The grounds keeper has retired but I can't imagine they would hire anyone any less amazing. This property was frequented by Jimmy Buffet back years ago. All the photos of him at the island are pretty neat. This 10 acre paradise is a once in a lifetime thing and we have been fortunate to visit more often. This year unfortunately the dates just didn't work out but we will be back!

We flew into Marathon airport from Alabama and South Carolina, and got picked up by one of the hosts, and we loaded onto a boat to the island. We were floored by how amazing the place was, how well thought out and well built it was, and the outstanding views, beaches and other amenities. Everything was solar powered, and there was plenty of power for our needs. We have been back three more times over the years, and each time it is even better than before. Seabird Key is a vacation experience that you will never forget. Great restaurants nearby, a seafood market if you want to cook at the island, and the fishing is great. Snorkeling and diving are as good as anywhere. Now there are very fine photos of the place to help people know what to expect, so there should be no hesitation in booking a stay there. We met the owners, and they are wonderful people who know how to put it all together for your enjoyment.

Okay so here's the deal. I rented a very nice home from these people and everything went smoothly…read morein securing the property. They provided adequate communication and we arrived at the lovely home with no problems. I will tell you, as past owners of 2 beachfront properties on Pawleys Island, SC and know intimate in's and out's of renting, as we did rent them out from time to time, my wife and I took careful care of the house and property. When there were 2 small issues, the said company jumped on it and expressed appreciation for our help in reporting the issues and they dealt with it per mel. Because of their promptness, we will definitely will be doing business with these folks in the near future...or so we thought. I will tell you the price was not cheap and included a $1,000 safety deposit. But fine, we were initially happy with the experience. My daughter loves art and decided to do art on the painted carport, a 2'x4' area located towards the front of the carport. I want to report there were tire marks noted when we arrived, but, it's a carport after all. We came in a Yukon XL with a Yakima Rocket box on top, so we could not park in the carport, thus, we parked outside the whole week. No problem. But, the issue we had was the day we were leaving, One of the nice ladies who works at said company called and asked if we had a good stay, which I concurred and commented on how well they responded and how we were going to use them again. Unfortunately for me, I did NOT get her name as we were in the throws of packing to be out on time, which we were. I did tell her of the "artwork" done by my daughter and if she would like me to clean it off. I told her where it was and what my daughter used, which was colored chalk. I told her it would be no problem and in fact was going to scrub it off anyway, obviously, as I did not want to incur a charge. She ASSURED me it was fine and not to worry...see where I am going with this? So everything is good, or so I thought. Some days later I received an email, no call, and they informed me the "owner" was upset that there was paint on the carport. I knew exactly what was going to happen and kicked myself for not listening to my inner voice and cleaned it myself. I responded that the nice lady called and I told her specifically of the artwork and if I should go ahead and clean it off and how the lady told me "not to worry about it" and it would be "fine". I do need to point out our daughter used water to spread out the color, which gave it a "painted" look. But was in fact colored chalk. I emailed twice after their original email and stated she had used water which gave it a painted look. But No email was received, no communication from "Vacation Rentals of the Florida Keys" was ever sent to me. I knew we had a problem and I knew more than likely what they were going to do. And they did. I received my security check in the mail yesterday minus $250.00 "for repairs"! Are you freakin kidding me? Really? First off, they should have communicated with me via email, text or better yet a phone call. But no...just crickets on their end and a cold envelope with the check. No response, no personal small note or anything came with the check. Again, just the "for repairs" on the check stub. I had a reasonable expectation that they would have been honest and forthright in dealing with this but, sadly for them, their behavior speaks for itself. It was unfair to say the least and again they made NO attempt to contact me to rectify , other than the check minus the $250. They have shown "very poor" business acumen for sure. Had they been honest and fair and if in fact the water stained the paint at all, (which I find hard to believe). No pics were sent to me to show the issue and the "mystery woman" who I spoke with should have footed the bill. Heck, I would have have payed half, which is even more fair. So my advice in dealing with this company is to "beware". My story is completely factual and not embellished in anyway. We will not be renting with them, obviously. Hopefully, although I doubt they will learn from this. Hope this helps folks. In closing, I left a stellar and glowing review on some damned website and if I can find it, will make an addendum. Shame on "Vacation Rentals of the Florida Keys". Was $250 worth this honest review? They should have been professional and called me.But chose not to. And so it is.

First the advertised pictures looked fabulous. Looked forward to our FIRST visit to the Keys. 6 adults and 3 children travel from western New York, 2 adults from west central Ohio. Early departure for all travelers. My wife and I from Ohio arrive first to Miami around noon and travel the annoying journey to marathon and arrive around 6pm after doing some grocery shopping to prepare for the arrival of the others in our party so they could have a nice meal. We pull up to the property and behold there are people in the back partying away. We talk to them and they inform us that the property they booked was booked so they got moved to this property (so if that was double booked how far back does the double booking go) and was told that WE were not arriving until Saturday! Here we go. I contacted the others in our group who were still on the journey from Miami who in turn contacted the rental agent Karen who informed them she would get to the bottom of this. So my wife and I at this time are waiting for any news with groceries in hand. Luckily in an ice filled cooler. 2 hours go by and no word yet so I decide that we need to get a place to sleep and relieve some stress And rent a room for the night. As soon as I pay for the room we get notified that the agency has found a place for us to spend 2 nights and it's and upgrade but we have to out because the owners nephew is coming in on Saturday so we can't stay there and need to move back to our original booked property. . so the party with the children go to the temp house and we stay at our hotel for the night and move in the temp house the next day. Getting a room was a good idea because one of the bedrooms wasn't even cleaned in the temp house and the cleaning crew didn't show up until like noon the following day. And took them like six hours to clean it. The place was huge. Raul, the pool boy did come in and clean the pool so that was a plus. The temp house had no propane in the tank and was informed that it won't be filled till the following Wednesday. Great for owners nephew. Obw the temp house is up for sale if anybody's looking for a $6 million property in marathon. I wouldn't pay more than 5.5 million for it needs a lot of work. Then we all move all the stuff out on Friday and move into the original house. What a cluster F...! When we finally get into the original booked property we are surprised at how different it looked from the pictures on the website. The original booked property was relatively clean. The pool Had no chemicals in it. The skimmer was shut off. no umbrellas on the patio. There was one, but it looked like the wind got a hold of it and tore it all up. There was a big table outback on the patio, which we moved around to place in the shade so we could have some shady areas to sit in during the day. That was the only table on the patio. Raul, the pool boy, did come in on the day prior to our departure and cleaned the filthy pool and put some chlorine in it. We contacted the concierge of the rental management company about the umbrella and the pool the next day after our arrival and was told that something would get done and nothing got done! Finally, I would like to thank vacation rentals of the Florida Keys for making our first visit to the keys such a miserable one that this will be our last one. and being so unresponsive and having trying to provide some customer service. And just a message to the property owners, beware of who your agents are. I don't feel that your properties are being managed very well. You should look into them from time to time.
