Coastal Moving Services is a broker that specializes in under bidding by not quoting for the services needed and requested. They then broker/sell the service (your move) to a company that then charges even more than the increased second quote, because Coastal Moving Services doesn't include everything in the quote, all after it is too late to cancel services without loosing your deposit. After paying our initial deposit, I read reviews and saw that these guys engage in a scam of underestimating your costs to sell you the contract, which sets you up for conflict with the actual movers who show up thinking your move is smaller than it is. In too deep at this point, I came up with a plan to avoid the scam they pull. I deliberately over-reported our number of boxes by 20% when we went through the final inventory two days before the movers showed up. I also gave the representative on the phone exact measurements of everything that was not in a box. The rep did not include my measurements for most of our furniture in the contract they sold to Loadrans LLC (the movers they actually hired to move our stuff). So when the movers showed up, they told me that the cost would be 50% higher than our estimate. A difference of approximately $5,000. They lied to the movers. They lied to me. This placed me in conflict with our movers right from the start and delayed the start of our move by 2 hours. When I called Coastal to complain about this, the customer service representative was nonchalant and blamed me for the discrepancy. I negotiated with the movers to load only what the original estimate covered. It cost us approximately $3,000 to replace what we could not take with us. Our stuff was picked up on the 8th of July, 2024. As of writing this review on the 8th of August, 2024, our belongings have been misplaced. The movers hired by Coastal informed me today that they did not know that our belongings had not been delivered yet. Coastal also told me that I would need to have cashier's checks made out to the moving company for both pickup and delivery. The movers, however, refuse to take a cashier's check on delivery. Coastal Mover Boca Raton is dishonest and will be reported to the better business bureau. They didn't do anything other than talk on the phone with me twice, take my money and give me dishonest quotes for what the actual moving company would be doing. They quoted me what should be a reasonable price to move my items from WI to AZ. They claim they add on (over quote) to be sure. An additional 40 boxes is what we discussed, in addition to all the odd shaped items. They knew my boxes and totes would be of various sizes. The initial quote being $6000 and some change, from WI to AZ. That sounds about right. So I sign up and make my $3000 and some change down payment. They take %50 upfront. This is the payment I want refunded. Then 3 days before pick up, you again spend a long time on the phone, tell them everything you still have and they claim to "over estimate" by adding more, just to be certain the truck has space and the quote is accurate. Quote climbs an additional $3000, 3 days before moving day, 5 days before I am scheduled to leave the state for good. If they are honest business, they would know what the actual cost would be. And they would know how the movers are going to pack the truck. I could have found Unlimited Moving (the movers) on my own and cut out the dishonest middle man. If I had known. All they do is take your money and lie about the cost. Then, the movers arrive (I make another payment to them for their services) and as they pack the truck, they say it's going to be an additional $3000 and some change. My family and I scramble at the last minute and remove two patio (multiple pieces) furniture sets, a giant 15ft umbrella, a deck box, an exercise bike, 4 counter height stools, garage shelves, a beach cruise bicycle, etc. from the items being moved. Which was part of the quote the whole time. Even the delivery strategy was a lie. They claim to have movers and storage facilities all over the country, so my belongings will be in AZ waiting for me. Not the case. I have to wait for my items, they don't even leave the Chicago area until 4 days after I said I would like my things delivered. I make a third payment and I still ended up paying $11k (and some change) total when all is said and done, after removing all those items and more. Most dishonest business practices!!!! He came off super friendly--saying things like "I got you, girl" and acting like he was giving me deals or waiving charges. But it was all fake. Everything changed after the second estimate call. The original quote was low, and I was thrilled. I asked if I could call my partner to confirm, but Steven rushed me, saying my move was last minute. I ended up signing the contract under pressure. Three days before pickup, I got the final call--and they had added $2,000 to the price! Why? Because Steven supposedly didn't include my queen bed or my futon frame--even though I clearly said I had both during the original estimate. When I tried to cancel and get a refund, they told me the 72-hour cancellation window only applied to the first estimate, and that a driver had already