in town for provisions and stuff and a drop in at the Spam® museum conveniently located directly across the intersection of 3rd & Main. was kinda hoping for a full service breakfast plus some sort of coffee, getting full service coffee with some sort of breakfast instead is not the worst sort of problem to have. coffee here is "better" than is my custom: bolder and drier than the House of Maxwell's with a little bite. not sure why everyone wants to dump out the remains of my previous coffee but they do... I just kinda maybe wish they'd ask if they should first. the grilled cheese (paninied) is not what I intended but it is likely a better option than CFS plus eggs and grits... sandwich comes with sliced tomato and minced onion cooked in - the 10,000-degree press does wonders for the acidic sugar in the tomato; think sun-dried fruits that were actually dried in the actual sun. stuffed wavy-on-top-smooth-on-the-bottom toast with herb sprinkle presents well but I'm not sure what to do with the fork. shop is comfortable with seating available at a half dozen kitchen tables, a couple dinettes and wrought irony patio sets or a rumpus room couch. the hard part of casual is not trying to hard to look like you're not trying so hard. friendly and efficient CHoM pretty much nails it :-) read more

Such a cute a spot for a small town! My sisters introduced it to me and been wanting to visit for the longest time. They have non dairy milk for the milks and also have sandwiches for food. My sisters loved the chocolate chip cookies. I got the Hawaiian latte and the flavors mixed well with each other. There is plenty of seating but which were mostly all taken when we stopped there. The employees didn't greet us when we at the counter and were talking to each other. But they were kind when we ordered our items. read more

This is such a cute little coffee shop. The employees are nice and friendly. They change their specialty drinks often but they all sound good. I usually get a latte with a couple flavors. They have a lounging area as well as tables if you work remote. They serve food but haven't tried it yet. read more

The Coffee House on Main is your only option for a locally-owned coffee shop in Austin, but it's a great one! PLEASE do yourself the favor of driving one extra minute and coming downtown rather than swinging through Caribou just because it's easier. You'll be glad you did! Kyle and the staff at Coffee House on Main have all the usual offerings of a good coffeehouse --- great brewed coffee, lattes and mochas (hot or iced), tea, hot chocolate, cold drinks, and more. But they really set themselves apart by offering delicious, homemade bakery items and some truly outstanding lunch items. Pretty much anything off the panini grill is going to be fantastic but my personal favorite is the tuna melt. I admit to being a fan of tuna (I know not everyone is) but this is one of the best tuna sandwiches I've gotten anywhere. The Packer Panini or the simply delicious BLT are always good, too. The crowd skews older, based partially on the location in historic downtown (with some great development taking place, by the way), and the decor reflects this... antique tables and chairs, potted plants, and other such trappings definitely make this place feel cozy as opposed to trendy, but it seems to work. There are huge windows on three sides of the corner building, allowing great views of downtown and pedestrian traffic. We wish that the Coffee House was open earlier in the morning. This reviewer in particular has to get his morning joe at Caribou or the local convenience store since the doors don't open until 7am. Perhaps there's not high demand for early morning coffee downtown but I would think it would be worth a try. Either way, I'll keep returning as often as possible ... it's great place to meet friends and colleagues! (At the time of this review, they also feature live acoustic music every other Saturday for a couple hours. Bonus!) read more

Across the street from the Spam Museum and in the heart of downtown Austin this modern coffee house with cold and hot food has an inviting look. It is the standard order from the easy to follow menu on the back wall. There are 12 sandwiches and some extras, a pastry case and it appears they'll make all the tempting coffee standards. I had the grilled cheese which takes a little more time to prepare but was delicious and the cheese cooled enough to not burn the mouth tissues. Deserves four stars for menu and food items but dropped a star because my brewed coffee was not near serving temperature and had been in the thermos too long. read more

I just moved to the Austin area and discovered this little gem downtown. I got a chicken salad sandwich on cranberry bread which was delicious. The chicken salad is a bit more runny than I'm used to, but regardless had a very good taste. I also got a cappuccino with salted caramel flavoring. They were very accommodating in helping me decide. We choose this restaurant as we were passing through based on Yelp reviews. This is a small little coffee shop across from the Spam museum. I had the tuna panini which was average. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich which was awesome, wish I'd had ordered one. We also had a hot Chi tea drink that was also very good. read more

