The group was small and generally educated and very interested in learning about Ancient Egypt. Far Horizons specializes in tours with an academic as a leader/teacher. Many of us had chosen this trip because of familiarity with Bob Brier. The tour company performed excellently. We had a home office guide with us as well as local Egyptian company taking care of the arrangements. The trip flowed without a hitch. Bob and Pat were not just leaders they were warm and friendly hosts. The Group bonded rapidly and there were no people problems, the hotels and food were all excellent. The insights and experiences going with an experienced Egyptologist were outstanding. We have done other trips with another similar company and they were comparable. We are very interested in learning on our trips and find the 'Far Horizons' genre of company very satisfying. As tour company they are first rate, as educational experience providers we found the trip a favorite. The views were beautiful, and everything felt well-paced from start to finish. The whole experience lasted about 2.5 hours and included 7 zip lines, which was such a fun adventure. There was also a sign that there is additional parking behind the museum. After checking in there was a craft/art activity with stickers and tempera paint sticks. Low mess :). Adjacent was a play area with colored scarves, a pretend campfire, felt board for the children to explore, and books. Before entering the museum area Anna gave an introductory talk describing what to expect. She made it interactive which was very nice. They also did a song to get their wiggles out. She then guided the group through the museum to the carpeted area with cushions for the kiddos. Ana talked about and asked questions about the art on the walls. She read Under the Same Sky to the children and made this an interactive experience also. It was just the right length of time, thirty minutes. This was just right for our 18 month old grandson.

The kids participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including working together to pull a fishing net and small fish out of the water. The kids got to see and touch shrimp, fish, spider crabs, mussels, clams, sea sponge and more! We also learned about the leopard shark and got to pet one. The kids worked collaboratively to collect samples from the bay and even got to look at plankton under a microscope. The roast was hosted at his lovely home tucked away on a wooded hillside in Fairfax (Amazing view I must say). Dan started off with some basic worldly knowledge about coffee and then got into different roasting techniques, sharing a couple of his passionate stories about coffee along the way (very enthusiastic and knowledgeable). The part most special to me was actually roasting the coffee beans over the open flame. Putting the knowledge I just learned to the test was a very gratifying experience.
