I first tried CoCo Ichibanya when I was in Osaka. Carlo and I were tired and hungry from walking and we saw a CoCo. I still remember that meal because of the amount of food we ordered (maybe because we made a wrong order with the size of the rice) and how delicious the curry sauce was! I was also told to eat katsu curry with a bit of Bull Dog sauce. That's how I've been eating my curry since. :) So, imagine my excitement when I found out they are now in Manila! Woohoo!
In CoCo Ichibanya, you can customize the amount of rice you want; standard serving size is 300g. If you opt for the smallest size of 200g, they will subtract Php20 from your meal. Also, you can customize the spiciness level of the dish from mild, normal to very spicy. The levels are from 1 to 5. However, you can request for level 10! Yes, I've tried it and it's really for the spicy food lovers out there!
I really love the curry sauce of Coco! It's the taste of Japan for me. I always get the standard spiciness level. Each time I eat here, I've made it a point to try a different topping each time. So far, my favorite topping is the Pork Kimchi + Cheese! Sooo GOOD! You must try that combo. Seriously. For extra toppings, go for the sausage or the cheese burger!
The only downside is that the price is a little on the hefty side. The flavors and the combinations make up for it though. But, I did find a way to be able to get an affordable meal for 2 people. If you and your friend don't mind sharing, order the 400g rice serving, agree on the spiciness level, then order your base topping. After that, you each choose an extra topping. Doing this, you'll be able to try more toppings and save more! Lifehack tip! :P
Anyways, please do try CoCo Ichi! I would highly recommend this place to curry lovers. :) read more
