He's been retired for 2 years, if Medi-Cal or any other insurance company gives you Dr. Cohan tell them he's been retired for 2 years! We have now been Dr. Cohan for 2 years. And i just LOVE them even more. My son got very sick for about 2 weeks. Multiple ER visits, many late night high fevers (104+) a couple Pediatrician visits, They were testing him for Kawasakis disease. It was very scary. I was not sleeping, My son was not feeling well. It was a scary 2 weeks. Not only did Dr. Cohan himself call me back after i had after hour questions, but he called me back with minutes, and after 10pm on 2 different nights. His Vaccination contract was one of the many reasons i chose him, Having that added cushion of safety is nice when at the doctors. I dont care if he gets paid for it or not, Its not about the money, its about him standing up for something he believes in. Again, i love this about his office. And the staff have always been amazing. We have never had issues getting fast appts, or being put on hold for any unreasonable amount of time. They have always been friendly and helpful. And i can tell they love the kids. I will not be giving up our spot with Dr. Cohan. Hes incredible with my kids. And my kids love him. read more

The office would not pick the phone this morning though it should be open. No special message. We needed antibiotics for our toddler's eye infection. We drove there to find the note on the door that the office is closed because Matthew is out of the office. The light was on and the sign said Open. Another family came by and knocked on the door which led to an angry nurse showing up saying it was rude to knock. read more

My son was a new patient and it was easy and pleasant to make a check up appt within a reasonable amount of time from my call. Then I got a call from camp that my son was very ill and I had to pick him up right away. I called this doctor's office back and they were able to get him in that day to be seen for the acute issue. The wait wasn't bad at all considering our last minute appointment, the office was clean and very nice for children. Most importantly the front desk staff, nurses, and the doctor were fantastic. If I could give him a 0, I would. Literally, the worst pediatrician ever. You expect your child's doctor to be attentive, caring and providing you with accurate advice and an accurate diagnosis. Not this guy. He's not even worthy of calling him doctor. I had to take my son to urgent care because his office is closed on Fridays. Urgent care diagnosed him with having strep throat and prescribed amoxicillin. 5 days later, my son broke out in a rash all over from face to feet. I took him in to see Cohan. First of all, he walked in the room and said, "what's up"? What's up? That's not professional, at all. I told him that my son had strep throat and has broken out into a rash all over. He looked at me and said "and"? And I want you to look at him. He did not examine him just kept repeating that all was normal and to continue with the amoxicillin and it will clear up in a few days. I even showed him the bottle to be sure he thought it was the right dosage. I asked him if I should give my son Benadryl for the rash and he said, " Absolutely not". Unsatisfied, we left his office. After getting home I called the office and spoke to the girl at the front desk who informed me that there was a prescription of Z-pak at CVS for me to pick up. Wait, what? She said that since my son is having an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin, that I need to toss that and to pick up my prescription. She was going to note in his file that he has an allergy to the amoxicillin. Wait a minute!!!!!!! That is not at all what Cohan told me and my son. She apologized and said in no way should I give him any antibiotics with cillin in it. I hung up and called CVS and spoke to a pharmacist. I explained what was going on with my son and she immediately said he was having an allergic reaction and she too was going to note his chart of the allergy. She asked me who told me to continue with the amoxicillin. " DR. COHAN", I said. The pharmacist said "I don't know why he would tell you that but your son is not to take it. I hung up with her and called his office. I asked him to explain to me why he would tell me that the rash was normal and to continue with the meds he had. He said it was a misdiagnosis. What doctor doesn't know if someone is having an allergic reaction to a medication. A doctor that does not take his position seriously and evaluate his patients. I have filed a complaint with my insurance carrier and will be filing a complaint with the medical board. If you look for reviews on Cohan, you will see that he does this all the time. He says "it's normal". Be aware parents and take care of your kids by NOT taking him to his office. I do have to say that the office staff have always been very kind and professional. Anytime I have called for an appointment, prescription refill or to ask a question, Ashley has always been helpful. She is his saving grace. read more

I used to sing Dr Cohan praises until this last year. He's essentially gone out of practice y'all even if it hasn't been officially announced. They are literally never in the office. Almost always there's a gone to tend to a family emergency notice on the door. If you call Hills Physicians they will tell you he left practice but he's failed to tell Medi-Cal the same. My assumption is because he still gets paid for taking X amount of Medi- Cal patients regardless if he ever even physically sees the child. Apparently grabbing some extra money before he closes shop? We all need to report him for malpractice and fraud immediately. This behavior ruins it for others and harms the potential of availability to actually provide care that is needed. read more

I made a new patient appointment with Dr. Matthew Cohan (916-965-6560) for my two boys. When I was about to fill out paperwork, the receptionist asked for their shot records and my medical card. I was about to hand her the documents when I mentioned they were on an alternate vaccine schedule. She told me Dr. Cohan doesn't do those. I was shocked by this Doctor's unwillingness to discuss any details about their vaccine schedule and there complete unwillingness to work with me in managing my children's care. Additionally, when I arrived at the office the receptionist was having a dispute with another patient about that patient's boils. As an uninterested party, I should not have been privy to this sensitive information. Dr. Matthew Cohan and his receptionist are unprofessional, rude, and an embarrassment to Hills' Physicians. I changed my children back to their previous pediatrician, with the UC Davis Medical Group. read more

