It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

I mentioned to my sister that I thought it was affiliated with Federal in Manchester. She asked one of the staff who told her they're totally independent of each other but that the owner of Tamper helped the guys from Federal set up. This really shows in the decor, atmosphere and menu of both places. We each ordered a flat white. When they arrived they were lovely to look at, and delicious too. My sister ordered the Big Ozzie breakfast, and I ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and halloumi. My dish was really beautifully presented. It came with a sweet chilli cucumber salsa, which is not necessarily something I would have chosen to go with the dish, but worked really well. My sister really enjoyed her breakfast as well. I tried a bit of the sausage patty and the hash brown and they were both delicious, really nicely seasoned. We didn't have any cake as we were fit to burst but there was a huge selection and everything looked lovely. I would definitely return and would recommend.

It made for a good Instagram, however, yesterday we went to Blacker Hall Farm where we ordered afternoon tea - only to be treated to larger sandwiches, a giant scone each, and three unique delicious desserts. This far exceeded my expectations and also was quite a bit more tasty than Betty's. Would definitely visit again soon!

Mothers Day Surprise!…read more We wanted to take the Mothers somewhere nice and out of town and had seen The Garden Kitchen had been visited by a number of our friends and family on Facebook, all giving great reviews and I can see why! We arrived for final service at 6pm and as you can imagine it was very busy on Mothers Day. The maître d' came straight over to us to let us know how long it would be until we were seated and continuously gave us progress updates. Whilst waiting we perused the small shop of local produce, had a drink and soaked up our surroundings. The Tea Room is a new addition to Holden Clough Nursery being built in the last few years, but looks like it should have always been there! It is beautiful and sympathetically designed to its surroundings. So, the food....WOW! I'd seen pictures but when our Afternoon Tea arrived on a mini picnic bench I felt like clapping!! (In fact, I think I did!!) Such a great idea and adds a little bit of originality and quirkiness to your experience. Everything on my picnic bench was delicious. The Mushroom soup was silky, creamy and full of flavour. The mini Roast Beef Dinner served in an individual yorkshire pudding was beautiful and of course came with a little jug of gravy and beef was tender and pink. The scone was fresh and light with jam that had just the right sweetness and fruit mix. My other main highlight was the Rocky Road, I'm not usually a fan because its too rich and sweet but O-M-G this was amazing. I still find myself thinking about it now two days on. The chocolate melts in your mouth to find small nuggets of biscuit and mini marshmallows.....all washed down with a great cup of coffee. John & Kate who own and run The Garden Kitchen have done a fanstastic job transforming Holden Clough Nursery over the last few years. The service, quality of food and surroundings are 10/10.
