A few weeks ago I was at this dentist for my daughter's cavity filling, and as I sat waiting, I was…read morethe unintentional audience of what I'll call an escalating situation. I was SO impressed with the staff's level headedness kindness, and professionalism that I sent an email later that day singing the praises of the the staff. I did this for a few reasons - 1) if you see something good, why not call it out? and 2) based on what I was seeing, I suspected a complaint (to a manager, a bad review, etc.) would be made, and I wanted to make sure that an unbiased/uninvolved person was speaking up for the staff who I thought had gone above and beyond. So I sent the email, and they sent back a kind thank you, and that was the end of the story. . .until a recent Yelp review came in. As I see it, the point is not debating what actually happened that day, the points is that the staff at Silicon Valley Pediatric are first rate. So I'll share here the email that I originally sent: ~~ Hello! I was in this morning for my daughter's fillings (about 10:20am-11am), and I just wanted to shoot a quick email to sing the praises of Monica P. She didn't attend to my daughter, but I was an accidental fly on the wall as she interacted with her own patient and patient's mother. I was so impressed with Monica. In a situation where someone else may have lost their temper or expressed frustration, she was endlessly patient, calm, and professional. She had a listening ear for the patient's mother, problem-solved and offered viable solutions, and also protected the patient's experience. She explained things calmly and clearly, didn't express frustration when she was accused of causing the patient anxiety, and sought endlessly to find a solution that worked for everyone. I'm sorry to have overheard - I didn't try to and I'm a little ashamed to admit how much I did hear. But I still didn't want this moment to pass unmarked, because Monica's patience, kindness, and professionalism was remarkable. That's it. Sorry to ease drop! But big kudos to Monica P. ~~ And since I'm already leaving a review, here are a few things I love about this dentist office: - They will schedule all 4 of my kids for the same time (or back to back appointments). - My kids love the toy wall at the end. - The staff are kind. - When approaching cavities, they're not drill-happy. My daughter had a larger one and a tiny one, and they were comfortable NOT drilling out the small one and seeing if it stopped worsening with improved dental hygiene. - They answer all my kids' (many!) questions about teeth, brushing, gums, etc. - I can schedule, cancel, or reschedule my appointments by text. Overall, big fan! Would recommend. :-)

I tried to avoid writing this review for the longest time, but every time I see my baby's chipped…read moretooth and his unclean teeth, I am reminded of this experience and how upset and helpless I felt watching him be treated this way. We brought our baby in earlier than his regular six-month visit because one of his tooth had chipped and he was in pain and his teeth needed cleaning urgently. We made this urgent appointment specifically because we were concerned about his tooth and wanted him examined and his teeth cleaned. Unfortunately, despite making the effort to bring him in, no meaningful effort was made to clean his teeth at all. From the beginning, there was very little effort to interact with or reassure my child. After the dentist examined him, I asked Ms. Monica to clean his teeth. She sighed and said, "Next time." When I asked why, she rolled her eyes and sighed again rather than explaining the situation calmly. My baby was already crying and distressed, so I asked if she could turn on the iPad attached to the dental chair to help distract him. I was told that they could not do that because it would disturb other patients. Ms. Monica then went to the reception area to ask the manager. After coming back, she eventually turned it on--but by that point, my baby was already extremely panicked. What was particularly upsetting was that, even after all of this, there was still no real effort to clean his teeth. The very reason we had made this earlier appointment was to have his teeth taken care of, yet we left with his teeth still unclean. I found it incredibly frustrating that we went through all of this while my child was in pain and distressed, only for the service we had specifically brought him in for not to be performed. Throughout the interaction, there were repeated sighs, eye-rolling, smirking, and laughter while my child was crying and in pain. I cannot speak to what her intentions were, but the behavior came across as extremely dismissive and made an already difficult situation significantly worse. There was no meaningful attempt to calm him, reassure him, or make him feel comfortable. Instead, I felt like my concerns as a parent were being treated as an inconvenience. Eventually, I went to the front office myself and asked if someone else could assist us or if we could arrange another appointment with a different hygienist. I was not heard, and my request was denied. As a parent, it is incredibly difficult to watch your child become more frightened and distressed in a place where you expect them to be cared for. I understand that treating young children can be challenging, and I do not expect every child to cooperate perfectly during a dental visit. But patience, compassion, and a genuine effort to provide the care for which the appointment was made should be basic expectations. We made an urgent appointment because our baby was in pain and had a chipped tooth and needed dental cleaning. We trusted the office to take care of him. Instead, we left with a distressed child and teeth that had not been cleaned despite the purpose of the visit. I sincerely hope the management team takes this experience seriously and reviews both how this interaction was handled and how concerns from parents are addressed when a child becomes distressed. Zero stars for Ms. Monica. I would not want my child to be treated by her again.

We are very thankful for the immediate corrective action , changing review from 1 star to 4 star. I request management to please train office staff to adapt to different patient sensibilities and be more customer friendly - rather than starting off with a initial NO and refusing our request to speak to the doctor. The office staff said it was office policy not to allow parent in and that we signed our contract with it - which is understood , but if they could have let us talk to the Dr initially itself it would have been a more plesant experience. We have never gone to this location and only Saratoga, but the bills come from here…read more I took my kids to the Saratoga location as they were in network and every time we went, the staff said we only have to pay the copay. Then this May I started receiving a bill online. The "bill" never provided an explanation as to what exactly they were for. I asked for an itemized bill, in which they could not produce for months. It wasn't until August that someone called me back to tell me verbally what the charges were (x rays that I didn't know my child took), but still nothing on paper and I received a notification every month about my outstanding mysterious balance. In early Nov, they finally produced an itemized bill that I have attached. I'm still not sure why under 3 years old oral evaluation isn't covered by my insurance, but that's what I was told. I paid the statement balance and today, 12/5, I receive yet another notice that I owe $7. There was no explanation, but comparing the two statements, which I have included here, it seems they randomly changed some charges and even added a charge. This is fraud because the last six months they have sent me a different bill this whole time and now all of a sudden after I paid they decided to change the charges with no explanation? It is also harassment to continue to email someone without providing any explanation for the charges. It's their responsibility to make sure the charges are correct and it seems they're just arbitrary at this point. Stay away from this incompetent business.
