They completed the work and within one year our driveway collapsed. I had to invest an additional $22,000 to repair the collapsed portions of the driveway. Here we are 6 years later and we have weeds growing up inbetween all of the pavers. A total disaster. I confronted the son about this at the time and he refused to do the work stating that it was his dads job even though we had a signed contract. When I confronted the son, just weeks after the original installation, he said that his company isn't Fermin that that was his dads company and refused to honor the defective work. My mistake was not to insist on the younger son to do the work. Again, a total disaster.... good luck if you get him to do any work.

Being a first time homeowner is not easy. From landing the house and finding things to improve over…read moretime, my wife and I knew the backyard would be a very important space for our family, especially our younger kids. When we first moved in, the backyard was all cement, the grass was dead, it had mulch/tanbark everywhere, and the pavers were mismatched. While we had a temporary "fix" by removing the grass and installing turf, we knew we needed to go big. I went through countless hours of research, hesitation, and uncertainty for whatever reason, but I finally settled on a name that, after extensive research, felt like they would be the right fit for us. Enter Black Diamond! Stephanie Driscoll was our project manager and designer and Raul was the head of the crew that took on the job of totally revamping the entire backyard and the side yards. Stephanie was very easy to work with and loved the design that was initially proposed. Instead of trying to essentially price the job with higher quality materials or trying to add more where it wasn't needed, we were able to balance paver amount/variation for the pathways and borders so that it made sense both in design and budget. Needless to say, 4 months on, we are still very happy with how it turned out and how everything was done. We started the consultation/design process and contracting in December 2025 and broke ground in March 2026. Stephanie was patient in waiting for other projects to be completed since I also had to replace a roof, install new gutters, and repaint the whole house. By April 2026, the entire backyard looked as designed and blew my family away! Our friend and family complimented on how well everything was done and what a transformation it was. We actually enjoy the backyard a lot more now and so do our children. The pavers have held up very well thus far and most of all, it's safe for anyone to walk on. No sharp edges on the step-down that was installed, no tripping hazards, and no danger of water sitting and pooling in any one area. The rocks along the pathways complement the pavers and do well to keep costs low in the side yard as no one really hangs out on the sides anyway. Frances was my project manager and on the first visit I described my vision and let her know I wanted to do some of the work myself because I had a limited budget.  She was very accommodating about that and drew up plans based on what I wanted help with.  She actually did a few iterations as we talked through design and my changes after I saw the plans.  She helped with design and material suggestions but also drainage suggestions that helped me feel confident I wouldn't have problems down the line.  Black Diamond did all the hardscape of pavers and prepped and installed my lawn.  I did everything else in the pictures. I purchased all the plants, but Frances was helpful in giving me ideas about what grew best in my area which doesn't get a lot of sun.  They are a bit pricey but I was willing to pay more because they gave me the confidence that they would do the work correctly.  And Frances was amazing to work with! It came out beautiful!  Their workers were not very friendly and didn't speak much English but they knew their business and Frances visited often to oversee the work.   There were lots of little decisions to be made and Frances was patient with me as I took time to decide on some things.  They also put in piping so I could run more irrigation, if needed and electrical wiring.  They also ran pipe for my propane tank hose so it would be underground.  My only frustration is that they didn't put string through or something that would help pull the wiring or hose through more easily.  A simple thing that would have really helped.  Overall, I am very satisfied and would recommend them.  They are pricey and their contract is pretty one-sided, but because everything went well, that wasn't a problem. Apologies for the pictures in random order.  Just a side note--I also used Black Diamond for my rental in Southern California and the project manager did a great job there too.

