I had the pleasure of working with Scott Norris for a wedding for Sarah & Kevin at the beginning of this month. As a wedding coordinator, I have the pleasure of working with many vendors of all backgrounds and skill levels; Scott however, takes the cake. He was extremely professional and on top of his setup and preparation for the night. He was also good enough at his craft to know exactly what song to play to fit the mood of the party. I've seen countless weddings die out as a result of subpar music mixing or a failure of the DJ to read the room properly, but Scott had everyone up and dancing till the hard stop time set by the venue. For our wedding, we had a harpist for the ceremony & cocktail hour and DJ Scott Norris for the reception. We expected a harder time picking the right DJ but it went very smooth thanx to our trusty vendor recommendation list from The Athenaeum! DJ Scott came VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by The Athenaeum. Since you have to have a really good rapport with your DJ since he will be the one controlling every min of your reception, we interviewed several. At the end, we decided on DJ Scott since he is very punctual and organized. We needed someone who can handle anything and everything since we opted to not have a wedding coordinator. He was so very organized all through the wedding planning process that we couldn't keep up! haha. He kept us on the track by nicely but firmly reminding us of the deadlines. On the wedding day, he was on time, and knew exactly what had to be done. Oh, if you decide to go with DJ Scott, definitely do the "Love Story." You and your fiancée will write your own version of how you met, when you realized that he or she is the one, etc etc etc. Then DJ Scott will compress the two stories into one in a very interesting, entertaining way. It certainly was the most fun part of our reception and our guests loved it. * Service = You can't expect more than what DJ Scott offers * Price = reasonable. We paid $1,195 for 4 hours. I just got married this past weekend in Pasadena, CA. Scott was our DJ/MC and we could not have asked for anything more. There are so many things to worry about when you are planning your big day, why worry about one more? Scott will take care of everything and it will be just the way you want it. Scott not only has great ideas, but if you allow him, he'll set up your entire music list with just a few suggestions. For however long you hire him for, he'll have his finger on the pulse of your party. He knows when to pick it up and slow it down. He keeps you to the timeline, just to make sure that you don't "accidentally" skip something on your big day. Scott has been doing this for years and seems to have mastered the high-end wedding venue/party. At the end of my night, there was absolutely no question about his ability. His prices are very reasonable and he is easily accessible. My suggestion, worry about everything else. LOVE LOVE LOVE Scott!! He is the best DJ around!!! My husband and I first met Scott at another wedding back in 2004. We were dating at the time, but Branden told me that if we ever got married, he would hire this DJ - Which we did, we got married in June of 2011. We started planning our wedding in June of 2010 and we tracked him down! Luckily he was still available on our date. (if he wasn't available, Branden told me we would have to change it to a day that he was). After meeting with Scott, we drove home to discuss our options and the possibility of meeting with other DJ's. Branden put his foot down and cut the check to book him that same day. Although I thought he was out of our budget (we are a young couple and don't have a lot of money) he was worth every penny. He added uplighting to our event which made the place look incredible. Scott was the DJ/MC for my daughters wedding 7/28/13. He did the music for the ceremony, the cocktail hour and the reception. Everything was flawless. Scott takes great pride in his work, making sure he understands exactly what the bride and groom are looking for. He kept the party going, kept people out on the dance floor, tailored the music to the crowd, etc. He was on time and dressed professionally. I cannot recommend Scott enough! I got to "review" his work as he was the DJ at my best friend's wedding in 2007 (see Doris G's review). I remember being at her wedding and thinking, "when I get married I am SO hiring this DJ!" The best thing he does is what he calls the "Love Story" - he has the bride and groom write down answers to questions about how they met and fell in love without showing each other and then combines them into one romantic story which you get to hear at your reception for the first time with all your family and friends. It's such a great way to let everyone at your wedding get a glimpse into how you met and fell in love. I thought that was a such a personal touch that goes above and beyond all other weddings I had been to. So fast forward to 2013 when it was my turn to get married and I told my fiance, I got the DJ, that one's in the bag. We only had to meet with him in person once which was great for me since I was working full time while planning my wedding. Although we did have several 1+ hour long phone conversations afterwards to go over song selections, the agenda for the reception and the overall feel of how I wanted my reception to go. I couldn't have been more pleased! Not only did he deliver an amazing Love Story (see excerpt of mine below), he kept my guests happy and dancing the whole night (and did not play anything on the do not play list, there's no bullying this guy if you tell him to stay firm on your list). Definitely would not hesitate to hire him again! Excerpt from my love story: "Mike says 'For our first date. We agreed to meet at The Rack, my