I have reviewed the West Jefferson location and this is a close facsimile of that diner. It is your typical diner layout with several tables (2-tops, 4-tops and a raised corner table) and 10-12 barstools facing the grill and cooks. I sat at the end of the bar and unfortunately the A/C vent was right above me and even with a sweatshirt I froze and the food got got cold almost immediately, as soon as the waitress set it down in front of me. That was my fault and just a heads up to pick your seat accordingly. Decent egg & cheese biscuit, I asked for extra crispy hash browns but they were the frozen ones and came out medium. Nothing a lot of ketchup and Texas Pete couldn't help. read more

A fabulous breakfast as we drove down from the mountains and back to the city. We were well attended by Tori who was friendly and appeared at the table as needed. Lots and lots of coffee was consumed with our large servings. "Griddle plate" includes a waffle, two eggs, bacon and grits. Ham and cheese omelet included toast. Two cups of coffee. All that for $22 plus tip. This is far from fancy but for breakfast, who needs fancy. It was filling, it was hot, it was tasty. The service was great. I'd eat here again! It reminds you of a Waffle House without the hype. It has a more local feeling. The staff is more friendly. The food is standard diner fare. It doesn't have the noisy atmosphere that WH usually has. I'd eat here anytime. read more

I didn't really understand why most of the tables were filled because the Coffee House Diner was just not good. The entire restaurant is covered in the white plastic sheeting you typically find in convenience store restrooms, so combine that with fluorescent lights and one-piece metal tubing booths and you end up with an institutional feel that makes Waffle House seem homey. Our server was friendly enough, but seemed more interested in chatting with her friends than taking care of her Customers. My dining companion ordered 2 eggs over medium and ended up with one egg properly cooked and the other cooked over hard. The grits were inedible. My garbage plate breakfast featured dry, over-scrambled eggs, unmelted cheese, and a biscuit that was probably frozen after being baked at the factory and re-heated to order. It was a step up from the eggs, but that's not much of a goal to surpass. Recommended only if everything else is closed and you haven't eaten anything in at least a day. read more

We were very excited to try one of the few breakfast spots in West Jefferson. We were greeted right away and received our drinks as soon as we were seated. The coffee was very watered down but tolerable. We placed our order within the first 10 minutes and waited an hour before asking our waitress where our food was. We received another tables order, made the waitress aware and we saw her walk the plates to the right table...red flag.We made the right choose to leave. Great local joint with an excellent menu. The servers aren't overbearing and the food came out fast with about 80% occupancy. Delicious and a great value. I'm one to judge a restaurant for its food not its eye appeal, not that it was bad, it's what you'd expect for a diner experience. I'll go back and recommend it to you. read more

I love CoHo WaSh, it's been a staple in my family's life since we moved to Wilkes in 2009. Whether it's a 3am meal with close friends after a night of adventure in the foothills or a family lunch after a long days drive, there is always great rib stickin food and cheap hot coffee at this spot. The employees (even when they're busier than a beehive in spring) are courteous and kind and have always gone above and beyond for us. read more

A Sunday morning breakfast stop. We called in food for the whole family! It was cheap ($27 for FIVE PEOPLE) and decently good. I found this place on a recent drive to the mountains, and it's an honest-to-goodness diner that we could use more of in this world. William Least Heat Moon talked about diners in his book "Blue Highways", and this place easily rates three to four calendars (you'll have to read the book if you don't know what I'm talking about). The menu is positively expansive in scope and selection, and the people running this place genuinely seemed to care about providing a good dining experience. Its better than a waffle house. I know that doesn't scream 4 stars, but they deserve a little recognition for good greasy food at a reasonable price. They also have multiple kinds of coffee which is rare for a waffle house kind of spot. I was leaving a camping trip and just wanted some greasy breakfast food and wanted it ASAP. We passed by another spot on the way to the interstate that looked way too busy. We walked in right behind a local and sat behind him at the counter. He recommended the cheese steak as it was after noon already. I asked what he would recommend for breakfast and it sounded so good I just let him order for me. I forget the name though. It was something along the line of a hungry man, maybe/maybe not? It was southwestern style toppings with eggs and biscuits covered in gravy. The menu mentioned nothing about jalapenos but luckily my orderer ordered it with out them. It was great and only like $6. If ever passing by, I'll check it out again. read more

