From the first phone call making the appt I was having a different experience for the better. The building and site are gorgeous, parking adequate and easy. Front desk friendly and competent, Vet Intake tech gentle and patient with my high-strung 15mo old terriers. Dr Stack-Aquirre was also gentle patient and attentive, offered good suggestions for keeping my girls at optimum health. Took time to tell me why he suggested what he suggested. "STOP, BEWARE OF TEETH CLEANING WITH DR ELIAS STACK-AGUIRRE!!" On Feb 11, 2025, our 3 year old (just turned 4 on Feb 1st), happy, healthy Shih Tzu pup, had her teeth cleaned by a very caring hygenist, however Dr StacK AGUIRRE EXTRACTED 10 TEETH AND DID NOT CALL US TO DISCUSS OR ASK FOR OUR PERMISSION! WE were SHOCKED and FELT SICK! We found this out when we were on our way to pick her up! I called and asked the office if my pup was ready and she put Dr. Stack-Aguirre on. He said in an upbeat tone of voice, "I extracted 10 teeth, but don't worry, she has plenty more teeth and she's fine!" We were shocked, and thought we misunderstood him. My husband said "two teeth?" He said "NO, TEN!" We were SHOCKED! Our little healthy pup had never displayed discomfort or problems with chewing before. Dr. Stack-Aguirre DID NOT CALL US TO DISCUSS OR ASKED FOR OUR PERMISSION!! Our pup went in at 7:30am and now it was 2:30pm and the doctor stated he just finished with her. Asking him numerous times why he did not call us, he just kept repeating that her teeth were loose and there was bone loss! I finally asked him, "Dr. Stack- Aguirre, would you do this again, extract 10 teeth from a young 3 or 4 year old pup without calling the owners to discuss it and ask them for their permission? " And he responded, " ABSOLUTELY, YES!" Again we were so shocked, we had to repeat our question, and his response was the same!! On the way home in tears, we called three different Vet clinics/hospitals and none of them had the same protocol as Dr. Stack-Aguirre. What they told us was that none of them would have extracted 10 teeth without consulting the owners first and getting permission! As of today, we called a total of 7 Vet clinics /hospitals and they too, all kept repeating "we are so sorry, so sorry you had this experience! No we would not extract teeth without discussing it and asking the owner's permission!" We also feel Dr. Stack-Aguirre's pre-operation form needs to be revised to clearly state the work to be done, including the number of projected teeth to be removed so there is no confusion. Please do not let Dr. Elias Stack-Aguirre continue to do this unconscionable act to you and your beloved pet. It's wrong to not let the final decision whether to pull teeth or not, including the number of teeth, be up to the owners of the dog! read more

An example of their stellar business practice was when my 12yr old dog was attacked at El Chorro Dog Park. They took him in immediately and cared for him 8. Now that CVC has switched ownership to Dr Stack-Aguirre and his wife I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for genuine veterinary care. As a former employee, I can speak from a different perspective. After working for several different clinics over the years, I can say with certainty that Dr. Stackie exhibits great bedside manner and conducts his appointments in a way that feels both relaxed and professional. He is one of the only Veterinarians I know that uses every moment as a teaching moment and really enjoys expanding the knowledge of his veterinary technicians. This clinic also offers in house lab testing so you can rest easy knowing that you can have the results of a blood panel or urinalysis during your appointment. If you're looking for a vet, I would give CVC a shot. They offer great veterinary care with a family feel. read more

