What sets Coco Ichibanya apart from other curry houses is that you get to make your own set or dish. You can choose from what sauce and toppings you would want to have and can even get different add-ons like soup and drinks to your meal. Their curry sauce is just right and not too overwhelming compared to Indian curry which you can also adjust based on your preferred level of spiciness. I do recommend ordering ice cream to wash down the spices from the sauce. Their price range is surprisingly less pricey comparing it to other curry and katsu houses if you won't be adding much to your meal set. If you're not a fan of customized meals because you don't trust your own choices, well, don't worry because they also have ready made ones. The place just recently opened and there aren't much people there so there's no queue and they get to serve really quick.

My love for spicy food crosses over different cuisines and types of food. It's no surprise that I love cookingg and eating curry. One evening, I had to accompany my Dad to an ocular and his colleague insisted on treating us out to dinner. Psyched, we headed towards Estancia Mall and I led them towards the basement where I knew Coco Ichibanya was. My dad ordered the pork tonkatsu omelet curry which he finished despite his usually small apetite, his colleague got the clam, tomato and spinach curry, while I got the non-spicy shrimp gratin. I got the "meal option" for 2 add-ons and had a cup of flavorful onion soup plus a glass of their milk tea, which was served with the milk and sugar syrup on the side. Because the spice level of the gratin can't be adjusted unlike the other dishes, I just sprinkled spicy powder (generously) all over my dish. Paired with the pickled radish, I thoroughly enjoyed each spoonful.

SWEET JESUS, I AM IN LOVE WITH COCO ICHIBANYA. When it comes to curry, I'll admit that Japanese curry isn't my top-of-mind choice. That distinction always goes to Indian and Thai curry. But CoCo Ichibanya might have just changed my mind. At first, when I received an invite to try out this new Japanese curry house, I had my apprehensions. However, when I got to CoCo Ichibanya and browsed the length of their menu, I was more than pleased and excited. DIY curry! What a great concept! Wasting no time, I ordered the Pork Cutlet curry at Level 5 spiciness (in Japan, I've heard they go up to level 10), with spinach and natto (MORE PLUS POINTS!) on the side, with 300g of rice. Thankfully, I was with a lot of other people so we were able to try lots of other items on the menu. Their Japanese sausage is absolutely delicious, and goes so well with the curry! Their Pari-Pari Chicken, a fried chicken variant with no breading, was also really delicious. I was also clued into the fact that cheese is actually REALLY GOOD with curry (WHO KNEW?!), when my friend ordered a cheese-stuffed hamburger patty for herself, with sausage on the side. Their quick service needs to be highlighted, because it took less than 10 minutes for our orders to arrive - and take note that this was during a peak hour! So far, I learned that: 1) I don't consume a whole lot of rice, so the 300g serving of rice, which is the standard amount at CoCo Ichibanya, was too much for me. My colleagues finished their rice, however. 2) I should have probably started with a lower spice level, if only to appreciate the taste of the curry as a first-timer. Level 5 did the job in giving me some relief from my cold, though! I'm not especially keen on following food trends or lining up for my food, but in my opinion, CoCo Ichibanya is definitely worth the hype. I hope that they continue to be as consistent in the quality of their food and service! Good job!

Cheese hamburger, sausage and boiled egg. While I would have liked that the egg be soft boiled, nothing beats the cheese hamburger!

I'm in love with da Coco (Coco) ! - O.T. Genasis When he sang that song, did you know it was about this curry chain and not cocaine? Kidding!! (Really) But Coco's curry is just as addictive! Coco Ichibanya is a well known Japanese curry chain store from Japan, and the most famous curry house in the WORLD. Unlike other Japanese restaurants that serve curry, Coco is special because you can customize each serving, from the rice, the spice level, the number of toppings, and of course, your side dishes. They don't only serve curry and they also have a kids menu (Which is great, cause I hated spicy food when I was a kid), so it's definitely good for a family's outing. The only reason I'm not rating Coco a 5 because of their price. (They have the same prices in Japan too.) It's a bit too much to pay around 600 pesos for a meal that is essentially a glorified ginataan with rice... But really, when the food is THAT good, how can you not? I don't regret spending that much. 600 is a cheap price for my stomach's happiness. That said, I strongly urge you to get the cheese hamburger topping with maybe a 2 or 3 spicy level, depending on your tastebuds. Located at basement of Estancia mall, which is one of the newer establishments in Kapitolyo. Estancia is clean, and the design of the space is very open, compared to other malls that try to cram stalls in every available square meter.

