Friendly bar maid and decent fish and chips. Fuller ESB! Haven't had a pint of that for years.

Washed down with a pint or two of Innis & Gunn and it was wonderful lunch that carried us back home.

Came in for a bachelorette evening. We wanted a low key evening of live music and hanging out on…read morethe patio We reserved a patio seating a couple days prior, when we called to let them know we would be a couple minutes late (Uber issues) they let us know that they didn't reserve seats on the patio and it was first come first serve and they weren't going to be holding a table outside for us. Not ideal and weren't impressed as we reserved it a few days prior on the patio. Thankfully when we arrived there was one table available that sat our party of 6. Service was good. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Additional service notes: 1. We didn't all receive waters until 45 minutes into the experience, and we had to ask multiple times for them. 2. The food service itself took a long time considering it wasn't super busy - mains took 1-1.5 hours after ordering. 3. When we finished our dinner we sat with dirty plates for a very long time before they were removed. 4. Coming from Toronto typically when bars/restaurants learn of a special occasion they will comp something or send out celebratory shooters to "get the party going" - could be the area, but was a little disappointed by the lack of acknowledgement from the establishment. However the Food was good, traditional pub fare. Nothing outstanding. Price was a little expensive for what you do get. Drinks were underwhelming. We don't recommend the margaritas. Tasted like bar lime - no tequila taste and for 12-13$ (Toronto pricing) they really should have tasted better considering. Surprised most drinks were $9+ for the area and they were out of coolers and had limited options. There was supposed to be live music but they didn't arrive or go on. (Part of the reason we chose this particular bar). That would have been nice to know ahead of time as we would have likely moved a reservation to a live music spot. All in all in the area that was close to us - Not bad. But not what we had anticipated when we reserved. Basic pub, nice patio - good view If you are looking for live music I would call and ask the day of, as the band/person never showed up to our evening as advertised. Personally I wouldn't go back - unfortunately nothing special.

I didn't go in myself, I dropped ma off for what she thought was karaoke on a Friday night. Turns…read moreout, it was jammy-oke, which, for those unfamiliar, is like karaoke but with a live band. Cool concept if you're into that, but it's definitely a different vibe than choosing a track from a catalog and singing along. From what I gathered, the band was friendly and offered an alternative when they didn't know the song my mom wanted to sing, but she opted out and left shortly after. No big deal. The place looked decent from the outside, kind of like the kind of pub you'd slip into for a pint and some low-key tunes. Later, I mentioned the experience during a karaoke chat somewhere else, and people who had been to Queen Victoria Pub spoke well of the jammy-oke setup. So, while it wasn't the right fit for my mom that night, others seem to enjoy it. Probably worth checking out if you're open to a more live-jam kind of karaoke scene.

So on a Friday night I suddenly fancied some Fish & Chips. But I am rather fussy about my fish. I…read moredo prefer halibut over haddock or cod. But as many know halibut is a premium fish. But I found this pub had halibut on the menu so I ordered two dinners plus a side (1 lbs) of wings. The food arrived hot and the fish was very good. The portion size was decent and the fries were still edible. I often find when ordered for home delivery fries seldom make the trip. I kind of wished more restaurants/ pubs vented their boxes so the fries did not get too soggy. I did find my order came with a generous portion of tartar sauce but they served white vinegar not malt. A bit of a faux pas here. I did find the wings a bit under done. I guess I prefer a bit of a crisp so I popped those in my air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 ° F. After that they made a tasty side.

But after so many times doing takeout it only happened once, so not bad at all. Halibut: 4.75/5 crispy and then soft inside. Yum. Sometimes could be a little more tender but most times we have ordered it was perfect. Chowder: 6/5 So good. So much flavour. Mushy peas: 7/5 How do they make it like that?! Never will peas taste that good. Chips: 5/5 Great chips! And excellent gravy to accompany. Onion rings: 4.5/5 Pretty good! Sometimes the batter is a little consistent but they are good overall. Highly recommend!

The batter wasn't too thick, greasy, or salty, and the fish filet was thick enough that it retained its structure when eating (instead of becoming a flaky mess). Chips were decent, but not the standout for me. Even their seniors portion size of fish & chips is quite filling. I also really enjoyed the seafood chowder, though it was on the saltier side. Shocked at how large the bowl of chowder was for the price, and they did not skimp out on the ingredients. No one wants a chowder that's 80% roux/cream base and 20% veggies with canned or frozen seafood mixed in. Be forewarned that finding parking on Main St Newmarket can be challenging during events and busier times/seasons!
