I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. (Braughing village is famous for, among other things, the delicious local sausages, and this is a good place to sample them.) Did I mention the pies? A different pie every day it seems, and you won't find better pies than these. I don't make a statement like that lightly.

There are three real ales - one guest local ale (currently Tring Blonde). Also Greene King London Glory and IPA. The quality of the food is as good as a posh London restaurant, the fish & chips (triple cooked chips!) is a favourite, as is the flatbread pizza, the Candlestick burger and the beef & ale pie. The puddings are something to die for, highly recommend the cheesecake. As for the staff, I have not found another pub that has staff this accommodating and friendly, nothing is to much trouble for them, if something you want is not on the menu, they will try to accommodate your needs. The pub is an old coaching house it has a large bar area split by a fantastic open fire that is lit during the colder periods giving it that real country pub atmosphere. It has some big round tables in this area that can seat 6-8 people, ideal for having a chat and a drink with friends, it also has some soft sofas for lounging around on. They have a defined restaurant area, which is set to the side and tastefully decorated. I believe they also do B&B so an ideal location to stay if you like your country walks. All in all this is a lovely pub, give it a try if you are in the area.

So many pubs have become total restaurants and don't think about those of us that like to have just a drink and chat. Nice area outside for the Spring and Summer months when, and if, they arrive. After everyone had arrived we were shown to our table. Unusually an oval table which allowed everyone to see, and speak, to each other. Service was brilliant by a few servers, all very professional yet friendly. We never felt rushed and service was given at a pace which allowed us all to enjoy the food. As for the food. We all had their Sunday roasts of Beef and Turkey. Totally delicious and very filling. Followed by various desserts. HINT, try their ice cream and let them choose which flavours. Very, very tasty and palate cleansing. All in all a fantastic visit and we all would recommend this great pub/restaurant.

The staff are always friendly, professional and helpful. The food is always amazing quality from rolls at lunch to the best chicken pie in the evening. We turned up without a booking just wanting a summer time drink but when we asked if we could possibly have a table they managed to fit us in. During lockdown we visited several times. Everything was really professional. We felt extremely safe but none of the enjoyable experience was compromised.

My piece of salmon was huge but was beautifully cooked and tasted wonderful. The portion sizes were good so much so my cousin couldn't finish everything on his plate! There wasn't a big choice of desserts (I wasn't tempted but had a pot of filter coffee instead). It was nice food, well cooked and presented and we felt it wasn't bad value for £25 per head. First of all, there are 5 or 6 veggie options on the menu, which is a rarity. Some of their options are a mushroom stroganoff, vegetables au gratin, ploughman's sandwich, and a mediterranean pasta. My husband had veggie lasagna which was served with chips and salad. I had vegetables au gratin - broccoli, carrots, aubergines (eggplant to my american friends), bell peppers and onions, drowning in a rich cheese sauce topped with breadcrumbs. Heaven in a bowl!! There was a lovely salad on the side along with a generous portion of coleslaw. There's a nice selection of homemade desserts as well, which seem to change every week. We sampled the almond cheesecake which was amazingly delish. Aside from excellent food, there is good selection of beers. The manager is a super friendly guy who remembers us every time and always stops to have a chat. There's a cool layout with the bar in the entrance and two rooms off to either side. There's plenty of room for groups, however it's still small enough to feel cozy. Lots of outdoor seating as well. The White Hart is now a weekly trip for us!
