The pizza was greasy as anything and the cheesesteak had very little flavor and they just slapped on two deli slices of cheese on top. Didn't bother to cook the cheese in with the steak. Just layin on top melted like it was the un lucky slice. But positive: our server was super sweet. I would suggest they get rid of the guy upfront. So I just finished my takeout meal from II Basilico Trattoria. I had a taste for a meatball sub with fries and a fountain drink. I called my order in and the person that took my call said it would be about twenty minutes. Upon entry, I noticed the unfortunate, familiar smell of mildew. If I had initially decided to eat in, I would've honestly changed my mind. It wasn't overpowering, but it definitely was noticeable. Anyways, I got an 8 inch meatball sub that came with sauce, mozzarella and parm cheese on a roll with French fries. The food smelled delicious through the bag. When I got home, which was about ten minutes away, I took everything out of the bag. I tasted a fry and it was pretty good in comparison to other restaurant's fries. They were well seasoned. Nothing to go crazy about. I looked at the meatball sub and instantly knew that it needed some assistance. It was lacking in sauce, and the cheese wasn't completely bubbly-melty to my personal liking. You know how a sandwich that has cheese is perfectly toasty and browned? This wasn't that. I would've liked the sandwich to be a bit hotter as well as the fries. I had to warm everything up in the microwave. There were no napkins, salt, pepper or ketchup in the bag. I actually had to put more sauce, seasonings and Parmesan cheese on my sandwich. I should've took a picture of how the sandwich looked before, but you can see how I dressed it up a bit in my photo. It was pretty good, the meatballs were standard Italian style meatballs. They, like the fries, were well seasoned , but I wish the meatballs were cooked in sauce instead of just topped in sauce. The roll was fresh and soft, I'll give credit for that. All in all, the total came to $18.02 and with a three dollar tip, came to $21.02. Was it worth the price? No. What I got was worth no more than $11 or $12 bucks. Sure, it was a decent sandwich & fries, but it just wasn't worth that price point. Would I return? Maybe, if I were in the area. But I'll probably try a few more Italian restaurants in the vicinity to compare prices and quality. Three and a half solid stars. read more

Another great meal at Il Basilico today, for a work lunch with colleagues. Everything on the menu can be made GF, so I had the shrimp and pasta with vodka sauce. It was hot, fresh veggies and creamy sauce and the pasta was very good, especially for being gluten free! Our server was mindful of our time, and accommodating and attentive to our requests. Met up with some friends last night for dinner. This was also my first visit to Il Basilico. I've received mailers from them over the years and was intrigued but not enough to make a visit. When arriving, I noticed the house isn't fancy, which is good from a value standpoint. It's very homey at Il Basilico. The menu contains a broad range of favorites from appetizers to pizza and beyond. My own order consisted of a small (but ample) Caesar salad which was very good. My entree was their chicken parmigiana with penne pasta covered in marinara. I believe the chicken was thinned out and breaded. The chicken and pasta were quite good. You know those mailers I mentioned? I was especially impressed with their pizza offerings. Their website tells the story of their founder who basically perfected pizza. Throughout my visit I had a sense they were slinging more pies than entrees as dozens made their way through the front door and being Monday customers bypassed at least two pizzerias selling half price pies on Mondays. Came across this amazing restaurant while driving and I can't say how happy I am. The staff here is super friendly and very attentive. I ordered the pappardelle pasta with tomato sauce, it tasted fresh the tomato sauce was home made with the best flavors. We had the lobster ravioli, which had plenty of lobster chunks, and the fettucini al ragu. We also got the BBQ pizza which was good, except it did not seem to be thin crust as advertised. I liked that this place was BYOB though I would have appreciated the waiter telling us upfront that there was a $2 per person wine charge, not because we wouldn't have eaten here but so that we didn't get surprised as we did when the bill came. The portion size was decent but I couldn't resist trying their tiramisu, which was very tasty. They do carryout as well- plenty of cars kept pulling up for curbside pickup. The staff kept hurrying food orders outside so they did seem to be hard workers. Overall, we had a good experience here but little things keep me from giving it a 5/5. read more

