My husband and I had carryout pizza for dinner one night. It was my first time trying Coalfire despite living in the neighborhood for eight years. We ordered a custom pizza with chicken and onions. It was delicious with just enough of each topping we ordered. It hit the spot after a long day and I look forward to trying more of their pizzas in the future!

    Next to our table

We normally love this place so hopefully this is a temp situation but they are currently understaffed (8/1/25). Our food was taking ages while other tables around us who had sat down after us were eating...I asked a runner about our food, and it came out instantly. But clearly the food had been sitting and waiting a long time. My chicken Parm was not only overcooked (unrelated to sitting out), but was cold and looked dry, and the pasta was crusty. I was assured that my daughter's pasta was fresh, although that was very questionable as well. The manager offered to remake my dish, however I am certain that they just heated up the same dish , added fresh cheese, and gave it back to me - it had been cut and was exactly as overcooked. The pasta had more sauce on it than needed. The manager told us that he would comp our entire meal, but when I brought it up to the waiter, he said that they would take a percentage off. We watched as the manager bussed tables and dealt with to go food that was clearly not going smoothly. The waiter admitted they were understaffed. There was some something that looked like wet rained-on cake on the ground next to us and stuff all over the seat, as if the place had not been properly prepped and cleaned for dinner. Overall, the worst experience we've had here.

Grilled Caesar Salad - split (really good!)

I really enjoyed the pizza. We had a Margherita with signature sauce (instead of classic). I also split a grilled Caesar salad, which was very good. My daughter got spaghetti and meatballs. She didn't care for the meatballs, but the sauce was tasty. My youngest ordered kids chicken tenders with fries; they were what you might expect. The fries are skinny, which provides a nice texture, but they needed more salt. The restaurant inside is pretty generic. Overall, solid choice and I would order pizza regularly, if I lived closer.

Normal pizza. A little light on the sauce but cheese was adequate.

Sign of a well managed restaurant or establishment is taking the time to read the reviews, thank the customers for leaving one whether positive or negative, and addressing the negative reviews. We're not talking about hundreds of reviews here. Only a few per month, if that. It shows that either management crew or management doesn't care. Coal Fire management certainly does not.

First time trying this place and it was good! Had the right amount of crust and their crab Mac & cheese was good. Nothing bad to say about this place. I would definitely order from here again! Thanks Coal Fire

The pizza was fine, but I did not think it was worth the price. It was a little on the dry side for my liking.

I made a call in pick up order and got the chicken parm sub $11.75 and gemellis pepperoni special $24. Also, the service for ordering and picking up was quick and easy. - The chicken parm sub was solid, but the main problem was the lack of tomato sauce. - The pepperoni special was a miss for me, and that's unfortunate cause I remember it being way better last time. It's cheesy, but the lack of tomato sauce and the dough/bread being underwhelming/ weak really ruins the taste experience. Overall, it seems that Gemelli has definitely fallen off in terms of the quality & taste that I've enjoyed previously. Don't know if I'd be back, but I do know that their chicken parm and polpette subs are still worthy choices in my eyes.

Having traveled and dined across the globe, I did not expect homemade pasta, fresh espresso, and Neapolitan style pizza to be in Rockville MD. If you live within an hour drive, just take the trip and have lunch or dinner here. Try the espresso martini! I shared a cheese pizza with my daughter, my mother had the chicken piccata, my cousin the gnocchi, my father the chicken parm, my cousin had a caprese salad and the further seats I couldn't see. We all shared a few orders of the calamari. EVERYONE raved about how delicious their food was. I agree. Probably the best piccata I've tasted. The pizza was excellent. The tiramisu great. The pistachio gelato was perfect. I sure wish they were closer to Florida!! So good.

The biggest hit for me was the suppli appetizer. These are absolutely delicious and vegetarian friendly! Similar to arancini but somehow even more delicious. These are a must-order. I had the pasta alla vongole and a bite of my husband's chicken parmigiana. Our friend had mushroom ravioli that she loved, but I didn't try as I don't care for mushrooms. I've been on a clams and garlic kick lately for some reason and the vongole comes with these and bonus bacon. I would have preferred the bacon a tad crispier, but that is personal preference. I'd give this dish 4* - I would get it again but after trying some others. From the one bite the chicken parmigiana was a 5*. Their marinara is very good and the linguine in both our dishes tastes freshly made. We all split the chocolate temptation dessert and I ate more of it than I expected to, it is chocolate mousse adjacent cake with ganache frosting, very light, perfectly sweet. Often I find chocolate desserts too much after a big meal but this one wasn't heavy at all. 5* My friend ordered sangria which she thought was more like a wine cooler; too sweet for her French oenophile sensibilities and a bit lighter than a sangria usually is, but I am a pleb who loves sweet drinks and I would order it. If you are a sangria purist you might not care for it. Hubs enjoyed his old fashioned but said it needed a dash more bitters to be perfect. I was driving so enjoyed a non-dirty Shirley. Prices to me are reasonable for quality and portion size; our tab ended up high because of the appetizer, drinks and dessert but if you just had pizza or pasta with soda it would be pretty affordable. I will be back to get more suppli and try other dishes!

I rated a 4 because you can't customize the order on the app beyond the sauce, cheese, and one topping. I wanted to add extra cheese and additional toppings, and the app didn't enable me to do so as either a free or paid option. The service was great. No wait to be assisted, and the pizzas were made fresh and exactly as ordered. Friendly and prompt. The restroom didn't need a key or code. It was clean but smelled horrible. I would definitely come back to this location.

We ordered three pizzas online, so all of the additional toppings, modifications, etc. were already entered and listed on the ticket. Ideally, your order is ready at the promised time, and it's right - this &pizza missed on both fronts. I'll note that we ordered at prime dinner time for pickup, so the shop was swamped, and I'll give them some grace for that, but that doesn't mean that corners should be cut or that accuracy should be sacrificed. Our pizzas were not ready at the promised time (we had about a 10-minute wait... nothing offensive, but I think them being behind led to the rushing and skimming of toppings). A word to the wise, if you're picking up an order at this Rio location, make sure you break the seal and open the box in-shop to make sure that your pizza order is correct... Don't rely on &pizza to get it right, unless you order in-person and supervise. We didn't open the boxes until we got home, and when we did, we found that half of the toppings (aka the finishes) were missing. Pickled red onions - missing. Arugula - missing. Banana peppers - missing. Goat cheese - missing. Dry cilantro - missing. The blend seasoning - missing. Parmesan-Romano - missing. Red pepper flakes - missing. Kalamata Olives - missing. Where is the training and attention to detail? At my previous visit to an &pizza shop (different location, during the lunch rush), they also forgot a few toppings on my pizza, so I was really looking forward to an accurate pizza this time... but nope, strike two. Moreover, when notifying &pizza of the poor execution, management gave us the, "Sorry to hear that, we'll try better next time!" Sorry to hear that you're sorry, but I won't be returning to this location. Based on the other event Yelp reviews, my experience is not unique. A lot of my local &pizza shop locations have already shut down, but it's easy to understand why based on my recent experiences. Quality and customer service have significantly declined over the years, and their value proposition has waffled. As for the half-made pizza, the crust was fine, the sauce was fine, the cheese was fine. The pizza filled the box (which has not always been the case in my &pizza history), so portion size was good. &pizza is good when they can get it right, but I was lacking the freshness and flavor. The finishes should've accomplished that, but we'll never know. Things were amiss... I'm over this &pizza.