favorite bar, which was located directly across the street from my apartment. I was so nervous that I spent the entire day cleaning, which was a rarity for me. Since we were meeting so late in the evening, I got to the bar about an hour early in order to have a drink alone, collect my thoughts and hopefully relax a bit before Carly arrived. Mike says 'Just as I was starting to calm down and breathe like a normal human being, she walked into the bar. I was sitting in the back so I saw her stride the entire length of the bar looking for me. From the moment I saw her I knew...she was WAY out of my league. I was actually disappointed a bit. She was so beautiful and she looked so sophisticated that my immediate reaction was that I didn't stand a chance and this was going to be a very short evening. Carly says 'I walked down the entire length of the bar and back but still didn't see Mike. When I turned back around to find him, there he was, wearing a pink button-up shirt, grey vest and an awesome hat. I was like, this guy has some style! Mike says 'We ordered drinks and took them back to the table where I had been sitting. We started making small talk, just basic get to know you stuff and I was a nervous wreck. For the first 20 minutes I was second guessing every sentence that came out of my mouth, until it happened. The moment that will forever live etched in my mind like a stone sculpture. I made her laugh for the very first time and she reached over and touched my arm. I was immediately relaxed and from that moment on I have felt more comfortable around Carly than anyone I know. Carly says 'the bar closed at midnight, but we didn't want our night to end since we had only just met 2 hours earlier, so we walked to the nearest 7-Elevan to get our own beer (she writes - we're classy!). We stayed up and talked that night until almost 4am!" read more

Ever since my best friends Bat Mitzvah I've been terrified and doubtful of DJ's. So for my wedding, I wanted LIVE MUSIC! Later I learned that live music would have been a terrible idea because there are breaks in the music and there is hardly any variety. So I decided to search for a DJ. Luckily our wedding venue (the Athenaeum) had a list of recommended vendors. This meant that the vendors have a good working relationship with the wedding venue, a definite plus! We read some reviews of Coastline music and decided to meet the main DJ, Scott Norris. Not to be confused with Chuck Norris, who is also awesome. We met Scott at his home/office in Los Angeles. His office was rather small, yet very orderly. After the Bat Mitzvah I naturally assumed all DJ's were embarrassing and weird. Scott proved me wrong. He was clean cut and totally NOT weird. After listening to him speak for less than five minutes I could tell he loves his job, he is organized, and I wanted him to be our DJ. I didn't want to look at any other DJ's because it'd be a total waste of time. Scott asked for quite a bit of information to be provided before the wedding, which is a good thing. He used all of that information to help run "the show". A wedding is basically a huge, orchestrated, well rehearsed production. Scott was THE front and center director, while our amazing wedding coordinator Samantha was the director behind the scenes. During the wedding planning stages I could call him with any questions regarding music selection and music timing and he would answer me honestly. I always felt like he had time for me when I called. A few points: he has a "do not play" list, which is basically a list of songs you NEVER want to have played (i.e. Justin Bieber songs) and he really will not play them, even if someone else like a wedding guest asks him to! He also has a "please do play" list, which is a list of songs or musicians you do like. He will play those songs, learn what type of music you like, then play songs that he knows you will like. Kind of like Pandora radio. To top it off, at the wedding he actually observes the crowd! If the crowd is really liking a certain artist or style of music, he will play more of that, just to get the crowd going even more. On the other hand if he notices that the crowd is not responding well to certain music, he will not play that type of music anymore. See? Just like pandora only way better! Scott's pricing is VERY reasonable as well. If possible, I would recommend Scott himself. I am sure his worker bees are great as well, but Scott just went above and beyond my expectations of a DJ. Oh! he also dresses according to what you request. So if you ask him to come in a formal tuxedo, he will show up in a formal tuxedo, he will NOT show up with clown shoes and a hundred glow sticks hanging from his suit! I am an extremely picky person when it comes to food, goods, and services and I recommend Scott above all other DJ's! read more

Scott was the DJ for my wedding back in October 2007 at Duke's in Malibu. He was very professional with the whole process and did a great job running the wedding reception. He was on time, dressed well, played great music, had my entire family out there dancing on the the dance floor, and followed all of the guidelines we set up before the wedding. We had so many compliments about our DJ. I would 100% recommend him. There are a few things that I vividly remember from that day over 5 years ago: The wedding story was a great touch! Had friends and family in tears (in a good way!). I forgot my garter on the day of my wedding and he saved the day - as he brought one just in case (makes me wonder what else he keeps in the "just in case" box). We didn't have to skip the garter toss - it worked out great! He was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding day. It was really important to us to find "the right" DJ as basically the DJ controls the pulse of the reception. Scott