If I could give 100 stars I would! My 2nd grader needed extra help in Math and during the summer she forgot a lot of the material learned in 1st grade. Our family kept going back & forth on whether we should move forward with Mathnasium or Kumon and we are so HAPPY we chose Mathnasium. It is worth every penny. Not only are their assessments spot on.... But they re-asses your child every few months in order to get an idea of what they're learning in their classroom & how to help them every step of the way. I can not say enough about Mathnasium! Last year they helped my daughter with algebra 2. She was really struggling and they were very patient in helping her succeed. This year my son needed help with geometry. Off he went. Both kids went 4-5 days a week. The center works through homework problems with them and/or provides their own work to strengthen concepts. Within days both of my kids had a deeper understanding and both raised their grades significantly. My son went right before his final and did not do his review. When I noticed, they were happy to have him back as long as it took to finish. ( kids get 1.5 hours a day) he was there almost 4 hours that day at no extra charge. They are kind and patient. I was concerned about how uninterested my child was in school during distant learning. It was hard for me to assess her, because she's rushing to get her work done so she can play. I put her in Mathnasium because I didn't want to find out she was behind when she finally gets to go back to in person learning. She loves going to Mathnasium, and even asks to go. I can tell her understanding of math and confidence has increased in just 6 lessons. I thought I was ridiculous for putting a second grader in tutoring, but it is well worth it to see her improve her understanding of numbers. My daughter was continuously using her fingers when doing math. I started to get really frustrated and decided that for the health of my relationship with her, we needed to outsource. I had done research on the various tutoring options around the area and concluded that Mathnasium would be the best option to try, Kumon was another popular one amongst my daughter's friends, but I didn't like the idea of additional homework. We went in for an assessment, and my daughter immediately felt comfortable with the director Hanah Colon. Ms. Hanah was extremely professional with me yet super fun and endearing with the kids. My daughter is usually shy and doesn't like new environments, but it was easy with Ms. Hanah. I reconnected with Ms. Hanah after the assessment and she was pretty spot on with Elyse's abilities and level in Math. We decided to commit and Elyse literally looks forward to going to Mathnasium. Its an hour each visit and she has gone over 20 times now and she has zero complaints. Her math has significantly improved and now she is NOT using her fingers. Side Note: Sometimes I have to drag my older son to wait with me in the waiting area at Mathnasium. There is a big table with chairs, various games and a chess set. I was pleasantly surprised to find Angie extraordinarily helpful and accommodating to make sure my daughter get all the help she needed, even changing some schedules around for her! My daughter got help from Nick and he has been amazingly patient and helpful for her and she got her grades up in no time. After going there for a month, progress was very slow. The kids are left to complete the assignments by themselves and then ask for help if they need it. That is not the purpose of tutoring for me. The purpose is to teach them what they did not understand at school and make sure they understood it. My son probably completed one page during the one hour. I was not happy at all. read more

I enrolled him in Mathnasium the summer before he started 6th grade in order to prepare him for middle school. Right from the start he loved going to Mathnasium. He actually WANTED to do math during the summer! They assessed him and pinpointed his knowledge deficits. By the time the summer was over he was ready to enter the 6th grade accelerated math program in middle school. He has received As from his 6th grade math teacher. This program works for him for several reasons: The tutors are great at explaining concepts to him, everyone is so friendly he doesn't feel bad admitting he does not understand something, and the reward system makes him want to work harder. My daughter was having trouble with math so I decided to sign her up at Mathnasium. I take her every week for a 30 minute session with an instructor since she is only in first grade. I'm hoping that this will build her confidence up at school so she is more willing to answer questions in class. My daughter now says she likes math so that is a good start! If your kid has difficulty focusing and hates math I don't think this is the place for you! Staff is great but did see a lot of new faces and turnover top to bottom during the year my child was enrolled. Mathnasium works and caters to kids who wish to further themselves and that have the desire to improve... my child was unmotivated and lacked proper focus, spent nearly a yr struggling to grasp simple concepts. One thing I'd say is there should be more transparency and communication when it comes to kids who just aren't getting it. Instead of letting it continue to drag on improvement plans should be communicated or recommended to the parents.. granted the parents should be on top of their kids progress or lack there of and address accordingly....but still for the amount of $$ paid monthly Mathnasium staff should alert the parents providing options considering all possibilities including the chance Mathnasium may not be the place for that child. read more

The staff here are great and we really love the Mathnausium system. We did Kumon for years and in retrospect that was really just a waste of time. Mathnasium is so much better. I'm a contractor that builds these facilities out so that Mathnasium can be up and running. My first contact with them was from the top. However, from corporate to the staff in these facilities that are there for the kids are awesome. Totally in tune with the kids and parents. You may wonder how I would know... my daughter starting having major trouble in 7 th grade math this year. I turned to Mathnasium. In fact, before any of this when we did our last build out in Manhattan Beach ( 1 year ago)I brought my daughter by to see the work her family's done ( she wants to be an architectural engineer) and she immediately clicked well with Angie ( who is now in Redondo Beach). They hit it off really well. A year later having trouble with math she is now with Mathnasium and doing well. So you see, it's not just about what someone can teach you, it's also about a connection, something our schools are failing in. Angie has been great and although she's not always able to fully just focus on my daughter each time, it's the compatibility and comfort level my daughter has that helps her to focus and retain.