The rice quality is very good for their curry style. The rice volume can be chosen from 200g to 600g by 100g each. Spicy level also from not hot to crazy hot. But not actually too hot. Price range is between P.400 to P.600 per head if you order something as side dishes or drinks. Good for family and friends lunch or simple supper, but not for business dinner.

Best curry ever! Loved the fact that you could change the spiciness level because I tend to love my curry spicy! I had the shrimp katsu with curry and it was a delight! Great quality and quantity for the price. I'd been wanting to go here for some time, but just recently got the chance. I was definitely not disappointed!

This time the visit was with my parents, my brother, my husband and me. We were served with delicious complimentary tofu with a great-tasting sauce. My brother ordered the aji tataki for us to start off and it's been a while since I've had this. Beautifully done and very tasty! My brother got the chirashi bowl. My husband and I shared the Gindara kaku bento - grilled cod fish, salad, salmon and tuna sashimi, tempura, miso soup with clams and mango ice cream. For dessert, fruits was the other option. My brother also ordered several chawanmushi for us to share. My parents shared the Nigiri kaku bento. There was so much food. The one down side was the fish in my parents' bento box was a bit tough, unlike the gindara that we had. I would probably recommend the Gindara kaku bento between the 2 bento boxes. We also had this soup that came in a small teapot. I had missed jotting down the name but you drink the soup from a miniature teacup. Glad we didn't order more food because there was already lots of food! Highly recommend!

But your perception may vary, as my reviews are mostly from the southern region of Metro Manila. FOOD 5.0 Nama Uni Sashimi (420 PHP) Sea Urchin or sea hedgehogs are those spikey things that I always think about avoiding when going to the beach But, I love them on my plate, It is very sweet and delicate, and it tastes like the sea smells, with a soft, almost creamy texture. A 3-step process starts with a piece of Nori (seaweed wrap), then a slice of cucumber, a hefty plump of uni on top, close it off and surprise your mouth with a taste of the sea. Tofu Gratin (395 PHP) Shrimp flavoured white sauce that's smothered with cheese and lots of it. The gooey feels were just too strong and I couldn't but scrape the pan clean. Every spoonful is a renewed experience, so it doesn't get boring. Assorted Sushi (720 PHP) Their hot dishes overwhelmed our taste buds with clean flavours, which led us to unintentionally ignore this initially. Sushi pieces that are above average in size and offer a refreshing taste. Beef Sukiyaki Iron Hot Pot (530 PHP) Beef Sukiyaki that's filled with a rich broth flavoured by the tender smoked beef. This is a dish to remember and one of the items I will recall and recommend. Tonpei Yaki (430 PHP) A Japanese style Frittata topped with extremely thin slice pork that wiggles from displaced air around it. It looked alive upon my first glance. You'd be wrong to think that these paper thin slices of pork wont satisfy, because flavour is not in volumes, but in density. These melt in your mouth and just release flavour that you'd usually encounter in chunky portions of pork. I for one enjoyed less weight and more flavour. The frittata underneath is fairly standard. SERVICE 4.5 Waiters take pride in the food they serve, we were even prompted to taste the Tofu Gratin first as it's tastiest when hot. They're informative when guiding you through the menu and suggest based on your taste and not the most expensive like in other places. AMBIANCE 4.5 I love places that impress on ambiance and Mangetsu surely did. High ceilings and even a second floor for private functions, this place is well decorated and spacious. Air-conditioning is centralised, which means an evenly cooled environment.

Interior aspect makes us feel high sense and quality, but actually foods served there are nothing…read morespecial. Maybe good for business purpose of use.