was very patient to answer any and all questions we had and even was flexible with a last minute addition of a personalized music video that we wanted to walk into for our grand entrance. We also had a choreographed first dance & Scott took care of the song so it was a perfect fit to our routine! Scott Norris of Coastline Music was the DJ for our wedding last month at the Marina del Rey Marriott. (It was the top floor ballroom with the adjacent patio.) Scott is fantastic. I can't say enough good things about how great he made our wedding reception. Of all the vendors we worked with, Scott cared the most about our event. He is organized, thorough, enthusiastic and talented. I'm a bit of a worrywart and Scott completely put my mind at ease. He genuinely cared, and had everything completely handled. He was instrumental in creating the timeline for our event (gently guiding us, and offering suggestions to make sure we got exactly what we wanted). You can tell how experienced he is after talking to him for 5 minutes. Our dance floor was packed the whole time and all our guests commented on how great the DJ was and how much they enjoyed the music. Everyone I saw the next morning had sore feet -- success! There was one moment where it was starting to get late and people began to come over to say their goodbyes and my heart sank -- I wasn't ready for the night to be over, and I certainly didn't want anyone under the age of 65 going home early. But then something magical happened and the next thing I know, we're all on the dance floor singing to our favorite songs at the top of our lungs. Everyone partied to the end. All thanks to Scott. I didn't hear one song all night that I didn't like. Scott was also very experienced with our venue and was able to easily set up outside for the cocktail hour and also inside for the reception without any lag time or disruptions or problems of any kind. Finding a DJ for our wedding was difficult. How do you really know? You can't really test them out like you can at a wedding cake tasting! Our wedding venue had Scott as one of their preferred vendors. I met with him and he seemed perfect. I had a good feeling about him. Scott just did my son's wedding 2 days ago. I am surprised he doesn't have more reviews, he only works on referrals. I actually found him on Yelp. Thanks for the hook-up. He's amazing. His goal is the same as our goal- to have fun. And we did just that. He takes your in-put, puts a playlist together and doesn't let himself get bogged down by drunken wedding guests' requests. The few that he did get at our party, he cleared with the bride and groom before deviating from the plan. (Most of them weren't honored). He is a consummate professional who keeps control of things. Here is the short version of my review: I'm so glad we chose Scott as our DJ. Our wedding was a non stop dance party and many of my guests told me it was the best wedding they've ever been to, that the DJ was fantastic and the playlist was amazing. Scroll down for specific details! Scott is an amazing DJ. At our first interview, we could tell that Scott was going to be great. He asks alot of questions about h0w you want the night to go, what kind of music you want played, and what kind of vibe you want for your wedding night. He has lists of songs that you can YAY or NAY and encourages you to send a playlist of your favorite songs and a do not play list. He is very organized and has planning sheets for you to fill out with specific details for the ceremony, reception, etc. And this was all discovered at the first meeting! The week of and the day of the wedding Scott was incredible. For our grand entrance, he made sure every bridal party member was in their proper place at the right time, and throughout the night kept things on schedule from first dances to toasts to cake cutting. He also checked in with us periodically as we decided to do a few spontaneous things like a grandaughter/grandfather dance, but he was very flexible and willing to help. During the father of the bride speech, my dad mentioned Friends the TV show multiple times and when the speech was over, Scott played the friends theme song! It was an awesome touch. Many of my guests told me it was the best wedding they had ever been to, the playlist was awesome and that the DJ was amazing. If you want a DJ who will cater to your needs, Scott is it! read more

I got married at The 1909 last month. I didn't think I needed a DJ, really didn't want one actually! I hate the typical wedding music that everyone uses, I wanted mine to be special and OURS and personalized, and I've been a guest at weddings where the DJ was super corny/annoying/whatever. But my mother-in-law convinced us to meet with Scott, and THANK GOD because he made our wedding what it was. I am really picky about music and wanted a certain "vibe", and so I sent Scott a ton of very specific playlists broken down by pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner and he worked them into the wedding day seamlessly, supplementing his own music/requests wherever it felt right. He had everyone crying during my walk down the aisle, and the dance party portion was perfect in every way. Literally everyone, all ages, did not leave the dance floor all night. Other reviews talk about how he reads the crowd and they nailed it because he totally did. Do not put your wedding day in the hands of an ipod, Scott is worth the investment (and a reasonable one, at that) if you want your wedding to truly be memorable. I had a great coordinator but he still checked in with me, ran my bouquet over to my dinner table, made sure I was enjoying myself, etc. He even went out to the venue on his own to check on what equipment they had and the set up and all that almost immediately after we hired him. During the