Like many of us curly girls, I continuously made the mistake of going to hair salons that cater to clients with straight hair-- only to come out unhappy, broke, and trying to fix the mistake. Tired of being disappointed and burned by stylists, I turned to the internet and have been doing my own DIY hair trims and box dye for the past 10 yrs. This was my first appt with Cocoa. One month before I had decided to go natural and needed some education and a cut and style. I knew nothing about wearing, caring for or maintaining a natural style. Cocoa took very good care of me and I love that she was on time for my appt. She also taught me how to care for my hair and recommended the natural products which would work best for my hair. My cut is adorable and pricey but I got what I paid for..... an amazing hair cut and style, and many styling and care tips. The good thing is that I only have to go in for a hair cut every 4 - 6 months. When I wore my hair straight, I went to my beautician every 6 weeks and paid $80 to $120 each time. I spent much more money and more time getting and caring for my hair then. I am now 6 months past my first cut and my hair has held up well. I see Cocoa again in 2 weeks. From now on I will only go 5 months between appts as that is what works for my hair. Cocoa also responds by email. I have asked her many questions about care, products to use and where to purchase, and style tips, and she has always responded within an hour or two. Cocoa also researches extensively every product she uses and is a wealth of knowledge and information. She uses and recommends products made with wholesome, natural, ingredients. No grease, oils, alcohols, wax, etc are in the products. My hair has responded very well to the products she has recommended and my curls always look amazing! read more

This is important ladies as you have to spend a couple of hours with your stylist, and it is always nice when the conversation just flows. She is extremely talented and knowledgeable. I am a first timer here at Via Valencia! I met with Cocoa and we discussed my hair goals and what I was going for. I was super excited from the start to see her magic with my curls! Especially since I have had bad experiences in the past with other stylists that obviously weren't familiar with my hair type. Cocoa made me feel comfortable and I knew I was in good hands! Let me add that I haven't had anything done to my hair in quite some time, especially because I am rather careful with who I let near my hair lol (again because of the bad experiences in the past) My goal with Cocoa was to go lighter and bring a little "unf" to my curls. Pre-trim my hair had a bit of letter "A" shape going on or an uneven "bell shape." It was dark and a little mismatched due to past hair dye, as well as frizzy. While I did plan on going lighter, she explained that it is a process that takes time and can't be done all in one sitting because it can cause damage and breakage to my curls. I appreciated her realism and for caring about the protection of my curls. So she went in and did a balayage light brown and evened out my hair whilst also adding layers for more volume to give my hair more of a shape. Through out the entire process she was very informative in every step she took so that I would understand, as well as take note of how she applies the Ouidad products she used in my hair. This was my first time with Cocoa and I am super pleased with the results! I always go for a red. The particular shade I wanted this time would have only been possible by bleaching my hair. I appreciate that she was honest with me about this and didn't just agree to the color & then bleach without asking. Rather she worked with me, showing me samples and giving details to help me find a color I love - a red without bleaching - that I think works really well with my complexion. Where do I begin okay so I had a really bad haircut from a previous hairstylist, it was all un-even and it was blondish at the ends so I dyed it black... so it wouldn't be as noticeable loll but some how you can still see it...so I decided I needed to try another hairstylist out and I went and checked out cocoa, not only did she cut and fix my hair she did the balayage technique to highlight my ends blonde again I loved it I still have it the same way.
