Project is 10k+ after installation costs. Crew shows up on time and starts work to remove existing fence and posts. I get a call during this from American Fence telling me they have to upgrade posts from 4" to 6" at an additional cost of $400! Huh? I call and speak with a manger and he basically says they messed up. I'm waiting for the next sentence that tells me they will make this right. Didn't happen. Manger basically says, "too bad". Wow! There's an old adage - You never know how good a company is until there's a problem. Just read the owner responses to all the customer complaints. His attitude tells you all you need to know. No matter how "pretty" the showroom is, or how "nice" the salesperson seems, when there's an issue with your purchase, they won't remember your name. And finally, there's a reason they don't install and instead provide you with a list of their recommended installers. Because when an issue arises they will take no responsibility - they will blame the installer or the customer or the builder.

The first company quoted me exactly what I asked for, but they didn't ask any probing questions and didn't push back on any of my specifications. When Hicks Fencing came out, Tracy (the owner) asked numerous questions, which I liked, since I had only had and built wood fences at my previous homes. And most importantly, he pushed back when I told him I wanted a 6' high fence. He said that was significantly more expensive, it wouldn't match the neighbors and that a 5' fence would be sufficient to keep the deer out (they could jump it, but wouldn't, since they are so well fed by the neighbors). He also pointed out that I would need to get a water line easement at the back of my property marked (which he eventually took care) and that I needed to go about 3' further back than I originally planned to avoid my septic drain lines. I called the first company back to get a revised quote given the new boundary and shorter fence, but I was pretty convinced at this point to go with Hicks Fencing, which I ultimately did. He told me up front that they were backed up and probably wouldn't be able to start work for 2 months, but that he would install a small temporary fence (at no charge) so we could let our dog out without worrying he would run off chasing deer. Three months have passed, the permanent fence was completed a couple of weeks ago and we are very happy with it. It has three gates (two 4' and one 6' gate), they all function well, are nicely balanced and all three use the same key for the locks, which is convenient (something I should have thought to ask for and didn't). Hicks Fencing has apparently built most of the fences in Shady Oaks and neighbors have told me they are super happy with their fences years later, so I am hopeful and confident the quality of our fence will withstand the test of time. Oh yeah, great communication. Tracy called me periodically while the weeks went by to give me start and status updates, which was comforting. He let me know ahead of time when the stone would be delivered, where it would be stacked, when their trailer would be set up and where, etc. All communication was timely and excellent. He didn't request any payment until about two days before starting work to cover material costs for the stone columns. They ended up completing the job in 6 days, which I appreciated. All in all, I highly recommend Hicks Fencing.

TOWN SQUARE FLOORS. - LAWSUIT We contracted with Town Square…read moreFloors in Georgetown, Texas to install tile on our patio and front porch. About 2 years later we discovered dozens of loose and some broken tiles. Mr Bizzell (owner) came out this one and only time and tried to convince us that the ice storm was the cause. Being naive we originally accepted this, later discovering that this was not true. Over the next couple of years the problem got much worse. Tiles on the steps leading to the front door and back door came loose and broke. A painter stepped on another edge tile and it broke and caused him to take a painful fall. During this time my wife underwent several serious surgeries each requiring a wheelchair, walker or cane. It was far too risky for her to use either the front or back door as she would have had to walk across all the loose and broken tiles, then step off where the tiles were completely loose and broken. We live in Sun City, and her senior friends were apprehensive about coming over to visit and assist her during rehab. As the tile and health issues continued to deteriorate we both called Mr Bizzell numerous times seeking help. He refused every time. Our last call was from my wife while she was using a walker, and Mr Bizzell refused to even talk to her. We then gave him written notice of the hazard and he still failed to respond. Reluctantly we went to Small Claims Court. Mr Bizzell employed a Legal Firm dealing in Construction Law. Despite the huge disparity in legal expertise facts are facts. The Judge ruled against Town Square Floors and awarded me 100% of the repairs and 100% of my court costs. As of this Review, Town Square Floors has ignored our request to honor the judges decision, and continue to blow us off as they have from the very beginning. It makes us wonder how a company that is so clearly responsible (and confirmed by the Judge) for the defect has no problem, just walking away and leaving the customer holding the bag. Maybe even worse is how Town Square Floors appears to have no remorse for their treatment of a 75 year old severely handicapped woman. What are the priorities, ethics and moral values of those operating Town Square Floors?
