In our experience, we've had lots of success here and greatly appreciate the leadership of Miss Vinita and her professional staff. Our daughter had an innate zest for learning and a desire to read her own stories at age 3, but we didn't know to get her started or the best way to teach her at home. We needed to channel her energy, but we had no idea how to teach a very young child ourselves. She started with reading at this Kumon Center. We added math when my daughter was nearing 5 years of age. I love that this Kumon center works hard on those soft skills that teachers simply don't have a lot of time to focus on in a typical classroom, such as study drills, repetition, working independently, holding a pencil correctly, getting timed, focusing during learning time, building strong study habits at home, and getting comfortable with being tested. These are very important skills that are best developed early on. The benefit of this center is how Miss Vinita and team can carefully pinpoint learning gaps or any areas where a student needs extra practice to master a skill. The feedback is very specific and granular, which helps so much. Also, they know when your child is ready to move onto the next skill. Thanks to Kumon, our daughter was a full reader at age 4, knew all her sight words, and she could count over 100 in Pre-K. I am not saying this is the case with every child or that this style of learning is a fit for every family, but it worked for her. In Kindergarten, her advanced ability was recognized by her teacher and this has passed thru to the 1st grade. She was referred to the gifted program this year in 1st grade and completed the 4 gifted program evaluations with great success to get accepted to the program. She achieved a 99% score and a 9 stanine on the COGAT (a big, complex, and very long bubble test for a little girl) and she excelled in her other evaluations. Her 1st grade teacher has evaluated her reading and math skills to be around a Grade 4+ level. My son, who is 3.5 years younger than my daughter with very different learning interests than my daughter, started in both reading and math when he was a little over 3 years of age. He recently turned 4 and is on his way to counting to 100 and he is successfully building his writing, reading, and math skills. We greatly appreciate all that this Kumon center has done and continues to do for our children. Important to note: Your child will get a free skills evaluation in reading and in math when you make an appointment with Miss Vinita to check out this Kumon center. If you decide to sign up, it is a year commitment and contract. Kumon does NOT follow school or common core curriculum. It follows its own standard. There are lots of drills and repetitive worksheets and this works great for some learners but not all learners. You pay per topic (reading or math or both). Daily parent involvement and homework time with your kids is KEY to the success of this program, which may not be a fit for every family. You must also be prepared to take your children to the learning center 2 times per week on Mondays and Thursdays (a time slot after 3:15pm) or schedule zoom meetings. The bonus is that I get some food shopping in the Publix next door, while my kids are learning at the center.

We enrolled both our sons at this Discovery Point, location #43, including our youngest, who was twenty-two months old and couldn't yet tell us about his day; my adult stepson handled most of the pickups, and he is as agreeable as they come. We were also, in those same weeks, grieving -- we'd just had to put our family dog of nearly 18 years down. Try explaining "all dogs go to heaven" to a sad toddler before school. The center expelled our toddler on a single afternoon's notice -- no meeting, no warning, by email. Its own behavior policy promises a parent conference and a plan before it ever comes to that. We got neither. Days later, in writing, the company told us both that his behavior was serious enough to remove him the same day and that it had offered to let him return for the rest of that week. Both of those cannot be true. The records the center pointed to were kept in an app it had repeatedly told families was malfunctioning, and that I was locked out of for months before he was removed. Within a single two-week stretch, those records listed my son as three different ages, though he had been attending for nearly a year. On billing, the center's own director admitted in writing -- more than once -- that there were errors, and only issued some corrections. Then, weeks after expelling my son, the center asked every family to sign a revised disenrollment policy -- one that now reserves the right to 'immediately disenroll the child with no notice' and to 'terminate services for inappropriate behavior of parents or guardians.' Prospective parents should read that twice. I am not writing this in anger. A daycare holds something irreplaceable: very young children who cannot speak for themselves, and the trust of the families who leave them there. We were an easy family to be honest with, and we would have worked with them. Instead, the paperwork mattered more than the child -- and even the paperwork could not keep its story straight. I hope this helps the next family ask the questions we did not know to ask.

Their community has multiple businesses they can be assigned to. There are even Police Officers who can write citations for running or talking when it's time to listen. Children learn how to run a business, come up with marketing ideas, vote, pay invoices, get paid & open bank accounts with being taught the importance of saving. They get to also pay for things the other companies are selling. I would have loved something like this when I was a kid. They're always looking for volunteers & they provide coffee & snacks in the morning & lunch for all volunteers. I recommend volunteering because it's a beneficial lesson for children to learn. It's also fun to see the kids learn from their mistakes & shine through their triumphs.
