The technician asked for me to extend my arm in the air while taking a blood pressure reading. This is not typical or correct. A patient's arm should never be held unsupported up in the air. It should be rested. I said to her " this will surely elevate my blood pressure". Then she stated, "your BP is elevated". you think? The doctor would not listen to my concerns and instead became defensive, sassy, and condescending. I felt dismissed and disrespected throughout the interaction, rather than heard and treated with professionalism and courtesy I would expect from a medical provider.

My sibling and I live out of state, and Mom's disease had progressed beyond what her nearby siblings could handle. Mom's Right at Home Wilmington team provided her with wonderful care that included bathing and dressing, light cooking and cleaning, and medications. They kept Mom engaged with conversation, walks, music, singing, "helping" with meals, even dancing. They treated her with respect and loved her like a long-time friend, even when she had bad days and nights. We communicated nearly daily, and they earned my trust. Jen even worked shifts a few times when caregivers had last-minute personal emergencies. She carefully matched caregivers to Mom's personality and changing needs. They worked in three eight-hour shifts 24/7. Jen always followed up with me after my monthly visits and if there was a pressing concern between. Mom's visitors were impressed by the caregivers. They commented that Mom was always neat, well-dressed and happy, and that her home environment was clean and calm. I rested easier knowing Mom was safe, well cared for, and never alone in the home she loved. Right at Home Wilmington was a godsend.

We feel so fortunate to have found someone who not only brings her competent skills and caring attitude, but provides joy and laughter. In addition to the necessary care, she brings poems or an inspiring story to share and she plays my aunts favorite game of Rummikub.
