The place and people are nice but.... They way over charge for everything. Every time I come It costs between $400 to $700 or more a visit. Example- they literally charge $100-150 for a phone call with the vet about test results. I have never heard of such a thing! They should be ashamed of themselves! read more

A vet tech reported me to Animal Services for making it clear that I did not consent to any procedures for my cat (who got out the house and showed up at neighbor's house, then said neighbor brought my cat here). Although I told them over and over that it was my cat, asked when I could get him back, and stated with proof of a bill, that my cat had been treated for a sore on his face, they refused for days to give him back, said that I would have to pay them before I could have him, and told me he'd have to be quarantined. When I talked to Animal Services, they completely understood that it was a FALSE report of neglect, and demanded that Coastal give me my cat back, which they finally did. Very upsetting. Especially b/c they had proof that my cat had been treated with antibiotics, and still reported me. Giving one star bc it wouldn't let me give zero. read more

Extremely expensive. I feel like all they cared about was getting us to spend as much money on tests, procedures and exams as possible. We cannot trust their diagnosis because we do not feel they genuinely care about our dogs. It's like taking your car to the shop for a simple oul change and they try to tell you all the things that need to be fixed. Been a couple of times, but never again. Save your money. read more

On more than one occasion Coastal was unable to see my pet and I for a follow up appointment after emergency situations because they had no appointments available. There is zero scheduling flexibility for clients, and it is very disappointing not to be able to rely on your vet when you need them most. They told us to go to an emergency vet 45 min away in Rehoboth that would charge $195 to walk in the door! What is the point of having an established vet if you can't access them during an emergency? Do not recommend. Find a practice that is accommodating and willing to care for you and your pet in a time of need. read more

We were referred to this clinic by a local vet who felt our dog's care might require a review by Dr. Staruch. She is very kind, very definitive and an excellent surgeon. Her staff were all respectful and thoughtful and understanding in caring for our 15 year old dog. The office is very new, spotless, and technology is cutting edge. My heart melts when I think about the selfless work that Dr. Mary Helen and her staff do for our pets every day. No day is the same and while the joy of meeting new animals is part of the deal, there are many days that are stressful and just plain heart wrenching. For those who feel the need to post negative reviews because you had a bit of a wait or because you have to pay for exceptional care, I encourage you to consider the alternatives or spend just one day in their shoes. Dr. MH gave our lab at least another year of life because she took the time to ask questions and research. She spent hours on the phone with us (9 and 10 p.m. at night) to ensure we were comfortable with the options. If you love animals I ask you to please say thank you to the staff at Coastal Veterinary and the other vets, volunteers, etc. who put their heart and soul into what they do. They deserve to be recognized not beat down. I could not do what they do every day and know for sure that our lives and the lives of many of our friends and neighbors are much happier because we know that someone cares. I am so dissapointed in this place. Things sure have changed and not for the best. On May 11, 2021 I took my sick cat of 18 years there to be checked out. I was asked to pick what I needed checked out and signed showing I was paying for it. I did not receive a copy of signature page. 3 hrs. later I get a call from Dr. Brown(?) who knows who it was I had to wait in my car the whole time. Ended up with a bill of 394.75 with no explaination of anything but they wanted another 197.00 to do more tests. Vet gave me thoughts of what it could be and recommendations for more money and tests. I've call 3 times for a response and haven't heard from them. Not once have they call to check on my cat. I recommend you don't take pet(s) there for anything. They need an audit not more money. read more

Tried this location because it was closer to home then our regular vet. Everytime my wife and I go there with our dog, it's all about money, money and more money. The doctor and her assistants are all about trying to sell various unnecessary products and very expensive medications. Then they try to make the pet owner feel like they do not care enough about their pet if they don't spend absorbent amounts of money. If we didn't care our about our pet, why would we bring him to the vet. Will never go back. read more

I cannot begin to say enough good things about Coastal Veterinary. Dr. Mary Helen and her amazing staff made a very difficult time so much easier when our small dog had sudden breathing problems. We ultimately had to put our dog down, and Dr. Mary Helen went above and beyond the call of duty to give our kids time to say goodbye to our beloved pet by making a special house call after hours. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Mary Helen and Coastal Veterinary. Yes, sometimes there's a wait, but like any good doctor they prioritize emergencies. I have been on both sides, and just tell myself when I'm waiting for routine care that I'm glad my dog isn't the one in need of immediate care. This week he woke up lame and in pain and they saw him immediately. Someone undoubtedly had to wait because of it, but he was in real distress from a split nail and it had to be removed. As for people who complain about the cost, it's not 1985 any more, and if you want highly trained professional staff in a clean modern facility, then yes, it costs more. Honestly, I've been to human doctor's offices in this area that I wish were as up to date as Coastal Veterinary. My Westie has had chronic allergies since we got him, and Dr. Mary Helen has been a godsend in finding exactly what regimen of diet and medication and grooming enables him to live a happy life. These issues are common in the breed, and I just wish we had met her decades earlier so she could have helped our previous dogs. You can't put a price on knowledge or compassion! I cannot say enough about Coastal Veterinary! The doctors and the staff are wonderful. Their knowledge and compassion supersede all others. Even under the darkest of circumstances my confidence in their care never wavered. I will never take my fur babies anywhere else. I keep reading reviews of vets in the area all complaining about price. I don't think people realize that there is little difference between human and animal medicine. The cost of testing and lab fees is expensive. That's not on the vet, the fees are priced by the lab. People complain that vets recommend too many costly test, but wake up people. Your pet cant talk. It takes more testing to get to the route of the problem. Have you ever seen a blood draw on a hyperactive scared dog or cat? It's not easy. For anyone to think that a doctor is going go through that stress if the test wasn't necessary is CRAZY! I would completely understand if the exam visit itself was double the cost of a human exam, just for the simple fact that the patient cant talk, may bite or scratch or poop on your floor! Maybe you're unaware, but there is such a thing as pet insurance. read more