I took my 14-year-old terrier here because of his increasing symptoms of dementia which cause him to wander and cry at night. I've had this dog since he was 3, and I've had other dogs before and since. My dog came from a purebred rescue organization that pulled him out of a horrific breeding facility, and he's had lifelong health problems; including dry eye and discoid lupus. I have always provided him good care, which has included expensive compounded medications, supplements, a special diet for his allergies, etc. I've spent thousands of dollars over the years and remain committed to keeping him cared for and comfortable for the remainder of his life. This was the second time we saw Dr. Stack-Aguirre. Last time was about a year ago when the other vet in this practice wasn't available. I wasn't very impressed then either, but I thought I'd give him another try because he was the only one available the day I called. My dog is overweight. I know it. I feed him the same as our other two terriers - but he's just got a slower metabolism. He is mostly blind and deaf and has arthritis so doesn't get a lot of exercise either. It is what it is. When the Dr. came in the exam room he immediately proceeded to literally "fat shame" me for my dog's weight; "He's only lost 1. 5 pounds since he was here last year...don't you want him to be healthy?" He would not let up. I felt attacked and felt he implied I was neglecting the dog! I listened for awhile, and tried to explain that I feed him high-quality food, have made recommended changes, but that I feel at his age it's not the most primary priority. Eventually I cut him off to say; "That is not why I brought him here. I want to talk about pain management and anxiety." After all that I just got a cursory exam, a directive to increase the dog's already prescribed pain med, and a suggestion I try giving him some Benadryl at night. Oh, and here's some samples of diet dog food we sell. That experience cost me a chunk of my day and $50. I won't be going back. I don't appreciate being treated that way. Frankly, I find Dr. Stack-Aguerrie to be arrogant and judgmental. There are other more professional, empathetic, and collaborative vets out there. I'll seek care for this, and my other dogs, elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Coast Vet for over 20 years with various dogs, cats and even Guinea pigs! I've worked with all the vets that have worked there including those that have retired. I have always appreciated their compassion, professionalism and care for both me and my furry family members. They are always very busy but take the time to hear my concerns, follow up, and express their genuine care. I consider the doctors and staff as part of an integral team to keep my pets healthy and happy! I have been taking both of my dogs to Dr. Stack-Aguirre for years. As soon as we had our first appointment with him, we knew we had finally found the right vet for all of their life stages. He is kind and empathetic, but he doesn't BS. If my dog needs to lose weight because she has arthritis and the extra weight is putting strain on her joints and making it worse, he is going to tell me. He has performed a number of surgeries on my dogs and they came through them So much better than they had after surgeries performed by others. He has been there for all of my dogs' life stages, from rambunctious and impulsive "indiscriminate eaters" (hence two of the surgeries), to living the senior life and ensuring that my girls live their best lives for as long as possible. It is a blessing to have a vet who I can trust to have my girls' best interest first and foremost in his mind during our appointments. All of the staff and vets at Central Coast Vet Clinic have been wonderful through the years as well. They are nice but respectful of my shy dog and warm and happy with my exuberant one. Johnny Knoxville had just had spleen surgery and I was very impressed on how Dr. Stack-Aguirre was very fluent on what my options were, what should be done, and he expressed his concerns very throughly. The team is always so friendly, and even though it was a hard surgery going in, I had full faith in the doctor. Always feel like my dog is so loved by the team, after moving here I did my research in the county before choosing coast vet clinic. I am So happy I did. On vacation with my dogs in Morro Bay and yesterday my Waggles hurt her leg somehow. We called CVC just after they opened and got an appointment at 10 AM same day! They don't overcharge either. Everyone we spoke to on staff is so sweet and friendly. They met us at the car as a covid safety measure, felt safe and efficient. Dr. Stevens is a total sweetheart. It looks like Waggles just strained a muscle so he got her some pain meds and even carried her back to the car for us. This is the best experience both my mom and I have had with a vet clinic and we're honestly sad it was during vacation and we can't make them our regular clinic! You can tell the staff enjoys their work and that they care about the pets! Grateful for such amazing service, especially at short notice! read more

Dr. Truax is has been the most compassionate and reasonable animal doctor I have found in the county. He was always "there" for me and my beautiful dog. We were vacationing in Morro Bay when our 16+year old dog's health quickly deteriorated. In keeping our promise to him that we would never let him suffer, we started vet offices. The first 3 on Yelp unsympathetically and coldly informed us that they had no appointments for two days. Fortunately the next office was Coast Veterinary Clinic. From the moment they answered the phone I felt empathy and kindness. We took our Buddy in and saw Dr. Elias the same day. He was absolutely fantastic. Not only was he skilled and professional, he was empathetic and sympathetic to what we were going through He stayed with us and supported us through the whole process as our fur baby went to sleep in my arms. Though it was a sad occasion, when we walked out we knew we'd done the right thing by Buddy. I wish I lived in Morrow Bay and could use this veterinary clinic in the future. read more

