Took my truck for an oil change and the jack they use to open the hood (which I assume is for safety, totally understand) pushed my hood back further than it usually goes. As a result, I have a crack on the corner my windshield. Took it for an estimate immediately and was advised it has to be replaced - almost a $700 charge. Let me say too, I've gone here for a few years, and I love the guys who work in the shop. They're professional and friendly, and have never an issue previously. This time, I did mention the crack at the time of service, and the poor gentleman doing my oil change looked terrified I was going to make a scene. So I resolved to contact the corporate office. Called Thursday afternoon on my way home from the oil change, was sent to voicemail. Twice again on Friday, one to the office in Apex and the other to Charlotte. Both sent to voicemail. We went back to Shane and he took pictures and submitted a claim on our behalf. So just pending his boss's review.

I was told it might be the alignment, or the tire balancing; I had them do both. I was told my brakes were "worn" (whose aren't?!), but didn't have that done. I was also told the age of my tires might be leading to dry rot. (5 years) When I got out on the highway, the vibration was WORSE! I had to drive at a slower speed to a Subaru dealer in VA. They told me I had a bubble in one tire, & they were "feathering". I had them check the brakes, & they MEASURED the brakes pads at 3 mm, which indicated they needed replacing. Tires were on sale. So I replaced! My Master mechanic son-in-law, When he had taken a look at my tires & heard my story, said: "You need to find a new place to take your car." Wasted $175!

They seemed to do a good job meaning nothing was forgotten, broken, and I did not experience any…read moreleaks or collateral damage. It was also fast and they did put in the correct quantity of oil. Not sure what grade of oil or brand of oil filter they used. At about $120, it's very expensive. Clearly you are paying for convenience. As a former tribologist, mechanic and DIYer, I can do this job myself in 15 minutes for about $35-40 (using a group 3 / group 3 PAO blend "synthetic" like Mobile 1, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or similar), and an OEM filter which is my personal preference. I don't know what grade of "synthetic" they use. Many oils labeled "synthetic" are not group 4 / 5 based oils, ie PAOs or Esters - true synthetics. Most are made from group 3 base stocks - a highly refined, ultra clean petroleum. Having said that, as long as the API donut meets your engine's requirements, you are fine. I recommend changing the oil every 5,000 miles. Knock 20% off of that if your car is turbo charged or 4,000 miles. Obviously PAOs and Esters will give you better protection especially at the thermal extremes but come at a premium price. I'm positive these oil change shops do not use true synthetics because they are cost prohibitive and would eat their profit margin. Caveat emptor.

Returned to Valvoline to retrieve the cover and was advised that several had been thrown away as they cleaned out storage room several weeks ago. They made no offer to pay for replacement, which cost over $300.00 dollars.
