This is THE candy store for leather workers!…read more I didn't even know it existed until my Dad told me about it and invited me along (my Dad has owned a number of leather businesses covering most of the leather spectrum since I was wee one, and I learned a great deal of the industry and what to look for through osmosis). For the size of the store, they've got FANTASTIC selection and all kinds of hides around the store (including snakeskin). For those interested in tool work, they have more selection under one roof than I've seen in my entire life. My Dad went to Tandy to check out their magnet selection since it's apparently difficult to find the kind of powerful magnets that he's looking for these days. There's a decent variety of leather-based kits if you're a beginner as well as endless tools that meet the needs for the medium to advanced leather worker. The service might be as one would expect when they think of leather (is there a standard even? It reminds me the stereotypical "guys" store (cars, collectors, etc.) where the service is only available if you wait and track them down. Because they seem to be one of the very few who have such a great variety in the leather-working world, they get 4-stars.

I was a little intimidated when I first walked in the store because all the employees seemed too busy to answer any of my questions, but when I did ask they were very nice and eager to help. The store has a great selection of belt buckles and other embellishments, including embossing pieces in a lot of really cool designs. They also have box projects that you can buy, so you're all set to make a hat, belt, purse, whatever. If you need something for a saddle, they have that too. A family came in to buy leather for their kitchen chairs while I was in. So the options are pretty vast! They can also get leather custom dyed to whatever color you need, although it's more expensive and takes a longer. At least it's an option! They also keep your name on file, and have student discounts. I will definitely be back.

I first found Strey Designs at an art show almost 2 years ago and splurged on one of her Ragamuffin backpacks - and I have used it nearly every day since and it looks even more amazing than the day I got it as the leather has become softer and developed even more character. Since my first purchase - I have become a frequent visitor to Strey Designs studio at Northrup King Building. I worked with Strey on designing a custom bag (picking out my specific leathers/fabric/strap combos) and it was so fun to visit the studio. Through visiting the studio Sarah explained her design and manufacturing process, helped me understand how the various leathers will age, leather care, how to use all of the adaptable straps many of her bags offer and I was able to really witness the immense passion she has for her product. My Strey Designs collection is constantly growing - as I've now purchased 3 backpacks, a wallet and a few other accessories. I constantly get compliments from strangers and friends asking me about my bags. This company has amazing design and unbelievable quality - 150% would recommend any of their products!

We were perusing her beautiful leather bags for something that'd work for our son (w/Muscular Dystrophy who uses a wheelchair full time). After hearing his needs, she offered to custom make a small bag for him. She made recommendations that would not only accommodate his physical needs, but add durability & masculine touches. The bag just arrived in the mail & we could not be more thrilled! We would highly recommend Sarah to anyone looking for quality workmanship at reasonable prices. It's obvious to see, her heart is in all that she makes:)