been scheduled so it was too late. When my stuff was picked up, the actual company doing the move turned out to be Loadrans LLC, not Coastal Moving. The driver also made it sound like I'd get my delivery by June 1st. So my partner and stepson waited at the house--but nothing showed up. I called Loadrans LLC--no answer. I called Coastal Moving, and they told me June 1st was just a "suggested" delivery date, and legally they had up to 30 days to deliver. They also told me no driver had even been scheduled yet. During both estimate calls, I asked to send pictures of all my items to get an accurate quote--they refused. After pickup, I ended up paying another $3,000. They claimed they'd give me 24-72 hours' notice before delivery. Instead, they called 20 days later and gave me only six hours' notice. My partner had to leave work to meet them. I haven't unpacked everything yet, but I already saw that they stacked fragile boxes on the bottom with three heavy boxes on top. I'm terrified of what I'll find once I open everything. This was the worst moving experience I have ever had. Initially, my quote was $3800 for 654 cubic feet and approximately at 300 mile move. You would think for the price, that there would be stellar service. However, I was initially given a pickup window of 2-5pm on 5/22, and did not receive communication until 6pm that night stating that there was a delay and the pickup would be the next day, and that I would receive a call at 7pm that night confirming the pickup window. I did not receive a call, so I had to call 3 times the next morning to get a new pickup window, with very hostile dispatchers each time. The new pickup window was 12-3pm on the 23rd. I did not get further communication until I called at 4pm asking for an update. I stated that I would not be available that evening, as I had already waited through two days of their window. The dispatcher stated that I had to be available for the entirety of the two days and that I would have to just wait for the truck to show up. It finally arrived at 8pm and the crew did not finish until 11:30pm, when they stated they ran out of room on the truck and would not take my mattresses unless I paid additional money. As I was already uncomfortable with the crew staying that late at my house where I live alone, I was not going to go out to their truck to confirm that the space was full. There was no further communication about when the drop off would be without me calling to ask for an update a week after my first available drop off date. When the crew arrived to drop off the items they had a different contract that did included a different "long carry" distance, to which they wanted me to pay extra for this until I showed the original contract with the correct distance. Horrible,,started with$4200 ! Not even having furniture but 1 bed and 1 chair and 30 boxes. Some plants and1 bookcase,AZ to Kc,mo.They said i had to many items because only so much cubic ft. We ended up paying another $2000 and have to pay upon Arrival another $2000. So 6500 $$$$ Just hope i get my stuff and thinking about a lawyer....These people need to be STOPPED....All under the name Coastal Moving services.....who than give it to other companies,nobody ever picks up the ph and if they do its all lies, and nobody is responsible.....THIEVES,WILL TALK TO A LAWYER!! read more

Not surprised it's a 1-star. Both people I talked to, and one was a "manager", were extremely rude. My items were damaged in the move and now it's very difficult to get refund. Avoid it. read more

I am writing this with deep frustration and disappointment due to our recent experience. Initially, Eli with coastal was helpful, courteous, and transparent, until that was no longer the case. Unfortunately, after putting down our deposit, it became clear that the level of service and honesty we expected was not upheld. Had we taken the time to thoroughly review previous customer feedback, instead of feeling the pressure to get that "locked in low price just for us" we would've made a different decision. It is extremely frustrating to realize this too late. I regret not conducting more due diligence before engaging with this DESPICABLE company as the experience has been far from acceptable. Absolutely a company that I would not recommend to anyone moving. The process of moving for my girlfriend from state to state was made increasingly more difficult, frustrating, and expensive as time went along. The pickup was an overall headache & mess of fees. Each day spent waiting for all of her items to arrive only to have them be a day later than expected as well as late in the evening at 8 o o'clock. Notes taken along the way: No attention to details that were spoken with over the phone in important consultations conversations - see extra fees section Bunch of hustlers trying to make more money off people dealing with immense amounts of moving expenses - neglected to inform us about fees for stairs. - clearly states that there are no fees for elevators yet my girlfriend was told she owes $75 for having an elevator. Late for schedule delivery - an entire day late and continued to show up after 5pm and said they would be here from 12:00 (noon) - 3:00 Made the process of moving from South Florida to North New Jersey extremely more stressful than it already was - lied, scammed, extremely rude - Eric was horrible, absolutely no help at all. spoke highly about how if anything she can always call him but has yet to answer the phone and each time she texted him, he sent me a phone number to call. Takes advantage of young women - my girlfriend is a 22 year old Latina and once they realized that they started taking advantage of me and scamming her. it didn't even help that i was there. the second they saw her mother they started taking everything seriously. this company is nothing but bad business and shifty people brokering deals in an office. read more

