If you need clothing altered, talk to Pamela! She does all sorts of alterations, and is very reasonably priced. She's hemmed several pants for me. Also the toys/clothing etc. for kids are competitively priced. Found it cheaper online? Ask if they can match the price, and also remember if you have a problem with an item, a question, etc., having a store to go to is incredible. No ai chat bots, just people who know from real experience. You can never beat that. Now the story side. I started coming here when my son was born 4 years ago. That's what me got in the door, needing early development toys and books etc. I never imagined I would get to watch the store grow to carry fabric and sewing accessories too, but it made sense because Pamela does clothing alterations. The entire staff has been so welcoming, informative, and thoughtful, it keeps me coming back for whatever I may need. You can't beat community. Going into a kids toy store where the people KNOW your kid, what you already have from them, how you could expand on that. Incredible. The other thing that I love is they only seem to carry the quality stuff. No one and done junk toys, but good stuff from good brands, like Melissa and Doug, while also having some funky and fun new stuff. That's my review! She has unique vintage items, a long with her unique art from taxidermy to book binding & everything in-between. My personal favorite is looking at the odd cards & postcards you won't find at the souvenir shops. She even makes her own "Fool Crow" designs and sometimes she makes them with collages. These coins are double and triple stamped. Multiple errors on my coins. She then says "he will look at them for you". The guy grabs one and says, they are all common. Yeah, maybe but not that common. According to the Events Calendar, the store is CLOSED every weekday, except Friday, when it's open Noon-6pm. Oh, but not on Sept. 26, when it's CLOSED. Open Sat/Sun from 10:30am-5:00, but not on Sept 27-28, when it's CLOSED. Five classes are offered during this month, all of them on days the store is closed. So how is it that they're celebrating its 4-year anniversary? How much business is this store pulling in? By the way, did I mention they don't charge sales tax here? But to make up for it, the prices seem a little steep, even by scrapbooking standards. If you're looking for stickers, this place has lots of 'em. If you're looking for anything wedding-related, this place does not have 'em. At all. 12x12 paper is plentiful here, but a pain to look through, because they're displayed several layers deep per paper tray. Katie's provided tabs to separate the different patterns, and also has them separated by category (sports, beach, etc), but it's still very time consuming to look at all of it, especially if you're like me and don't go in with anything particular in mind. This is a great place for Disney stuff; LOTS of character stuff I hadn't seen before, and even Hannah Montana-type stuff. And don't forget to check out the side room for sale/clearance items. I really take exception to the review written by Patty W. !…read more I think she happened on the store, made her judgements by exterior appearances (which really aren't bad but aren't "BAY AREA"), and never talked to Katie once she entered the store. Had Patty done that and asked questions, she may have learned why the hours are set as they are (this is the owner's avocation not her vocation) , why classes are scheduled when the store is closed (most of her customers cannot do day classes...evenings are good for them). As to Patty's comments about pricing...I am astounded! I find the prices better, in most cases, than even the "big box" stores like Joann's or Michaels. And certainly better than any of the other "local" (Elk Grove/Sacramento) stores. Not sure where Patty shops for her supplies-only on sale at Joann's with their limited supply? Moving on to paper...Katie's World's selection and variety is beyond amazing! But the space IS finite and so the paper has to be stacked with tabs by category or the store would have to be HUGE! I have sent people there looking for scrap booking paper for skydiving that they couldn't find anyplace else. Katie's has a phenomenal selection of state/country paper and I have referred folk there just for that for their post-vacation scrapbooks . And wedding paper and embellishments? Well, once again, Patty didn't take the time to ask where or if. I travel a lot and have been to scrapbook stores from California to Massachusetts and in between. I have yet to be in a store that has the overall selection of paper, embellishments and tools that Katie's World has. I may have been in stores that seem a bit better organized until I start looking around and realize that I've somehow gone from pets to baby and tools and back and cannot find what I saw during my first pass through. And then I try to find someone to ask. Therein lies the key to visiting a new store...Ask! If you are a scrapbooker or a paper-holic like me and are in the area, I would recommend stopping. I am always amazed at how many long-time residents of Sacramento have not heard of Locke, and when they do hear about it, well... It's only a 30 min drive from downtown Sac, 15-20 if you take the 99 and exit off of Twin Cities but SEEKER shop is only open on the weekends last time I checked. Definitely call ahead before you go. If you are supremely freaky for old stuff and history you will love the holy crap outta this place and will want to visit at least once a month.
