three weeks. Dvds are also much cheaper to borrow here than at other dvd borrowing stores.

There is an excellent children's library with soft comfortable seating, and a superb selection of books for all ages. During the summer holidays, there are often challenges run which encourage children to read 6 books and then get a certificate etc. CDs, DVDs and console games are available to rent for a small charge, and there is a quick drop off point for those that just want to drop in their books without renewing or paying a fine for being late! Internet access is available to all, within guidelines, upon application to the main desk. This is an excellent facility that is well used by the people of Norwich.

The computer system is brilliant, as it not only tell you which books are in stick but where in the library to find them You can also book computers to surf the internet, which is brilliant if your home computer gives up the ghost at the critical stage in a project or similar. In all, the best library in the Colchester area and highly recommended for readers of all ages.