Stumbled upon this independent coffee shop because of a recommendation from my car's navigation kit. Good brewed coffee! Good fresh sandwiches! Good chips! Wi-fi! Good brewed coffee! All right, get on track, besides the coffee, I liked the atmosphere. There were tables made of actual wood. Newspapers from the day were free to read, and big windows let you people-watch if you preferred. Good brewed coffee! read more

COFFEE HOUSE IS SO GOOD. My partner and I were traveling through and decided to stop here for a quick coffee based on Yelp reviews. Service was fast, and our drinks were fantastic. I got an iced mocha, and my partner got the breve, which was espresso and half and half with a hazelnut syrup. My preamble - I am not a local, I have only stopped here once and I do not see a return to the area in the future to give the Coffee House another chance. Okay, so the real stuff. On my cross country trip I made every attempt to find places to eat that I could not find at home - no stopping for lunch at a Burger King or dinner at Olive Garden. I took the extra effort to search out coffee shops that were independent for my morning fix. The Coffee House on Main was the only place I could find close to the SPAM Museum (that will be another review - but 5 stars) and it looked like it was non-chain so it was the stopping point. The problems were 1) There was almost nothing food wise, I was hoping for a muffin or something quick to eat on the road. 2) My coffee was slightly burnt, not making for a tasty morning treat. 3) My friend who was with me, and is not a coffee drinker could not find anything. Normally there is a hot chocolate or something that she can have. Unfortunately with no food and no drink she was left with nothing to start the day and I felt a little guilty that I had selected the spot. read more

We had great paninis!! So tasty! They were able to do curbside service and it came out very fast. We both had the lucky 13 and were very pleased. The cranberry wild rice bread was great. They are super close to the park so it's a great place to grab food and head outside! read more

Without a doubt my favorite coffee shop in Austin. I don't like truck stop coffee or diner coffee-I loved the decor of Brick House, but never liked their coffee. So add it all up and you get the Coffee House on Main. They have a great variety of brews and they serve it in a unique mug. I went with friends here and we all had a different but unique mug. I think that adds to the coziness of the place, at my house one person might get a Canada mug and another might get a mug with a pup on it. That's cozy to me. They have wi-fi here and I love the windows-perfect people watching here. I think these local establishments that are so "customer-oriented" will be the ones to save the floundering downtown. It will soon be 50% law enforcement center, so it is important to patronize these type of businesses. I will definitely be back! read more

Great for a meeting with a few people, tables big enough to do work, reasonable prices, and quality food. I love the soy latte and chicken salad on spinach and cucumber salad, which they will even make for me at 7 AM. You can expect to be left alone if you are hunkered down, but many locals stop and briefly chat with each other on their way to their day. read more

I walked into the coffee shop for a quick 5 minute meeting and forgot my wallet to purchase a drink. My employer and I chose that place as a meeting point, we sat down to just hand me some paperwork and the owner walked over and asked if we wanted mochas. We politely declined seeing neither us was staying long and the place was not busy. He then interrupted us again and asked if we wanted sandwiches, again we politely declined. We started talking again and he came over and said:" so you're not going to buy anything??WOW... "extremely rude, considering I am a frequent customer and all he was worried about was making fast cash. When we first moved to Austin we tried all the restaurants, cafes and coffee places right away as I am addicted to COFFEE and good treats. I found myself gravitating more and more to the coffee house on main as their coffee was always fresh and best tasting. I don't like the coffee you get and chain stores. I have referred my friends, family members and clients to this cafe as well and now they all go regularly too. You guys keep up the excellent service and products I recommend you to everyone!! Even my 10 year old lights up when I tell her she can go after school and her favorite is the different berry and apple crisps you make with a hot chocolate in the winter and a smoothie in the summer. When I went there for the first time. They said they had no milk that day and no flavored coffee. This seemed very odd for a coffee shop. The beverage I ordered was nice. The whole thing struck me as odd and I got the impression this happens a lot there. Have not been back since. I am a local who purchases quite a bit of specialty coffee drinks. read more

I love the cozy furniture and the menu variety. My favorite coffee drink treat is a decaf soy latte, extra strong, and they always serve it up with a smile. You can find a corner to be alone if you are a stranger, and the tables are big enough for an impromptu meeting, which is OK with the owner (naturally, being good customers is important to that.) The atmosphere is kind of French country house--not really avant-garde or urban hip. The owner is a big supporter of the local art scene, too. read more
