Long story short, when the owner took it upon himself to make an alteration that I did not request and lost the original pieces, he did not admit his mistake or try to rectify the situation. He just ridiculed me.
I really don't like to write reviews good or bad, but people considering using Cobblers & Cleaners in Owings Mills, MD need to hear about this experience. I have an all red baseball jersey with navy blue lettering and 6 red buttons (there is no white fabric on the jersey anywhere). I had lost the top button and asked the owner if he could replace it. He told me they did not have any red buttons so I asked about a clear button. He stated they had a clear button they could use. It wasn't my first choice, but it was at least an acceptable alternative for me. When I picked up my jersey, there were 6 WHITE buttons on the Jersey that did not match the red and navy jersey. I asked why he changed the other 5 which were perfectly fine and he said it was because he did not have any red buttons. I asked him why he didn't put a clear button on like we had discussed and he said he didn't have any clear buttons. I was frustrated because 1. He should have checked to make sure he had clear buttons before saying he did and 2. HE DID AN ALTERATION THAT I DID NOT ASK FOR OR APPROVE. They have my number but did not even attempt to call and say hey we can't do the alteration like we thought, what would you like us to do? When I pointed that out he told me it looked ok and muttered "All this for a button? Sheesh." That was pretty upsetting because I had been going there for several months and interacting with this man every time but once. I had never had an issue before and had never given him any grief of any kind, but now that I was trying to understand why he would take it upon himself to authorize a change that completely altered the look of the Jersey, he was giving me attitude! When I asked for the red buttons (5 total) that were removed, he reached in the the jacket pocket of another item I had altered and pulled out 3 red buttons. When I asked where the other 2 were he said they were missing too and that the original order was for 3 missing buttons. I pulled out my receipt and referenced it as well as the tag on the garment bag. Both showed the order was for 1 missing button. He then told me they must have just been missing too and kept saying "All this for a button? Sheesh." Even if I wanted to have the work undone, I couldn't because he had lost 2 of the original buttons. He never offered to fix the problem or undo the work by the way, instead he recommended that if I was not happy, I should go to Joann Fabrics and buy 6 red buttons and he would change it all back, BUT FOR AN UPCHARGE. This man was showing me who he really was...too proud to admit his mistakes and too poor at customer service to provide quality service. I will not be going back and do not recommend this business to anyone. read more
