The director is very helpful and my daughter loves coming here. Very helpful and friendly staff. She is definitely learning something new and they make learning new and exciting for her. We live in Downey but would commute here on Saturdays for her 4 hour class and she still doesn't want to go home after that.

I cannot say enough of this amazing school! I have a unique perspective as I am a parent here as…read morewell as a teacher of 18 years (at a public school). When I was given a tour four years ago, I knew what questions to ask regarding the curriculum and was impressed by the rigor, the class sizes, and the feel of community. So I decided to make the investment and move my son from a nearby public school to Rolling Hills Country Day School. One of the reasons was my son was diagnosed with moderate ADD and I knew he needed more personal attention and would thrive in a smaller school setting. It was the best decision! I do admit it took him a few months to get acclimated due to the academic rigor because the standards were different at his previous school. However, I loved it so much that a year later, I transferred my daughter there and now my third child attends RHCDS! I wish my kids could personally write a review. They absolutely love their school. They are eager to get to school early to play on the field before class! This school offers them a place where they feel safe and genuinly cared for. They not only have the academic rigor that in today's society is imperative, but they also prioritize in teaching values. Be a kind human is their motto and they definitely instill this on a daily basis. Learning and living by these values is what a child needs to thrive and be happy so they can focus in school. My son is now in middle school (upper school) and I know he will no doubt be prepared for any top rated high school. They focus on giving back to the community, character/values, teach independence, all the while really preparing these kids for high school. This school truly offers a fine balance. They have specialized teachers for various subjects, including technology. They also focus on presentation skills and even my little 7 year old has presented in front of the lower school! This is such an important communication skill that is disregarded in many elementary schools. I have also made amazing friends at RHCDS and I truly feel I am part of a family, or small community, even though I am a working mom and am not able to be there as much as I would like. I know my kids are cared for, safe, happy, challenged academically, and taught the same values that I teach at home. RHCDS is truly one of a kind and am so grateful to be a part of it.

We have been treated like family over the years - our children feel safe and known by their teachers and any questions or requests to the administration or teachers have been promptly and thoughtfully addressed. Our oldest child and middle school graduate, who now attends public high school, feels like she was well prepared academically and personally by teachers who challenged her to think critically and by expectations to be kind and respectful. There is obviously no perfect school and we are grateful to have found a school that aligns with our values!

This explains the highly experienced counselors, undoubtedly trained by Heather and Adam the owners. Some of the other camps in the area seem to have "on call" staff depending on the volume of drop in kids, which I found problematic because my kids could not identify regular staff to approach with questions and found themselves disoriented initially. This is what happens when companies exploit workers instead of seeing them as crucial childcare providers. The price difference at these other camps is not worth the inconsistent staffing or burnout amongst the employees about having unreliable work hours.

This camp came up in my "South Bay Summer Camps" Google Search, and I did not look back. I happened to book PBC on their last day of early enrollment. The staff was accommodating towards my hesitation towards booking my 4 yo. They answered every email promptly, and were extremely helpful with their information before camp started. Here are my takeaways from our first year of PBC Summer Camp: You book everything through their online portal. The portal is set-up so that you can enroll your child(ren) all in one shot. You pick the weeks that you want to attend, and they have an option to add or remove weeks. (You cannot remove a week once you've paid for it. I assume.) There is an optional lunch program that you can get as well. The food is delivered by Kelly's Corner, and the menu is provided a few weeks before camp starts. There is a Summer Camp handbook that spells out everything for you. It is emailed a few weeks before camp starts. The information is neither overwhelming, nor leaves you with additional questions. I actually appreciated the simple wording, and straight-forward handbook. Before each week, PBC sends a simple 2 page email with drop-off and pick-up reminders and any updates that are warranted. Sometimes there is a piece of paper that they give you at carpool that reminds you of the spirit weeks, but other than that, there is very minimal email correspondence that you need to keep up with - which I greatly appreciate. The themed weeks are awesome! Last week, was pirate week. They had a huge pirate ship bounce house for the kids, and the costumes were fabulous. There are dress-up days every Wednesday and Friday, and the campers and counselors get into character. Each week is truly memorable for the campers. My child gets in the car every single day at pick-up and talks about a game that she learned, a new song, or a friend that she played with. I am pretty sure that my shy quarantine child still has not said a word to anybody, but I do believe that she is starting to come out of her shell. Regardless, she is really having the best time ever! K plays so hard that she tries to keep the fun going at home. We have learned the rules of "What time is it Mr. Fox?" and apparently there is a blue monster in "Red Light, Green Light." K asks every single morning how much longer until we leave for camp. She truly loves to attend, and wants to go every day. This 4 yo is easy-going and chill. Drop-off and pick-up was simple and seamless since Day 1. The greatest part for me, is the extended alone time, since K comes home and walks herself into her room for a nap. One of the directors, Heather, greets every single car at pick-up and drop-off, and you can tell that she truly cares about the campers. Based on my conversation with her, this is their first time at RHP. If they happen to go back to their old location, we may be devastated by the 'longer' commute. (VERY short commute right now. Hah!) Our hope is that RHP has a pool, and they continue to let PBC use their campus for years to come. It is a great set-up, and the carpool line is always a joy. We look forward to spending the rest of the Summer with PBC, and it has been such a great stepping stone in our goal to reacclimate K to a structured school setting other than Mama School. PBC, thank you! We are grateful for the fun that you have provided to the community. (Posted from MamaGooLiving.com)

