As a local historian and Irish republican, Kieran has written two books on the subject of the Irish War of Independance in Cobh and East Cork, respectfully published in 1992 and 2008. After 25 years as a public representative, Kieran decided to develop this historic walking tour after retiring from politics. He had identified 16 sites out of a possible hundred to make up the tour. Kieran also chose a route around the perimetre of town for the tour, which also gives the visitor the added benefit of viewing other scenic sites along the way, including Cobh's majestic cathedral, aswell as learning other local histories, including the tragic maritime stories of the Titanic & Lusitania and their relationship to the town, aswell as the history of the American naval presence in the town during WW1 etc.
