This summer was our family's first experience with Puddlestompers. We were very excited for a…read morenature-focused camp and hoped for a high-quality, memorable experience based on the strong reviews and the program's cost. However, on the second day, my son told us that his favorite part of camp was getting to watch Wild Kratts. I was surprised to hear that screen time was being used at a camp advertised around outdoor exploration, so I emailed the staff. They responded quickly, apologized, and assured me it would not happen again. What happened next was far more concerning. The following day, my son was unusually quiet and reluctant to talk about camp. When I gently asked what was wrong, he eventually told me, "My teachers said we can't watch TV anymore because you and Papa told them we can't. Next time I won't tell you." I was shocked and heartbroken. A private concern raised by parents should never be communicated to a group of children in a way that identifies one child or makes that child feel responsible for a change. Regardless of exactly how the message was delivered (I'll never know), my son came away believing that being honest with his parents had caused a problem for everyone, and that he should keep things from us in the future. I suppose the silver lining is that we used this experience to have an important conversation with our son about trust and reassured him that he can always tell us what happens when he is away from home. Still, that is a lesson we should not have had to repair after camp. Since sharing our experience with other parents, I have learned that children watching television at Puddlestompers is not unusual. We are not opposed to screen time, in fact we love watching Wild Kratts at home. I just didn't expect it to be part of a summer camp that promotes an outdoor, nature-filled experience. Other than this incident, my son loved his time there. I'm sharing this so prospective families can ask clear questions about screen use and how the camp handles parent concerns before enrolling.

Many of our sped children, including my own, thrive off of a predictable schedule. I intended to send her for the day to test out the environment. Imagine my shock surprise when she didn't want to leave. I received unprompted feedback about my kid's day and they kept an eye on her behavioral well being. I would send her back in a heartbeat. With "freedom" for the kids... that means they really just choose whatever they want. Perhaps I ought to have understood more clearly that Mario Kart and iPad games were going to be options. And taken that into consideration with my child's proclivities. He also had a hard time meeting other kids and making friends. Not usually difficult for him, but he said kids already had cliques and the older/bigger kids were condescending and mean. Oh well. There was absolutely no information given about the drop off and pick up procedure. There is only one narrow road in/out. No information was given about early pick up and where to park, especially how to avoid the busses that arrive at least an hour early. My child told me that some of the camp counselors were "mean" to the younger girls, speaking to them in sharp tones and with belittling language. As a parent I also encountered some negative attitude from some staff. The program for girls who want to be camp counselors is severely lacking in direction and activities. The program describes that the girls will learn leadership skill and work with younger children. According to my child very little of those goals were fulfilled. Overall this was a waste of time and money, not something we would recommend to friends.

My child attended the summer camp and this place was filthy, filled with mosquitoes. My child and friends were bitten so badly. No complaints were received well and nothing was done about it. Moreover, the programs and the activities were so mediocre, I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND their ridiculous pricing. In the name of COVID, they cut down all activities but they were okay keeping the entire children in one room packed (which is what you get to see during pick up). Now the staffs who watched the children are some underaged kids. My 6 year old child told me about- how the "teenage boy and girl was kissing" and when "that teenager got time, all he did talk to this one girl". I was stunned. NEVER AGAIN to BB&N summer camp. Decided to visit the Universal area (playground for all ages and abilities, seasonal spray park,…read moreseasonal mini golf and sledding hill)! We were on late afternoon weekday so not as busy or crowded as it would be on the weekend. The spray park has not opened yet (looks like will plan to open June 30). The good: I love the variety and amount of climbing structures and things to do in this playground. I love that this is universal (The Bay Area has a bunch of them and it's called Magical Playground- with plans to build them in each town). There is a free reservation system online for parking (max 2 hours) for weekends and holidays only. No Street or Neighborhood Parking is allowed. The bad: Because Mass is slow to add cool new universal parks, this one was hugely popular with the community that neighbors were complaining because there was not enough parking and people were overloading to resident parking. So hopefully there will be plans to add more parking. They have those built in shades but it is essentially useless because it doesn't cover everything. I wish there were more trees for natural shade. Because it was unbearable in the hot sun. We were sweating after 5 minutes. I can see it being very nice in the fall with cooler weather. 4 stars because this is an amazing playground but in the grueling summer heat, you could get a heat stroke so stay hydrated!

I've heard about initiatives like this from the TriCities area in Washington state but hadn't directly experienced one. I think it's great for families and the community that somewhere like this playground exists for children who are unable to access traditional playgrounds. My sister said this spot gets busy on the weekends and requires a resident permit to park in their fairly sizable lot (though I can imagine how busy it would get). My nephew had a lovely time with the various slides & also the firetruck.