day he was the perfect MC, like you didn't notice he was there because he wasn't trying to be funny or upstage anyone and ~host~, he just kept things moving along. He also offered my tons of advice on the timeline, how to keep people dancing, etc etc leading up to the day, because I had very little experience with what goes into a wedding (as I'm sure most brides do leading up to it). If I had to plan my wedding again, I would 110% hire Scott. I was beyond pleased with his service. I first heard Scott DJ at a friends wedding and remember dancing the whole night because he was playing the best music. So when I got engaged, I knew I had to have Scott. He was in constant communication with us regarding deadlines, playlists, meetings, etc. He has a fabulous personality that will get along with anyone. Scott at Coastline Music truly exceeded our expectations and was an incredible MC/DJ at our Santa Monica wedding reception. We were referred to Scott by the coordinator at our wedding reception venue, who has worked with him on numerous occasions. I have to admit when I first spoke with Scott, I had some reservations about his gift of gab, as I did not want to have an MC who spoke throughout the reception and certainly did not want to have a disruptive experience. But to our delight, he was true to his words when he said in one of our pre-meetings, "I speak a lot now but I will not per your request on the day-of." And, I can confirm that he was brilliant on the day-of and is excellent at his craft of MC/DJ. Due to his extensive experience MC/DJ-ing many weddings and through our prep-meetings, he knew exactly how to keep the reception going smoothly. He provided the perfect guidance when needed -- i.e. toasts, cake-cutting, etc. -- and he delivered on his promise of not being a showman. Further, he is an excellent DJ! As part of his preparations, he had us fill out song lists and while these were his guideposts, he clearly had a great handle on the audience and how to present the best mix of songs to have everyone dancing throughout the evening. It was an incredibly joyful day in our lives and we appreciated how this was magnified with the celebratory music and dancing. Scott from Coastline Music DJ'd my wedding in August. He was absolutely amazing at keeping the flow of the party going and was the perfect MC. He kept the party going and was really able to read the room well. Our friends and family just wanted to dance. I also chose to do lighting at the last week leading up to the wedding and was really glad my mom and I decided to add this. It was as Scott told us it would be; you wouldn't notice it if it wasn't there but you notice when it is there. It really gave the room and the dance floor a good feeling. Both our wedding venue and coordinator recommended Coastline Music as our DJ and reception MC. We were admittedly awful at time management and put our DJ decision to about a month before our wedding day. Scott, who is both the owner and the primary DJ of Coastline, was so professional, he kept calm and told us he was actually available that day and wanted to discuss with us our expectations, and also gauge our personalities to see if we were a good fit. After talking with him over the phone and then in person, we saw how important chemistry and trust were when hiring a DJ, and how the wrong DJ could completely declass or derail an event. We appreciated that Scott has been a DJ for decades, as a living and not as a hobby or a side gig. This mattered because he was instantly reachable, and we also knew that on our wedding day, we would be getting Scott himself and that everything we discussed would be personally carried out by him. He showed us endless stacks of recommendations and glowing reviews from other couples who had hired him for their weddings. It was reassuring but even without all of that, we were already impressed by his level of knowledge, experience and professionalism. We were assured that he was going to give us a classy presence and represent us well. We had been to other weddings where the DJ did not listen to the couple or lacked awareness (e.g. turned a wedding raunchy in the presence of children and older relatives). Scott was the opposite of that and said, if we wanted a do not play list, or had specific instructions for the evening's events or wanted to stick to specific song genres, then we could do that; He would not misrepresent us. We ultimately gave him a rough sketch of the music we liked and a few special requests, but trusted him to put together the playlist he thought was best. Our wedding day came and he did an amazing job engaging our guests, catching us up on a schedule that was running behind due to uncontrollable circumstances, staying organized with the toasts, and even staying alert to playing a particular song that cued select guests that the USC Trojan Marching Band had arrived, and it was time for said guests to nonchalantly join the band for a surprise entrance and performance (we're band alumni and with Scott's help had planned to join the gig and smoothly include other alumni guests, too). The seemingly flawless flow of events was a testament to Scott's experience, and we appreciated how well he stayed coordinated with our wedding coordinator who was running the overall show. Scott was so tuned into what our guests wanted that we were shocked at how full the dance floor stayed, occupied even by guests who were normally wallflowers. We are still receiving praise for our DJ/MC hire from guests of all ages, from fresh out of college to past retirement. We really lucked out on Scott being available so close to our wedding date, because wow! No one else would have come close, and we are so grateful to Coastline Music being a major contributor to our perfect and beautiful wedding day. read more
