I have done a few classes here now, learning more with each one, I think I'm finally to the point of starting my own project I'm determined to make a purse! They have everything you would need for leather projects here, leather( duh...lol) waxed string, needles, all kinds of tools, and all the attachments, it's a lot! They also have great experienced employees who could help answer questions, steer you in the right direction!

I'm a college student studying fashion and accessory design and most of my wages are spent buying materials to make the projects for my classes. Today when I walked in, I was beyond worried about my budget that I was willing to lower my standards in quality in order to just get the job done. What I was experienced instead was and extremely helpful and kind staff that made sure to search every shelf until I found exactly the hide I needed to finish my project happily. And I save hundreds!! Literally hundreds! Because of their help, I am so happy to get started on this bag! Thank you so much!

A lot of negative comments all over for all the outlets I found in St Johns, Mandarin, Orange Park, etc. Further digging into the reviews suggested that for doing boots, Gus had better overall record and their 100+ years in business suggested they must be doing something right to stay in business paying for the lights and rent so long. I brought my boots in two days ago and the gentleman looked them over and agreed, new toe and heal tabs and new heels. I paid the man and was told it would be done within a week. Cash payment got a little discount too! Today I received a text that the boots were ready and I returned to the store. The boots were repaired very well, shined and happy camper here. Beyond that, I was impressed by several observations. First, they are unlike some stores I've seen with one person surrounded by piles of stuff, often unrelated to the shoe business. Two people were working there when I visited which suggests they get more than enough business to keep them busy and people must be coming back, repeat business. Also, the store was all about shoes with good selection of things one may want to care for leather and shoes. For me, looking for a shoe repair shop, this place is aces and I will be back.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement…read more In September 2025, I entrusted Atkinson's with my mother's crocodile purse--one of the very few items I have left from her, and something I intended to preserve and pass down to my daughters. I was quoted $200 to treat the leather and repair a single loose seam. Completely reasonable for something this meaningful. What followed was nearly seven months of zero accountability. I was told Nadine would call me to review the repair plan. She never did. Not once. I returned in December and again in February. Each time, I was told it would be handled. Each time, nothing had been done. Not even started. Michael, who was consistently kind and professional, apologized repeatedly and did everything he could on his end. Unfortunately, he was clearly left to manage a situation that was not his responsibility. This failure sits squarely with ownership. After months of waiting, I was eventually told to contact Charlie, the owner. I called multiple times. He was never available. No return calls. No follow-up. No ownership. When I finally returned in person, I was shocked to learn the purse had now been "worked on"--except instead of being repaired, it had been made worse. What was once a single compromised compartment is now a completely unusable bag. Both compartments are affected. No clear explanation was given--only that it "cannot be fixed." After nearly seven months of delays, broken promises, and complete lack of communication, I was handed back a sentimental, irreplaceable item in worse condition than when I left it. I left in tears. This was not just poor customer service--this was careless, dismissive, and completely unacceptable handling of something that was clearly communicated as deeply meaningful. The reality is, they are the only cobbler in town--and they act like it. No urgency, no accountability, and no respect for their customers' belongings. Thank you for ruining something I can never replace.

So disappointed in the strap. Both both sides of strap should be leather. Paid a lot to fix and was shocked at the repair.
