Another menu note. Reality check.

I've been here a few times- finally taking the time to write a review. I was spending time in Lowell at Tsongas to watch the new Boston PWHL women's hockey team this season (highly recommend) and I was looking for some pre-game food. Cobblestones is just down the street. I've had brunch and dinner- both fantastic. Love the pretzel. I've sat at the bar each time. Very busy but friendly service and great food. Fun place to meet other fans- friendly crowd. Love that their menu encourages diners to realize that dining has changed and that it might require a bit more patience these days- and that service issues can be handled on site or with the manager via email - give them an opportunity to correct before leaving a negative review. I loved the honesty when I saw that on the menu.

We went to an amazing Sopranos wine dinner on Thursday evening. I can't say enough about how delicious every course was from the appetizer to the desert. The wine pairing was so good and it was fun learning about each new wine. Best of all was the hard working staff. Everything was so organized and timely. They were all so sweet and you could just see how they loved what they do. Kudos to Scott and Kathy for having such a great business with great people!!!!!!

We were welcomed at the door, attended to promptly, and checked on by several members of the staff. The experience was so delightful and unexpected nowadays that we can't wait to go back. The menu is not huge, but it has enough for you to be satisfied. Beverages include beer and soft drinks, a small selection of wines, many of which are Portuguese, and sangria, red and white. Note that the prices of the wines and the sangria are not on the menu. We ordered the red sangria, which comes by the glass, and if I recall is approximately $9.45/glass. It's delicious and quite strong. Our appetizer was the cod cakes, which could just as easily be described as "cod cake tots" due to their size, but they're also priced "tot size" at $1.75 each. The Portuguese style meals are typically chicken, beef, or various types of seafood, generally served with a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers, on your choice of pasta or rice. Potatoes will also come with some meals. Our dinners came out VERY quickly, just about the time we were finished with the codfish tots. Dinner plus the appetizer and sangria came to about $45 each adding tax and tip, a reasonable amount for the quality of the food and atmosphere.

Hidden Gem and Unassuming is exactly how I'd describe El Criollo Restaurant in Dracut. Last night…read morewas date night with my two girlfriends and we met up with some of our foodie friends for another food adventure--this time, it took us to the Caribbean. Criollo is located in a small strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but as soon as you open the doors you know you're in for a treat. The decor is polished and cozy with a nice bar area; the kitchen is semi-open so you can see the flames as your food is firing. They have fantastic Caribbean and Puerto Rican fare with beautiful, thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Everything was fantastic from start to finish. Here were some of the highlights: -Chicharron: crispy pork belly bites, need I say more -Alcapurria jueyes (Fried crab fritters): golden, crispy fritter with a crunchy exterior and soft, savory inside with flavorful crab filling. The fresh bites from the onion slaw were a nice touch with these. -Chicken empanadas: dip these in the pink sauce with a touch of their spicy sauce and you're in heaven. Slightly crisp and flaky exterior with a tender, chewy bite, perfect for holding the delicious filling. -Mofongo with shrimp and garlic sauce: if you've never tried garlic sauce on Mofongo, I highly suggest it. It's creamy and garlicky in all the right ways. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the Mofongo brought me right back to my trip to Puerto Rico where I first fell in love with it. -Churros: truly the best ones I ever had. It was a last minute add on because "why not!" and the best decision! We made reservations for 6:30pm and when we arrived it wasn't overly busy, but by the time we left every table was filled. And that's no surprise based on our experience.

This restaurant is quite strange upon walking it it is like your average chain bakery restaurant…read morewith pies in the cases. The manager (possibly owner) was at the counter talking with an applicant. There was another girl trying to get tables set up for two other people that were waiting. Nobody acknowledges us for about 5 minutes. After the manager dealt with the applicant she took a phone call and walked away. Eventually she came back and sat us. When you walk into the restaurant you are in silk flower land. Over the arches hanging from the ceiling. It seems as though you are maybe entering a wedding event center. In between dining areas there are tiny disco balls hanging. Like I said strange. The waitress was really nice she answered all of my questions. Water and tea came in closer to a wine glass than a goblet. To start we ordered clam chowder soup. It was lacking flavor. It was thick and seemingly rich but it was missing something. The chicken Marsala was one of the 20 specials of the night. It was breaded chicken cutlets (2) over a bed of fettuccine and Marsala sauce. The chicken lacked and was probably frozen the sauce was tasty. I had chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and Cole slaw. The Cole slaw was ok. It was slightly soupy and not as much crunch as I like. The mashed potatoes seemed like box and the gravy seemed like jarred. Neither one had any substantial flavor. The cutlets were bland. Overall, the waitress was good. The rest left little to be desired. It seems that they are trying to be fancier than the diner they are.