Could've been better, and honestly used to be. I'm a very picky eater, so I can't speak for most menu items, but my favorite item used to be their fries which I've enjoyed for many years up until this last year. For the longest time I suspected maybe the cook was the problem, but then it dawned on me that my issue with the fries is always the same. Undercooked, even when I request them crispy, and so dry they're void of almost any taste. So now I have a new theory. I think they've switched to an air fryer, and I don't like it. If I was trying to eat healthy I wouldn't be eating out at a place that primarily serves food items classicified as not healthy. I don't like it when company's take the choice away from the consumer. Those championing this new air fryer trend have simply fallen prey to overhyped nonsense, and clearly don't pay enough attention to realize they've been sold a bad deal of goods. read more

Blown away by how rude the people are here. Sat for 15 min while being ignored and asked someone politely for menus. She just looked at me in the eyes and then glared before completely ignoring us, then just fixed herself a drink and disappeared. Everyone around us had been helped except us although they came in wayyyyy after. Seems like if you're a local, they'll jump to help you but if you're not... forget it...Don't give them your business if you want to feel welcome. Decided to pop in and have a bite after an unsuccessful hunt. It definitely puts off a Waffle House vibe. The only difference is that it seems to be a hangout for the locals. It's a shame that the new owners don't have the money to get the air conditioning fixed. It's hotter than the 4th of July in here and the outside temperature is only 88°. It's unbearable for not only the waitstaff, but the customers as well. It's been like this off-and-on all summer. Most of the time when the A/C is working, the air vents drip water on the tables, the benches and the customers. I guess they forgot the old saying "it takes money to make money". I've been coming here for the last four years and I'm not impressed with the new owners! If I had to work under these conditions, I'd be looking for another job!!! read more

I have ate here twice. On my second visit, I was craving waffles and this was the only place in town really that makes waffles. I have to say that the waffle was awesome, (crispy on the outside) and I would come back again just for that. I had waffles, two pieces of bacon and coffee for around $5. If your looking for incredibly cheap and greasy food then this may be what you've been looking for. The quality of food is sub-par as is the environment and staff. It must be on the same health level as eating fast food if not worse. Most entrees are served fried in a mound of grease. I suppose this is the typical diner experience but it's just not for me. Do not stop here. My friend and I made that mistake. Two other larger parties than us came in after us and got their food before our order was taken. There is absolutely no system for the staff - plates of food were left out undelivered for well over 5 minutes. The entire staff seemed in chaos and it wasn't even that busy. The animosity among the wait staff was palpable - not to mention visible since one gave another one the finger and complained about her to us several times. Then there's they food.... the cook wore gloves, picked up food with those gloves to plate - proceeded to take trash to the garbage and push it down into the open garbage can and resume cooking and picking up food with those same gloves. How they are not shut down for health code I do not know. If you want good, safe food, do not go here. If you want to experience something like another review said is "the twilight zone" this is the perfect place. read more

Each item came out cooked just the way I like it, and I ordered a lot: eggs over easy, liver pudding, home fries, waffle, and a biscuit made in heaven -- light, fluffy, and perfectly browned, butter- melting warm. Every time I order from there they cant never get it right either they forget something on the order or they send burnt black fries if I managed that place I would be embarrassed cause even the most simplest order they cant get it right I use to eat there all the time but I'll no longer give them my business I'm tired of spending the 20 to $40 on food there when they mess it up every single time they need to restaff every manager and cook cause obviously they have a hard time getting any order right very dis satisfied and use to love eating there the new manager they have the guy manger is very rude as well I could get past the rudeness if my order wasn't messed up every single time I eat there but today will be my last time ever eating there again I'm tired of wasting my money and or having to waste my gas to take it back to show them I definitely want except it to be redone cause they still mess it up sorry for the long rant but I'm tired of paying the price they charge for food and it not even coming close to being worth wat I pay for them to just mess up it's not rocket science but they sure make it seem that way read more
