The Co-Op always reminds me of shopping as a kid. I can remember the existence of Co-Op (or Coop as I used to refer to it) since before the dawn and subsequent dominance of ASDA and Tesco. They were always humble affairs and what I pretty much based all of my supermarket experiences on.
You often find that since ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's and to a lesser extent, Waitrose have taken over the supermarket baton, smaller, cheaper outlets like the Co-Op are left looking bare and outdated in comparison. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see this particular branch on the rather grim Blatchington Road in Hove is modern, clean, well stocked and something I don't usually notice: really well lit. I would even go as far as to say there is a moody ambience in the Co-Op, with the gorgeous colours of the fruit and veg and all the brightly packaged products making this store look nicer than the mega Tesco nearby.
Don't call it a comeback, but this is a little gem! read more
