However, the experience could be better. I am not a full member of the YMCA - I pay for just the aqua cycling classes. They expect you to buy a full package (8 classes), but don't offer refunds if you have to miss one. There's limited availability on Tues and Fri nights. Also, the aqua bikes are in a swim lane of a pool that's used for lap swimming, so it's not the most relaxing situation. In addition, the gym facilities are pretty old, especially the locker rooms and common areas. I would consider taking more aqua classes if they offered more days and instructors, but I don't think I would be interested in using their other equipment or becoming a full member.

If 18 inches of snow had been predicted I might have checked their website. But this was a rainstorm that never quite happened. I realize some low-lying places in Brooklyn, Queens & Staten Island may have flooded because of high tides and maybe all the Y's employees live there, but otherwise I question this, esp when they have no procedures to text members about closings. Everything else was open -- the stores I shopped at, Lincoln Center for a performance Sat night, buses, subways, taxis . They have to allow people to at least elect to receive notice of closings, changed hours etc. For holidays they at least post a notice in the building ahead of time -- you may have to go out of your way to find it, but it is there somewhere . While in a complaining mood, will also complain about cleanliness, or lack of it. They seem to employ a lot of cleaners, who seem mostly diligent, but most of what i see is cleaning on a dusting level, little if any deep cleaning. They mop the floors , and I think wax them sometimes. But grout is black, and don't b think it was all that color originally. And they don't enforce wiping machines after use, so few people do it. You see a couple people wiping seat. Why wipe seat? Do you work out in nude? Do I? Why not wipe down the parts you handle with the hands you don't wash after using toilet? Why not wipe down parts you breathe on? So if you go here it is really important to wipe down equipment BEFORE you use it since the person on it before you likely did not do it after use. An update to first paragraph. I DID get an email from them Friday about the weekend closing but it was in spam. I don't generally look in spam folder unless a question arises about something. So they did notify me, but I would have preferred a text, which I would have seen right away, or at least before Sat/Sun..

Their early drop-off and aftercare are what first grabbed my attention. The price is also fair. I am grateful that the center opened for the summer (COVID-19 times). Coach Tracey took the time to assure me that they were doing the very best to maintain a safe environment. The team is always available, and they are incredibly flexible. They are also very good at keeping the parents in the loop - many texts, emails at the end of each camp session, weekly Zoom meetings, and calls when necessary. If this location were closer to my home, I would not hesitate to enroll my son in 2021.

I parked the stroller and sat on a bench some distance behind the group. The children were about to play together, and I simply wanted my daughter--who is almost 11 months old--to watch other little kids having fun. I thought it would be a lovely experience for her. Unfortunately, it didn't feel welcoming. The teachers seemed very young, and I sensed from their expressions and body language that they wanted us to leave. Trusting my instincts, I quietly left. As we walked away, my daughter kept looking back. She didn't understand what had happened. The experience made me a little sad. I was once a teacher myself, and I always believed that kindness, patience, and making people feel welcome are just as important as teaching lessons. Children learn not only from what we say, but from how we treat others. I hope every place for young children is filled with warmth, inclusion, and compassion. A school should be a place where the next generation learns to embrace others--not to make them feel excluded. Every child deserves to grow up in an environment where they feel surrounded by kindness, love, and a sense of belonging.

Her favorites were the giant slip and slide, the film studio, and the game show at the end of the day. She also liked how she could always go get a snack from the counselor in the cafe whenever she was hungry. "There was fruit and goldfish and homemade yogurt things. It was great!" The setup of this camp allows children to really take ownership of their day, from what they choose to play, to when they eat a snack, to who they spend their time with. It is a very unique idea for a NYC camp, and it was the perfect place for my daughter. She can't wait to go back!

The kids can use CodeNinja devices & accounts if they want, so no worrying about pesky log-ins - my girl (8) wanted to bring her own account info. The drop off is from 6:00 - 9:00 PM which gives more than enough time for a nice dinner/drinks or laundry duties. Truthfully, it was the most relaxing and seamless drop off activity we have done. Ian who always greets us is so great. I called with a verification code once for my kid to access her account and it was seamless. He was also super informative on the company Facebook page when I had some nervous mom questions in reference to covid (super safe and clean - masks are worn at all times and they update often on the FB page) The summer camp has tons of week long themes that are on trend and aimed at the 7-14 crowd.
