When I met doggy, TEDdy Roosevelt, at the animal shelter, my heart said adopt him but my head questioned whether my husband and I could make it work. Ted is a big, strong, and young adult dog. We needed to find the right coach. Thankfully, we found Julia Priest- our canine & human coach! In less than three months, Julia has coached us to help Ted learn basic commands, "stay in place" in the house and outside, and develop skills to become our hobby farm canine companion! In addition, as part of the coaching experience, Julia provides safe and secure weekly doggy socials at her country property with fellow K9 coaching participants. We highly recommend Julia Priest with Coach for Canines - she is a masterful, patient and caring doggy and human coach! read more

We've known Julia for 10 years. We trained our first lab puppy with her, and now she's helping us train our second lab puppy. We had 5 guests over for dinner recently, and our 4-1/2 month old lab pup stayed on her cot for the entire meal, almost an hour! That was even with the cat repeatedly walking past her and circling through the dining room. Our guests kept asking, "How old is she?!" Julia understands dog behavior, and is great at teaching effective training tools to her clients. Our pup not only understands what we're asking of her, she's enjoying the process as much as we are. Julia is knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate. She makes training positive and fun! read more

There came a day when my lovely quirky lab began acting out and became a bit unmanageable. I reached out to Julia owner of Coach for Canines for help. Julia was able to not only help my dog but also helped me in understanding her behaviors but taught me how to provide her leadership and guide her. She has a lovely large outdoor space for training and so much knowledge that I am constantly learning along with my dog. After 3 training sessions my dog has a completely differently mentality and is back to being obedient and working on some really cool skills like recall! Highly recommend giving coach for canines a call! read more

Coach For Canines - Julia helped me teach my fur child the importance of going to her bed when told and staying until releases. Here she is taking a snooze. - Pet Training Near Me - Galt, California

We began seeing Julia about 3 months ago. We needed help with basic training, but most of all my cattle dog Nova was very reactive to other dogs, especially after two attacks by a neighbor dog. Julia gave me the training and tools my dog and I needed to get comfortable walking around the neighborhood and being less reactive (sometimes not at all) around other dogs. We're getting better every day! I feel prepared to handle most situations and Nova has never been happier! I HIGHLY recommend Coach for Canines to anyone who needs training for their pup! She cares about the dogs and owner and goes the extra mile to make sure that you and your dog are working together harmoniously. read more

Julia has been an excellent coach for my daughter and her dog. I had concerns about my daughter's dog growling at other dogs. Julia has helped us with that and so much more! She has helped to develop a confidence in my daughter that will serve her for the rest of her life- beyond dog training. Julia is extremely knowledgeable about dog behavior and how to bring out the best in the dog using positive methods. I now enjoy having a well trained dog that can go anywhere. read more

Julia is amazing. She can figure out what your doing wrong and what your dog needs in one session. She has a depth of experience that helps you get the most with your dog partner. Plus it's fun for both of you. Our mini Australian Shepard missed his socialization due to COVID. We had a wild barking mess whenever we tried to walk outside. Now he politely sits near a stranger and allows them to pet him. We confidently and quietly walk by strange dogs. We have completed our first leg for novice rally competition and are almost ready for our good citizenship test. What more can I say. Thanks Julia read more

THE most incredible person, coach, and friend. I don't even have enough words to describe my experience to the fullest. Julia helped coach us when we got a German shepherd puppy. Her services went far beyond just the agreed upon classes. She committed herself to helping us and all of her clients in so many ways. She was always just a text or a phone call away to help me through ANY questions, struggles or setbacks we experienced with our wild pup. There is not one single doubt in my mind that she cares so deeply about dogs and helping owners have the best experiences with their dogs through behavior. Even after our package had ended... she never hesitated to help me with my questions and support me through the struggles of puppy-hood. If we ever get another dog, I without a doubt will be calling Julia FIRST. She's simply the VERY best!!! read more