If I could give a zero or a negative number I would. Let's start off with the fact that items came damaged, broken but most upsetting - MISSING!!!! As I began to unpack the boxes that the movers carelessly stacked, I realized - oh I don't have this, and oh I don't have that. The most upsetting item lost is a clutch bag that I had designed for my father's 100th birthday party. My father passed nine months later and that bag means even more now. My husbands $300 computer monitor is also one of the items missing. Expensive pots are also missing. I would estimate at least 4 boxes didn't make it to NC. But let's start off with Coastal Moving Services. I booked them in NJ not knowing they were a broker. When I gave our moving date of 2/24/25, I informed them that we would be driving to NC the next day. He asked when would we like our boxes and furniture delivered. I said 2/26/25. I WAS NEVER TOLD - I REPEAT - NEVER TOLD THAT 2/26/25 WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. The day the movers arrived I said so you will be delivering it on the 26th correct? the mover told me it could be up to 7 days!! I said what? I was never told that. He said he would call his dispatcher and right in front of me he made the call and she said no later than the 28th. Well, we were without our belongings including our mattress for 10 DAYS!!!! Had we known that with a long distance move over 500 miles - ours was 561 -it could take up to 12 days. When I called Coastal Moving a few days after the 28th, Ryan was beyond nasty, aggressive and obnoxious let alone unprofessional. I said the dispatcher said no later than the 28th - its well past that. He said did you read your email? I said why would I have to read the contract when I was told the 26th was feasible and then the dispatcher told the mover in my presence no later than the 28th? Granted I did not read the entire 10 page contract and this information is like on page 7 or 8 but if the person that booked the job - Andy - told me that the 26th is feasible, why would I read a ten page contract when I am packing a house? Ryan than had the audacity to say I have done a ton of moves and NO ONE READS THE CONTRACT!! So I said, if that's the case - then the first thing out of Andy's mouth should have been; ANY MOVE OVER 500 MILES MAY TAKE UP TO 12 DAYS!!!! If we had known this we would have packed our car differently and not be without any of our stuff for almost two weeks. That being said, the movers that picked up our stuff in NJ are NOT THE MOVERS WHO DROVE IT TO NC. OUR STUFF SAT IN A WAREHOUSE FOR OVER 10 DAYS, BOXES WERE LOST AND OTHERS WERE DAMAGED. A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE AND I AM STILL LIVID. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!! We chose Coastal Moving because they seemed knowledgeable; however, the salesman Eric failed to mention that they were a broker. After finding this out it was too late for the return deposit. I thought it should not be that bad, I was wrong.  On the day of the move, I found myself dealing with a completely different company--one that, unsurprisingly, charged us more. I anticipated the upcharge BUT the cubic feet was off by more than 40% of what was originally quoted. Leaving me with another 5 thousand dollars to pay. They then took apart everything, including the bed frame, bookshelves, legs on the chairs and other furniture. I assumed they would make a note to reassemble everything upon delivery. (WRONG) We were told that our belongings would arrive on a certain date, but they ended up arriving six days late, with yet ANOTHER company handling the final drop-off.  Upon arrival, three of our biggest items were missing: a queen-size mattress, a large area rug, and a cat tower. To make matters worse, none of the furniture they disassembled was put back together. As someone moving across the country, do you think I had immediate access to a toolbox? I called the main line at Coastal and was directed to then deal with the moving agency that picked up our stuff and that their side of the deal was done and they owed us nothing.  Ultimately that other company settled the issue with compensation, and their employees were great--I should have just gone with them from the beginning. Coastal, on the other hand, should be much clearer about their process instead of misleading customers by implying they handle the moving themselves.  Coastal Moving is fraudulent brokerage!!!! Honestly, you're better off doing it yourself than ever hiring them! read more