I have not made a visit for a long time because the service was so bad starting with the hostess turning my stomach but even worse was the atmosphere. Well, the food is as great as ever and the service was much, much better, but they still have not any updates to the dining area, and it really looks dirty. The booths' cushions are torn up and the rest of the atmosphere felt like something out of a horror movie. I heard they are going well but isn't that more of a reason to update the restaurant. I almost left as my stomach lost its appetite, but I had to stay and find out if the food was still good and they didn't disappoint. Meatballs are the traditional way and not a mixture of different beef and are just fantastic. The chicken is well pounded or flattened, not sure which but very tender. I am sure that they must have a high carry out business because I can imagine they can make off the number of people that dine in their very old, worn and just disgusting atmosphere. My husband placed a takeout order on the app slicelife and paid plus tip (I am attaching the recipe for your reference). I went to the restaurant to pick it up and was called out by your worker saying that I needed to pay for my food. I quickly called my husband who shared the receipt to my e-mail. This lady called a hispanic worker who stated that he spoke to my husband on the phone and my husband DID NOT PAY FOR THE FOOD. I tried to explain to him that this was a mistake, since my husband never called the restaurant, because he used the app. This hispanic guy was RUDE and kept saying that he called and talked to him. I felt so disrespected, and will never go back to your restaurant again (I will make sure other people hear my experience, because I was treated like a thief). This is unacceptable. Your workers did not want to see the receipt nor the statement from my credit card, but instead they told me I could leave the restaurant. In 31 years, I have never experienced anything like this, and do not wish that anyone goes through this. We won't be returning after close to 20 years. Anna no longer owns Il Basilico and you can taste it, feel it and see it. The food was beyond sub par, they served cooking olive oil with the bread, the pasta w/ white wine sauce was sour, maybe due to cheap olive oil or wine and too much lemon in the sauce. The server Christina was snippy when having to deal with our displeasure. Saying "what is it now" we had to wait 10 min just for bread, had to ask for Parmesan cheese and waters to be refilled. I love, love, love I'll Basilico. I feel like an idiot because this has been next to my go-to sushi place, Yamato, the entire time and I took so long to eat there. Some background, I grew up in Northern New Jersey and ever since coming to Maryland for college in 1995, I've always been in search of good pizza. Let's be honest here, if you're from NY, NJ, or CT living in Maryland you most likely don't like any pizza around here. When I came to college everyone was ordering Papa John's and I would just throw my arms up in defeat saying "This isn't pizza". If you grew up in the northeast you likely had your favorite mom and pop pizza place that was your go-to. There is no replacing that taste, the smell, it's a memory that brings you back to childhood. Il Basilico does that for me, it's the closest to Pizza Palace in Mt. Freedom NJ that you'll ever find in MD. The crust is thin, chewy and crisp on the bottom, the sauce is well balanced and not overly sweet, and the cheese tastes like I remember from home. Both the plain cheese and margarita pizza are phenomenal and I knew there was nowhere else I needed to look after finding Il Basilico. We also got some catering orders of gnocchi, chicken and penne for Halloween 2020 during COVID for a small group of family and friends and it was fantastic; so close to what I'm used to from North Jersey. If your local and haven't been, do yourself a favor and order from Il Basilico. If you're from the Northeast and live down here, this should be your go-to for typical mom and pop Italian pizzeria food that you love from home. You can't go wrong with Il Basilico! read more

How does a restaurant which "specializes" in pizza have NO slices available at dinner time? The last couple of times I have been in there, AT DINNER TIME, all of the pizza slices are gone! Do they put out pizza at lunch and when it runs out, it runs out? We are talking no pizza at 6 pm. Ridiculous. This place has become a joke. There is a new spot called Tony's of NY in Mays Chapel. It was surprising to get the bill $33.00 and see that each of the (items/toppings) vegetables that we added to the Stromboli were two dollars each. We added mushrooms onions tomatoes and spinach. The spinach was actually four dollars. So the stuffing/toppings cost as much as a Stromboli itself. it's not like there was a good portion size either. Was told a time frame to pick food up and clearly my order was lost. Took an additional 30 minutes sitting outside waiting with no updates to the status despite the girls our front knowing we were waiting. The manager was downright rude, refused to apologize.
