I appreciate the fact that he doesn't pack his schedule with patients (even before Covid-19) so you never feel rushed and are able to receive the attention and care you need. I noticed that his office does not have any TVs. I feel that this allows you to have a more personal experience and helps you develop a trusting patient-dentist relationship. It also lets you maintain clear communication with Dr. Uchida without distractions during your visit. Another awesome thing I noticed was that he offers bamboo toothbrushes instead of plastic! An environmentally conscious dental office is a big plus for me. While often times dental visits can be associated with feelings of anxiety, fear, and stress, a visit with Dr. Uchida is everything but that. He is very patient and will thoroughly answer any questions or concerns you might have. He is a big believer in preventative oral health care. He is very involved in the dental community in Hawai'i and also finds time to volunteer in non-profit and federal government humanitarian dental missions in rural locations overseas. I suggest taking the time to read through their website before your first visit. There is a useful section where he discusses the role of parents in various dental appointments. Dr. Uchida also discusses his thoughts and approach on certain procedures such as the usage of fluoride and nitrous oxide. It clearly states that he will respect your preferences but it helps to know beforehand his opinion on certain topics and his expectations from parents in order to provide the best care for your child. When Luka was 2.5, he was too scared to go in by himself, so we weren't able to complete his cleaning. Our experience here was completely different, in the best way. Parking was easy, and parents can stay with young children throughout the visit. Dr. Mimi was wonderful, professional, and very patient with Luka. Auntie Lei was fun, incredibly patient and gentle, talking with Luka, comforting him, and making the cleaning feel safe and positive. The front desk staff and the X-ray team were also warm, welcoming, and patient. We especially loved the thoughtful little touches, like taking Luka's photo during his first visit and making a keepsake card for him. It truly felt like everyone here genuinely cares about each child and family. We left feeling so welcomed and cared for. But THIS PLACE and the people ...my daughter absolutely loved! She is 1 year and 2 months, and have 8 teeth. Dr. Ching recommends she see the dentist when she has 8 teeth so we scheduled an appt with Dr. Michelle Kobayashi. For the waiting area -- there's huge space for her to just walk around back and forth or sit and watch tv. She liked the fishes in the fish tank, and also the mural on the wall. She was over it though after 5 minutes, but that's just her. I was told to get there around 10:15 to fill out papers. By the time we were seen, it was 10:40. Not bad, I totally understand waiting in the doctors office and it usually takes awhile for people to fill out papers. My daughter and I loved the decor in here for the kids -- tissue paper balls hanging from the ceiling and just the pictures on the wall. Perfect for children and lighting was bright which just made me happy!! Stacey asked us questions while my curious little daughter walked all over the place in the room, and touched everything. Stacey was accommodating and understood the curiousness of a little child. Then Dr. Michelle Kobayashi came in! She is SOOOO nice and super informative about what certain things to look for as far as signs of cavities, how to brush, when to brush, when she should snack, etc. She uses pictures and illustrations too! When it came to examining my daughters first teeth, my daughter did awesome I was so surprised!! My daughter usually doesn't like me brushing her teeth, but Stacey and Michelle did an awesome job making her feel comfortable, and opening up her mouth on command! She was able to see everything she needed to see! Then they let her get familiar around all the equipment to get her use to it the next coming visits. Stacey was so amazing giving her cups to play with and letting her experience the equipment. Michelle reassured me and taught me a lot. I know toddlers can change moods and so she may not be this great next time I bring her, but I love their staff and look forward to bringing her there again!

Having no way to reach him, I shotgunned calls to other dentists in the East Honolulu area and fortunately Dr. Weiss could see me that day. She took very good care of the emergency I had. Since then, Dr. Weiss has been taking excellent care of all my dental needs for the past few years. She is very knowledgable and addresses my dental issues with a high degree of professionalism and expertise. I am very comfortable with her being my dentist from here on out. So much so that I have recommended multiple family members to her. The waiting room, dental hygienist, and procedure rooms are all clean and much more modern than my prior dentist. Appointments have been on time and the front desk staff have always been nice to me. Also nice about this place is that they are located in the Kahala Mall professional building where there is ample free parking around the building and the mall. I dont know if Dr. Weiss is taking new patients at this time, but if she is and you are looking for a dentist, I strongly recommend giving her a try.

Dr. Nip and his staff are very competent and professional. For new patients, they require a consultation and X-ray before making a tooth cleaning appointment. For any special procedures ie. Root canal, they refer you to other specialists. There's parking available in the structure with validation available. They are off on weekends and Wednesdays.