I don't understand dogs. I love them, but I don't understand them. Humans are from Earth and dogs are from Pluto. How do I make my beloved German Shepherd not run out an opened door? How do I get her to sit...and stay seated? Not tug on the leash while on walks? Lie down? Stay in a room without roaming around? Potty training? All this and more, Julia had the fast and easy answer. Sure, work is involved but it's easy work. Julia instructs you how to train your dog in a way anyone can do it. My kids can train my dog because of Julia! Spend an hour with Julia and learn a lifetime of behavioral skills for your dog. Julia will prove you can teach an old person new tricks. :) read more

Thanks to Julia, we now have a dog who is able to be part of our family without any stress of him knocking over my children. I am now able to cook with him near me lying on the floor instead of jumping on me and enjoy our walks without having to stop every 5 feet. These are only a few of the many things I can now enjoy with the company of our new family member and I could not imagine it any other way! read more

Julia is a wonderful trainer. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience. One of the coolest things about her is that she explains things in a way that normal people can understand. She has a genuine love for dogs. I would recommend her to anyone in her area (Galt, Stockton, Sacramento) for dog training. She is GREAT!! read more

Julia and Javier gave me show wonderful assistance with an adult male pit pull that I am fostering. He has severe reactive issues to other dogs/cats/any animal and any new situation. They were able to give me the tools to not only control the dog but to teach him what behavior is acceptable. The best part is that the advice is very humane but firm, and will ultimately lead to a better life for this dog as he becomes more acceptable of the environment around him. I would love to schedule another session! read more

Not only is Julia an expert in regards to dogs, she's a keenly astute observer and therapist for the owner as well. I can't say enough about her obviously sincere care involving our circumstances and the support that she offered us in a time of crisis. From my viewpoint, I think that you can have high expectations when you consult with her and you will conclude your experience with her by saying "Thank you Julia for another job best done." read more

My husband and I recently rescued a small standard Dalmatian. We named her Poke-A-Dot and she is an awesome addition to our spotted family. She had a couple of issues and I decided to search out a dog trainer to help us. I have gone to dog training classes in the past, and none of the instructors really made an impression on my mind, so I decided to search out a new one. Wow, I am sure glad I did!!! We found Julia who owns Coach for Canines. Poke-A-Dot bonded with her on day one. We signed up for a package which included six privates and six groups. The training for Poke-A-Dot was beyond anything that I had expected to receive. Over the course of six weeks, Poke learned how to heal on a leash, walk on a leash without pulling me along, sit & stay, down & stay and how not to jump up on people. However, and very importantly I learned the proper techniques to teach all of these things to Poke. I really wish I would have meet Julia a lot sooner, but I am so glad she has had a positive influence on Poke and I. If you are looking for a dog trainer who really cares about dogs, Julia is your gal. read more

I can honestly say Julia understands me and my dog! When i first met her my German Shepherd chased my horses, would not listen off leash, was never allowed inside, the list goes on. After my first lesson with Julia I could already see the difference in my relationship with Ziggy -- for the better! Six weeks later I no longer fear what will happen if a horse got loose. We still have a lot to learn. It's never easy but Julia explains things (in my case over and over) with an endless patients. She is very understanding, always used positive reinforcement for both me and my dog. I will happily RAVE about Ms. Priest and her abilities for dog training. She is worth every penny and then some. I would not recommend anyone else for dog training, regardless if its obedience, agility, herding, or behavior. Excellent dog trainer, superb individual, so easy to talk to. She's just wonderful! read more

Julia was recommended to us by a volunteer at German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California as a trainer who "gets it done". I visited her with my one-year-old rescue GSD, Sharpe, who has not had much training or socialization. We spent a little over an hour working on loose leash walking, and I came home with a vastly improved walking partner and a clear idea of how to continue to improve. We have plenty more to learn and will be visiting Julia together again. She is a smart, no-nonsense and compassionate teacher with a very obvious deep love for dogs. Thanks, Julia! read more

Julia is a wonderful, knowledgeable, and generous coach who can help first time dog owners and people interested in a variety of dog sports. Her training area is beautiful with shady trees for dogs and people. She is an experienced and versatile trainer who deserves many more stars than five. I have used Julia's training help and advice for three of my dogs over the past few years.
