My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday night and it just happened to be Karaoke night! I immediately signed up to do "Good Ole Boys Like Me" by Don Williams. Which I then nailed! If I lived in the area I would likely be calling the Happy Cajun my second home. The bar is full of locals. It was a Saturday night when we stopped in and every Saturday is karaoke night. Steve H and I quickly made friends with the guy running the karaoke - he was awesome and did a great job! I drank some gin and tonics and had a couple of shots and enjoyed the atmosphere. The shots were a little small, so not sure what was up with that. I assumed it had something to do with the dry county and how you have to have a membership to drink. This is the kind of place where people are friendly and everyone is welcome it seemed. I saw all walks of life in the bar, which is always a good thing. The bartenders were great! There were pool tables and people having a great time all around. I could tell the people singing karaoke get lots of practice and likely sing the same songs over and over, but that is another reason why this bar was so awesome. It almost felt like going back in time a bit here too. The bar is a little divey and kind of a whole in the wall place, but this all adds to the persona of the bar. If you are camping down the road at Martin Dies State Park or just need a place to get away, have a couple of drinks and meet some nice people then stop in at the Happy Cajun because this place was bad-ass and a diamond in the rough!

The bartender and even some of the patrons of the bar were really helpful in giving information about the local area. We are new to the area so this was much appreciated. The two things that hurt the rating were the lack of beer and smoking inside. While the smoking inside is something I don't like I can look over that. But being a bar and not having beer is an issue. It wasn't just beer we wanted but it was also beer other patrons wanted. This could be a really great local chill bar if they could keep a steady supply of beer. If they would consider only allowing smoking on the back patio or elsewhere outside the bar would be one of the best bars I've visited. I plan to go again and try their Moscow Mules as the bartender said she could make them.

I also have a problem with anthony he's either the manager or owner I believe but I've seen him belligerently drunk and the way ive sat at the bar and heard him rumor about his employees is disgusting you can definitely tell this place is built on favoritism, and not just talk about the employees or even customers sometimes the way he talks to the employees directly is so uncalled for. it seems like the only professional people in this establishment are the dancers and the bouncers. Drink prices, amazing, dances are amazing. I personally prefer a VIP dance more one on one time with the dancer and you can even ask them to sit and chat instead of the dance. I like to talk so it makes it nice especially with a beautiful young women.

This was a great event to raise money for the Boys and Girls club. The majority of the event was held out back in the large grassy area. It was a beautiful day and it seems a great time was had by all. Once the BBQ cookoff had ended, everyone went inside for the judges to announce the results. After judging a live band played the rest of the night. The band was great. They played all kinds of classic country songs and even a few new ones. The venue was much larger than I expected. There was a huge dance floor and many tables spread all around the sides and in the bar area up front. One odd thing? The bar did not have tonic water. No vodka or gin and tonics could be served. That was a bit of a disappointment. After the long day of cold Bud Lights we needed to eat again so we headed over to the kitchen which had a short order window. All items on the menu were frozen and fried upon ordering. The chicken strips and fries were still pretty good though, but we had been drinking for a while, so who knows if they were really all that good. All in all if I am ever in Silsbee again I'd happily stop by "The Tonk" for some cold ones.
