We were treated to lunch yesterday at MidMichigan Medical center by Nagel's. The recent flooding…read morehas rendered our cafeteria in-operable and thus food trucks were invited in to feed staff. The Nagel's workers were were so kind to us, there must have been five or six of them and they were very organized. To feed a group of our size, they did a really good job. They were frying the corn dogs and fries to order so they were good and hot. They also had sausage and onions/peppers and burgers. My coworker and I opted for sausages and fries and they were delicious! Perfect! And, when we attempted to pay they told us not to worry about it. We assumed the hospital had paid for our meals, but when we asked later in the afternoon it turns out that Nagel's donated ALL of the meals. We have a large medical center....I can't imagine what that cost them. Thanks again for a fun and delicious lunch!!

The trucks were there, but not ready for service/open. We hired them to be open and serving from 11am-3pm, with our hundreds of employees reliant on getting their food at certain times, including early on (around 11am) so that they could return to work. Several employees and their families came and left without food. The hot dog stand was not open until around 12:45pm and the Elephant Ear truck was not open until after 1pm. When we asked them about their lateness around 12pm, they gave us the excuse of not realizing the time because of they didn't have a watch. They also complained about their "long drive" to our site. Less than an hour after they finally opened, they ran out of hamburgers and french fries. The pop was warm because they didn't refrigerate it or have it on ice. The workers didn't use gloves, and were handling the buns, sausages, and elephant ears, etc. with their hands the entire time. In addition to all of this, the food was nothing special. There were complaints of corn dogs still being doughy, and the hot dogs looked and tasted microwaved and were served on plain buns. This whole experience was very frustrating and upsetting. Needless to say, we won't be hiring them again, nor do we recommend anyone else to do so.

When I heard Shimmy Shack had a pre-grand opening that was advertised on VegMichigan, I decided to…read morestop by and see how the food was. I ordered simply the Classic Burger along with Chili Fries. (As always when trying a new place, I have a deer in headlights moment when I'm overwhelmed with what to order or I'm caught between two items and can't decide! Argh!) The surprising thing was that after I ordered, the wait time was nearly non-existent. They brought out to me a few moments after my order. There was a lot of diligent young ladies working there and they seemed to be efficient and the cashier was kind and friendly. Upon receiving my paper wrapped burger I was a little disappointed with the size of the burger, it was the size of a orange and it reminded me of an orange because of the rounded bun. The chili fries were a good size but if I'm paying $6 for it, I expected a little more portion-wise. The burger tasted good, and the chili fries too, but now that I think about it, perhaps I should've ordered the falafel pita or the Southwest Burger (but if it's the same size as the burger I ordered, I would reconsider.) I love the fact that everything is vegan, but for the price to portion ratio, the taste alone will not cut it for me. But Shimmy Shack gave a worthy effort. I wish them the best with their grand opening!
