Ordering a particular red wine - "No sorry, we don't have that I'm afraid". Ordering a different one "No sorry, don't think we have it". Can I perhaps ask you to check please, maybe you do have it? I got the shrugging shoulder.... OK, well then just a sparkling water for me then I guess.... Four drinks + one sandwich = +£30. I think The Lord Stanley is A-OK if you just bear in mind to look passed the 'fancieness' they'd like to portray and consider it to be just 'a pub' and be prepared to pay more than you expect. However, most of the fish pieces weren't actually too edible. The center parts of two of the pieces were good - flaky white fish and a light crispy batter. The ends of those pieces as well as the whole third piece barely had any fish at all, and was just overfried thick batter alone. We also didn't get any malt vinegar. However, I will say I didn't ask for that specifically (assuming it would come with it). Tartar sauce was ok but would have preferred the vinegar. Rounding up to 3 stars because the bits that did have fish were good, even if not a lot of it, and chips were decent (would've been better with malt vinegar). Can get much better fish and chips that are more authentic for a lower price elsewhere.

I think what they're trying to do kind of misses the mark. Focus group your menu, I hate to be negative but this needs a lot of feedback. I get the impression they're still testing things out with the new owner to find what works but in the meantime, a watery mac & cheese... well, I can't. I kind of want to be like, look, there's so many places to draw inspiration from in London if you want to be the pub that does good mac... and take them on a food adventure around town so they can see what I mean when I say I love a good mac & cheese. He didn't care. One of the nastiest people I have ever met. - So we left and went to the Crown Inn in Farnham Common which is so much better.

The only thing I didn't manage to find was a salad. However there's plenty to satisfy all tastes - vegetarian food, burgers, fish and chips, steak, chicken, bangers and mash... delicious. Came here with a group of 6, for Sunday roast (when all other restaurants in the area were completed booked and had no reservations available as of the day before)... we each had a different roast option and were very happy. Not amazing, but not as doused or overcooked as some of the Sunday roasts I've had elsewhere. Kid friendly. Dog friendly. A little more calm than some of the nearby pubs that are overflowing and noisy. Open, light, more airy and clean than some pubs. 4 stars for being one of the better pub experiences/vibes, good menu selection, nice ambiance and based on the fact that I will return here for a meal.