I have been bring all 3 of my girls to Dr Cohan since 2011. He is great with all 3 of my girls, (my 7 year old has autism). His staff is great as well. I's thankful I found Dr. Cohan. He is a great doctor and his office is nice and clean. we always get same day or following day sick appointments. Dr. Cohan has never rushed us and his staff are always so friendly. We've been going there since my daughter was born 12 years ago. I take my 2 children to him and several friends and family take their children there as well. I love the small office feel and never have to sit and wait. Im confused by the positive on this doc. Took my boy as new patient. Making appointment was easy and the staff gets all my stars they were friendly and fast. BUT the doctor not sure about him. As new patients i expected him to introduce himself and ask questions. NOPE! He walked in checked my sons eyes ears and said flu shot and any questions?! I was like um yeah not just flu shot hes due for his shots for school thats the whole reason we came and he goes no hes good. I was like um even your vaccine list says hes due at his age. Dr. Cohan has been our doctor for almost 9 years. He's straight to the point. Always calls right back, no matter the time. He's never tried to "sell" me anything. The staff has always been polite. Everyone has their moments. I know what it is like to work in the Medical Field. Call them out the moment you think they are impolite. read more

He even sits down with us each time and asks how we're doing as parents. He makes sure to answer all our questions no matter how many times I ask the same one. We had a doctor try to retract our son and when I told Dr. Cohan about it he stumbled back appalled that they had tried that and gave me a hand out on intact care (which I was already familiar with). After three strikes at a different pediatrics office we switched to Dr Cohan and love this office, the nurses and Dr Cohan. He is patient, well educated, and can easily reassure us new parents of all our worries without making us feel stupid. He always makes times for us and never makes us feel rushed. Impossible to get ahold of when calling, I had to physically go in,in order to get through. The rare time (not times) I got through I was on hold. When they said they'd call me back it never happened (multiple times this has been said to me). And when I needed a referral I had to contact them multiple times (2 times each week) for a month before they sent in a referral. On top of all this, our first visit and encounter with needle vaccinations was pleasant, the nurse was so gentle and where the needles went healed quickly with just a speck the size of a dot of blood. But the one nurse that my son has had since , is always so cold and she jabbs him so hard with the needles he bleeds through his band-aid... not one time since has been a good experience.. very glad I've switched. read more

I was a new patient and this was my first time at this office. I have friends at this office and had heard nice things about them. My appt. was for 2pm and I arrived at 1:50pm, I was given the paperowrk and filled it out and waited to be called in for my son's appt. and waited and waited. at 2:35pm, I asked the receptionist if we would be seen before 3pm as I had to drop off my other son somewhere at 3pm, she stated we would not be seen by 3pm (an hour wait, yes!!!) I asked if I could reschedule his appointment, another nurse walked up and said I was being unreasonable about the situation and that if I rescheduled his appointment, I needed to change my attitude before I came back in. WOW!!!! Really???? She was sooo rude and unprofessional and this was my first impression of the office. I will be changing doctors!!! read more

My wife and I have both had HORRIBLE experiences at Dr. Cohan's office. He is extremely pompous and arrogant and should not be in pediatric medicine. I brought my son in because he was having bad allergies and he continually spoke down to me like I was an idiot for being concerned about my 3 yr. old having very bad allergies. When I asked him if his office manager had followed up with him regarding a question I had about my son he threw her under the bus and said she never spoke with him. When I approached her after my son's appointment she was red in the face and seemed ASTONISHED that he would be such an ass. In addition, when I was leaving I asked the office manager what I owed and she said nothing. Then I got a bill 3 weeks later for my usual copay of $25. I prefer to pay my bills on time and since I know that my copay has never varied for the past 5 years I have no clue why she would say that i owed NOTHING. I have switched doctors and recommend that anyone who cares about their child SHOULD NOT go to Dr. Matthew Cohan read more

I agree with the other poster. If you care about your child DO NOT GO THERE!!! If i could give zero stars I would. My son fell at soccer practice and broke his arm. We went to ER. that night and they said that it was broke, The next day I went in to get a referral to an ortho because i found one that would see him the next day because my son was leaving on vacation the day after. They REFUSED to give it to me saying the ER. report came in and said "no break". I told them I think there might be something wrong with his wrist too that he was complaining of wrist pain. They said here is a lab slip get his wrist x-rayed and come back. Mommy instinct said other wise. i took the form left the office and told my son we are going to the ortho's. When we got to the ortho's I lied and said the referral is on the way they took him back re x-rayed his elbow and wrist. There was no break in his wrist but his arm WAS BROKE! He fractured his radial head! So three weeks in a cast and then we get re x-rayed. read more