Without knowing anything about the camp and going just based on my friend's rec, I signed my (then) 6 year old son for all 4 themed weeks. The first day, I asked him how his day was and his response was, "I love Galileo!" This continued on until the last day of camp. He loved it so much that he made me promise I would sign him up again the following year. Throughout the school year, I kid you not, he would randomly ask me when I would sign him up for Galileo. Once, January came around, I had no excuse, I signed him up and we are all set for the summer! He is so excited and the fact that this year, it'll be at Montemalaga Elem will make the commute much more easier! I loved how all the teachers and staff were so attentive and always interacting with the children. Even at morning drop off, it would be strange if you didn't see someone dressed up in a funny costume to welcome your little ones and take them over the thresh hold into the magical land of Galileo (it was actually an alley with paper streamers...but the kids loved it)! Each week they would work on a theme and continue working on it, until Friday-the day the kids present all their hard work and show it off to the parents. Prepare to go to pick up on Fridays with an empty trunk. You'll definitely need all the space to take home the towers and models they've built! My son loved it and if he's begging me to sign him up all school year long... Galileo is doing something right! You won't be disappoint!

We found that Summer Studios was in the area and had different class options. We went in to check it out and get more details. David was very friendly and helped answer our questions. A date night class sounded like the best way to try it out at a reasonable price to see if we enjoyed it before signing up for a full class. On the night, we got there and the dog Sokkit was there to welcome us in. David talked us through the process and then he demonstrated the process for us, including explaining the "why" behind the steps. With that sorted, we got to get our hands muddy (covered in slippery wet clay) to throw a pot. David was watching over us and helped us with the steps as we had first-timer issues and questions. The setting was a nice way to try out pottery, and is a fun activity on a date night. We had the chance to make 3 different pots each, and they were each quite different but not too bad for a first time. David told us that for these classes, he does the work to finish off the pots (drying, trimming, firing, and glazing) and then we can come back to pick up the finished pieces. I'm quite curious how they will look when finished. Overall, very enjoyable and fun. We're probably signing up for one of the 4 or 6 week classes soon.

We lasted less than 2 weeks at this place. After day 2, my youngest daughter was informing us that kids are playing tag in small confined class rooms and disrupting other kids while they are trying to learn. We advised the school and Ms. Monet of this incident and requested some feedback about this. We were advised they allow them to play tag in a confined learning center. We were a bit setback as this is not a playground and extremely unsafe for others. Moving forward a week, we get a call from Ms. Monet advising the kids were playing tag again and running in this confined space. They bumped into my youngest daughter. She fell and rolled her ankle. It was sprained severely. All we got from Ms. Monet was a sorry and we will talk to our Teachers. After the discussion, she quickly moved onto advising there is a field trip. First Field trip to Popeyes, second field trip to H-Mart. We spend about $2500.00 for this program not to go to Popeyes or H-Mart. We as parents can do this ourselves. We immediately pulled our Daughters out of this program and requested a refund. We were told they only do accounting 1 time per month. Even after all this, they were trying to sell us on the fact they can do 1 on 1 tutoring at their facility. We passed on that ridiculous offer as we do not feel their is a priority on safety and supervision from Ms. Monet and her Leadership for our Children. On top of this, waiting on the refund for 6.5 days (6.5 days because we had to pick up our injured daughter) of going this school on a 4 week program, we were only refunded $814.00. Steer clear of this place. Its unorganized and self centered on revenue.
