We used to have Coal Fire in Virginia, and it was my favorite pizza place. We were lucky enough to stumble upon this one on our way to Lancaster! The service was exceptional, as the server was very attentive to our needs and the food was prepared in a decently quick manner. The pizza was 12/10 and the French fries we ordered were very crispy and delicious. Coal fire lets you choose your sauce, so we chose the medium spice one. It was the perfect amount of flavor. For splitting between 4 people, this was an incredible deal for the price we paid. The restaurant was nice and had a nice atmosphere. It's also near Wegmans and Tous Les Jours... so lots of fun places for post dinner exploring! read more

I had dinner with a good friend just yesterday evening at Coal Fire. When we initially arrived, there weren't many people there, but after a while, it was a packed house! The ambience was chill and comfortable and our waitress was nice. The food, however was kinda sorta subpar, besides one particular stand out item. Now, I won't say don't give this place a try, I really think it's worth a chance and I'd even give it a second shot! I'll start with my meal. I ordered the mozzarella sticks, Caesar salad and meatballs with no cheese. The mozzarella sticks are large and were pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but decent nonetheless. The salad was fresh, and simple- just like you'd imagine a simple Caesar salad would be. The meatballs were a bit disappointing, unfortunately. Now the meat itself was fresh and homemade, I could definitely tell. But there was a serious lack of seasoning and without the mountain of mozzarella cheese, it just wasn't worth the price point. Now this was my first time here and I did see a couple of items that I still wanted to try, which is why I'd be willing to come back. My friend ordered a margarita and said that it was very lime-y/strong, but still drinkable (ie, not terrible). She ordered a pizza with onions, pepperoni and sausage (this place makes thin crust pizza only, so be mindful of the number of toppings you add- it could make the pizza a bit soggy). It came out very delicious looking, but my friend did mention that it could've been baked a minute or two longer. She also ordered French fries. The order of fries were HUGE- you can definitely share them with your party. The star of the WHOLE MEAL for me was the onion rings!!! I was not expecting them to be that delicious, but they were! They were lightly battered and seasoned very well. The dipping sauce that came with them uwas sooooo good. Garlicky and just delightful. You could put the dip on a burger or dip your fries in it! I honestly would come back for the onion rings alone! We didn't have dessert, but they do offer cannolis. As I mentioned, they deserve a shot, and I'd come back. It's not a five star restaurant, but it's a pretty decent establishment that is obviously popular with the locals. Try'em out! read more

Food is always good at Coal Fire. I've usually gone in the Columbia location but we stopped by at this location on our way back to MD and had mixed feelings about the service. Again as noted, the food was delicious. Pizzas are one of the best around here and their spicy sauce is above any other sauce I've tested other than homemade. However, their service could be improved. The server was fine to come and take order from us really quickly and the food was out on our table soon as well. However, when we were done, I had to go inside to ask someone to get our check and even then they told me they couldn't help me, only the server could. The whole process took 20 min after asking for the check. There were some other minor issues as well throughout the service. read more

They gave me a gift card for my last review so I used it to get a quick cheesesteak to go and they forgot the fries. Had to wait several minutes for them and they come out dry bland. And one more thing. I get its a restaurant so the prices are higher, but $15 for something not restaurant quality and such tiny portions is just so upsetting. Met some family friends we haven't seen in a while for lunch. We got side Caesar salads and a pepperoni pizza with half of it with mushrooms for me. Salads were solid. Pizza was solid too. They had 3 options for sauce; classic, signature, & a spicy option. We went with signature which was on the sweet side. For me, pizza in the Baltimore area is polarizing because by & large the pizza here sucks. I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. We had an order of fries too. It's a good pizza. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the best around, but it's good pizza. The signature sauce is amazing, it's on the sweet side. So, if you're one of those sugar doesn't go in spaghetti sauce type of people, please be warned, you will not enjoy the signature sauce. Needless to say I'm a fan. This was my second time visiting this establishment and my first experience was much more enjoyable. Giving it three stars for this visit because the hostess sat us at what appeared to be a clean table, but it was just a cleared old table. It hadn't been wiped down or sanitized and my 9 year old was disgusted. He went back and asked the hostess if she could wipe the table down or change our seats. Lol. She came over very apologetic and wiped down the half of the table where we were actually sitting. The other half of the table still had crumbs from the last party. Was not very clean, the bottoms of the dishes were dirty, and were stacked on top of each other dirtying the food side of other plates. DO NOT SIT OUTSIDE, we came in early-mid September and were assulted by flies and bugs. It was not hot out, actually it was a very nice day, but the bugs ruined the meal. Subsequently sitting outside also didn't allow us to receive the best service as well. Service was just slow to check on us and we had to step inside to receive the check. But honestly, if it wasn't for being outside I can't give an accurate review on service. I also recommend sitting in the bar area with tvs. I've also tried their prosciutto bites which would be more aptly named ricotta bites. They're good and better than something like a mozzarella stick if you are going to be pairing them with pizza. They also have wings (no boneless) and a few salads/pastas/entrees but I have not tried those. The signature sauce is amazing (I find it weird that others didn't like it, personally... But maybe they are not fans of sweet sauces?). We got it on the margherita pizza, which was also good. The thin, crispy crust was just right and the little bit of melted cheese on top was delicious. The chopped basil pieces added a little bit of flavor to the whole thing. Service was good - friendly server who gave us refills when we needed them. All in all, not a bad place, and not too expensive either. It was $16 before tip for a pizza and a Pepsi.
