None have come close to matching the quality and professionalism of The Dentist Place of Ocala & Dr. Carol Fiola. They contact you prior to your appointment, for confirmation, and have never kept me waiting past my appointment time. On my last checkup/cleaning I mentioned a vacation i was going on. No big deal, small talk right.. Six months later "How was your vacation?" was the first thing Carol asked upon seeing me!!!! Hows that for sincere interest in a patient. In a day & age when health care providers treat you more like cattle than a client The Dentist Place of Ocala is a breath of fresh air. Give 'em a try. I'm sure they will impress.

When I showed up, I found out there were insurance problems and that I was also going to be seeing a different hygienist without being told beforehand. The office manager then tried to blame me, claiming I had made the appointment without providing the proper information, which was not true. She even suggested I should have known to ask specific insurance questions that an average patient would have no reason to know. That is exactly what their staff should be verifying and communicating. Instead of taking accountability for the multiple failures, they did everything possible to dodge responsibility, make excuses for the staff, and make it seem like the patient was at fault. There was absolutely no respect for my time--I missed work and lost money because they had weeks to handle this properly and failed to do so. The manager did not even introduce herself. No name tag, no verbal introduction--she simply appeared and immediately started making excuses and shifting blame. They also admitted they don't necessarily cancel or notify patients when insurance doesn't work out or when a hygienist changes. They just make the changes and let you show up. Extremely unprofessional, poor communication, and zero accountability.

I'm posting this to warn other parents!…read more Dr. Kristen uses pressure tactics and an ultimatum-based approach instead of transparency and options. Went to my 4-year-old's visit and was told she has 5 cavities. They presented a treatment proposal totaling $4,107 and insisted there were no options other than completing all fillings under IV sedation (they quoted $1,800 for IV sedation alone). I specifically asked about alternatives--staged visits, nitrous/laughing gas, monitoring, sealants/fluoride, etc.--and was told IV sedation was the only option. I was also told I cannot be present during the procedure. One of the teeth they labeled a "cavity" is a known trauma injury to her upper left canine (tooth H) from a fall about a year ago. I witnessed the injury and the area has been stable since (you can clearly see enamel loss with dentin showing). Our family dentist previously evaluated it and documented it as trauma-related dentin exposure, not decay. This office dismissed the trauma history completely and repeatedly insisted it was "definitely a cavity." They also took X-rays, but when I asked to see the images to confirm whether cavities were between the teeth and how deep, I was told the X-rays were "deleted" and they could not show me anything--yet they still spoke in absolutes and pushed IV sedation. As if that wasn't enough, they also stated my child has a tongue tie and suggested they cut it while she is under sedation, despite the fact that she has no feeding, speech, or tongue-related issues. This was presented casually as an add-on, not as a symptom-based evaluation or referral. What pushed this over the edge: I was told they will not see my child again for cleanings unless we proceed with their recommended fillings/sedation. I have never experienced a provider withholding basic preventive care as leverage to force agreement to treatment. My child has no pain. What we needed was evidence, a clear explanation, and reasonable options. What we got was pressure, dismissiveness, missing diagnostics, and an "our way or no care" stance. We will be getting a second opinion elsewhere, and I strongly suggest other parents do the same.

If you value a dental visit that respects your child's experience and your role as a parent, you…read moremay want to look elsewhere. Today we had a very disappointing experience at Grins and Giggles. For context, my daughter is three years old, and this was our first visit to this office. From the start, the environment felt anything but welcoming or child-friendly. The dental hygienist called my daughter's name without introducing herself or explaining her role, then directed us to "sit in the dark blue room." She immediately put headphones and glasses on my daughter without explaining what was going to happen. My daughter is bilingual and not yet fully proficient in English. I tried to calmly explain what the hygienist was doing, but the cleaning felt rushed and far from gentle. To make matters worse, the cartoon playing on the screen was completely inappropriate for her age--dark, scary, with fire and dragons. My daughter was visibly frightened and stayed completely silent throughout the cleaning. While waiting for the dentist, she asked to remove the headphones because she didn't want to watch it anymore. Dr. Alissa initially seemed friendlier, but the tone changed quickly when I asked why dental X-rays were being insisted upon for such a young child. She became irritated and abrupt, and told us plainly that if we did not agree to X-rays, we were not welcome at her practice. I tried to explain that, according to American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry best-practice guidelines, dental radiographs are not recommended routinely based solely on age (such as for a 3-year-old). Instead, they should be individualized based on clinical need, caries risk, medical and dental history, and the ability to visually examine tooth surfaces. Radiographs are meant to be adjunct diagnostic tools--not screening procedures--and should follow the ALARA principle (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize radiation exposure. The response was dismissive. The impression I was left with is that insurance reimbursement matters more here than thoughtful, individualized decision-making or a child's safety. Ironically, the office still uses lead aprons, which are no longer routinely recommended based on current evidence and may even increase exposure by leading to retakes. At no point did anyone attempt to make this experience positive, comforting, or even educational for my child. There was no effort to build trust or address parental concerns. The message was essentially: be quiet, watch TV, don't ask questions--we need to check boxes and move fast. Wear the office's T-shirt next time and you'll get a prize. Frankly, it makes one wonder whether the glowing Google reviews are fueled by those same "prizes."

Got all the way through the cleaning appointment with no mention of concern. When the dr came in to…read moredo her portion she went through all teeth, said no cavities doing great, then went to point out a different tooth movement in the x-ray, stops and says "oh wait, no there's a small cavity down here," which snowballed to an emergency at a whopping $2k quote with anesthesia... how was everything clear one second, then a huge problem the next? 8 years and multiple children through this office but I'm searching for a new practice now due to the obvious lack of honesty here.