I came to him twice already, since my first vet in SLO gave untrustworthy recommendations and overpriced treatments (with quotes of three to four times what any ordinary person could afford). I had him be my second opinion on my beloved dog, who's getting older. But I am glad I got this recommendation from my old neighbor in Morro Bay, and he truly is what I expected. The vet treatments are super affordable. Dr. S-A gives reasonable and logical explanations, and excellent recommendations. I trust him with my dog's life. I was told mixed reviews about this place. I thought the bad reviews were exaggerated. I was wrong. With the exception of one of the assistants, the whole experience was disappointing and unprofessional. Thankfully there's plenty of other professionals in the area. If you can help it, save yourself the trouble and find friendlier, more professional care for your pet. It's not something to gamble with. I hear Dr Stevens is the only good thing here. I believe that much. With that said, I Highly recommend Bear Valley Animal Clinic in Los Osos. Those are incredibly kind people. Stay away from this vet. Many dogs in his care have died when under anesthesia. There are other vets in the area that are very good.

I needed to find a new vet closer to home in Cayucos and did online research since no one I knew had pets. My 19 year old rescue potentially had congenitive heart disease due to her "big heart" and heart mumer. Due to her breathing issues I could not get an appointment immediately but was told I could do a "drop off" tomorrow. This facility (the front office staff and vet Dr. Stack-Aguirre) were AMAZING! I got amazing attention to Sassy (who by they way pooped and peed in the front lobby by accident!) and they were so comforting to me. A nurse picked her up and she just went to the back which she would not do with Anyone I know! The diagnosis was not a good one but better than it could have been and her vet was very positive and encouraging with me over the phone. My dog is my life and best friend. I trust nobody with her but I learned today that I can trust them here. Also with all the tests, time and attention they gave to her as well as updating me, the cost was half of the previous area emergency vet facility when it was NOT an emergency! read more

I have been taking my cat to Coast Vet since I moved here 12 years ago and Dr. Truax was a kind compassionate Vet who actually loved cats. Sadly he left his practice and turned it over to Stack-Aguerrie who was neither kind nor compassionate thus my previous negative comments. I preferred Dr Stevens and brought my cat to him for the last several months. But apparently Dr Stevens was told to jump.... Tonight I received a phone call from one of the staff telling me that I was not to bring my cats there again if I did not remove the comment I made in February or March about Stack.Aguerrie. I was not allowed to bring my cats, pick up the insulin, syringes or food. I feel sorry for the staff member who was told to call me. The staff is wonderful it's shame the vets aren't. read more

My cat is very ill and when I offered some ideas as to what might be wrong with my cat he got upset, interpreting my ideas as me "doing his job." I may as well have because after telling him a page long worth of symptoms, his response was "maybe the cat doesnt like the cat food." I am known for my calm nature, but after this visit I was beyond IRATE. It was as though he didnt even care about my cats well being. I need a vet that is compassionate and competent. Dr. Elias Stack-Eguirre is neither. On top of that, he charged me for a worthless visit! MAKE SURE YOUR ANIMAL IS IN THE HANDS OF SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY CARES! This place is horrifying. From the uncaring front office staff to the vet that saw us (which I had to insist on seeing to even have questions answered, he couldn't be bothered). They turned a very painful situation into a prolonged, terrible tragedy just to collect 325 from us. Our 16 year old kitty suffered a long and painful death while they lied to us and put her through procedures when nothing could be done. These people do NOT care about your furry family member. Do not take your beloved pets here. The second vet we went to that performed the euthanization said what they did was shameless, and not the first he had heard about this place. Stay away!! read more