He seems like…read morea nice guy, but my experience came down to two major problems: reliability and quality of work. Reliability: Oscar repeatedly scheduled days to work on my project and then either didn't show up, asked to reschedule the morning of, or never contacted me at all. He knew that I was rearranging my schedule around the days he committed to. The last situation was especially frustrating. He was scheduled to work on a Saturday, but at 9am that morning he texted me saying he wasn't going to make it and asked if he could come Sunday instead. I had plans in Modesto for my nephew's birthday on Sunday, so I had my entire family move the birthday celebration to Saturday so I could accommodate him. He knew I had changed my family plans specifically to make Sunday available for him. He then didn't show up Sunday either and never called or texted me. At that point, I was extremely frustrated. Quality: I hired Oscar to help with a flagstone patio. His job was to cut and lay the remaining flagstones with approximately 1-inch joints, and then level the stones. He knew the installation method I was using when he gave me the quote, and I was clear about the details of the project. I paid him for the portion of the work he had completed because, at the time, I believed he was going to return and finish the rest of the project as we had scheduled. After he stopped showing up and failed to communicate with me, I eventually realized I was going to have to finish and correct the work myself. Unfortunately, I was also unhappy with the quality of the work. During the leveling process, several flagstones were cracked. His worker also made many of the joints significantly wider than 1 inch and used stones that, in my opinion, clearly should have been flipped or not used. Oscar was supposed to return to continue the work, and we scheduled multiple additional days. He ultimately never came back. After it became clear that he wasn't returning, I had to re-cut approximately 10% of the flagstones he had placed and re-level approximately 50% of the stones I had paid him to level. Fixing the work myself took me three full days. I had gotten several quotes for the project and ultimately chose Oscar because his quote was the cheapest. In hindsight, that was a mistake. I ended up spending significantly more time and money fixing the work than I would have if I had hired one of the more expensive contractors in the first place. I don't have anything against Oscar personally, and he was always friendly when we did interact. But based on my experience, I would not recommend hiring him. The combination of missed appointments and having to redo a substantial amount of the work made the project far more frustrating and expensive than it needed to be.

His team of workers was hardworking, and efficient. He even came by at the end to check on the irrigation, and make a suggestion of where to move the irrigation timer for better flow in the garden. Of the three, Carlos was the ONLY one who kept his appointment and returned a bid quickly. After receiving his bid, we pondered the idea of a pool renovation instead of demo. Carlos had followed up with us and inquiring if we wanted to move forward with the demo. I had mentioned to Carlos we were now entertaining the idea of a renovation. He was understanding and asked us to contact him if we made a decision to go the demo route. This past week, Carlos followed up with us. Although we had decided days before to go with the pool renovation, I was very impressed with Carlos, his responsiveness, and his customer service. Although we can't speak to the actual demolition experience, I can say Carlos and his company deserves high regards for what has been previously mentioned.

His bid covered most thoroughly for material and labor and the price was very reasonable. on the day of the estimate, Carlos took his time to answer my questions, show me pictures and videos of the jobs he had done, which was helpful to me, being a visual person. I had to go back and forth with Carlos with questions and answer. He was prompt in responding and straight to the point when explaining things to me. He and his team did a great job in the sewer replacement. They came early on the days of the job and work diligently to complete the work. It was a pretty extensive job, digging two holes, one on the street, one on my property, then SDR 17 pipe was pulled from my property to the main. The Seaside city required the work to include paving the street with 20 ft by 10 ft asphalts to covered the hole on the street. That had took the whole day, but it was beautifully done. The material and amount of work required was actually more than the estimate, but Carlos stuck with the price of the bid. I really appreciate Carlos work ethic. I had worked with several contractors and they had all charged me additional cost on top of the bids. I would recommand Carlos for his professionalism, great communication and honesty.

I called Nick twice no answer. I call the office they don't know why no one showed but tell me a crew will come at 11:30. 1130 no one comes. Still can't get in touch with Nick, at 2:30 Charles calls and said they would be on site at 3:30. I got in touch with Nick finally and said don't send anyone until tomorrow. He said again he would be on site at 8am with a crew. Nick never shows, but a crew arrived at 8:45. My bid included driveway prep, crack filler and two coats of sealer if needed. The crew finish around 12:30 but did not use crack filler on the bottom 1/3 of the driveway and the did not use sealer on part of right hand side if the driveway. I called Nick and he agreed to get the crew back out the next day a 8am. Charles calls the next day and said they would come over at 11:30. I said no don't come, I canceled the appointment. I called Nick indicated what Charles said. I told Nick to send bill a bill. I also left two messages for a person named Victor to call me, the ad min who answered the phone said she would get Victor involved. Victor never called. Nick failed to show twice after he committed to coming at 8am and he failed to return 3 phone calls and 3 text . I cannot recommend using Coastal for driveway repair. They seem unprofessional and the quality of work done lacks attention to detail and follow through. RG
