If you're new to a sound bath, I'd suggest an intro membership when offered or see if you can sign up for a single 60 minute session during one of the weekly Monday sessions. When you arrive, you are greeted by welcoming staff or maybe even the owner, Susan. Anyone would help you to get comfortable and explain what to expect just let them know you're new. Yesterday's special session was a 90 minute session and I'd say the actual time with the instruments was about 80 minutes with a very helpful and nice introduction on what we were about to experience & how it affects the body, mind and spirit. Over 20 instruments were at the two ladies who played them throughout the session, and even are utilized while walking around the room. My favorite are the sochi chimes. Reminds me of being at the beach, bringing such a peaceful feeling & memories. If you've never been, plan to experience a peaceful and almost meditative experience. Basically plan to lay on a mat, I bring mine and utilize the provided blankets, pillows & yoga blocks to cushion my back & prop my knees up with the pillows/yoga blocks for lower back comfort. Dress however you feel most comfortable, sweatpants, yoga gear, however you want to lay on the floor to rest. You may get chilly when your BP reduces, grab an extra blanket from the shelf just in case. I didn't bring an eye mask this time, which I regret not having as I find it easiest to get to another place when all light is blocked. Some fall asleep as this truly is a remarkable way to relax. Some experience nothing and others can reach almost an out of body experience, all depends on how easily you allow yourself to give in to the experience. First timers, don't expect full immersion, but go with an open mind. Highly recommend for stress relief. Thrive Yoga studio is a very inviting space with a wonderful fountain in the hallway that you can hear in the background during your sessions. They have a water dispenser for your convenience, and after some special sessions, even light refreshments are served. As you enter the studio, which is located in a lower level space, you come into a small store with the counter to check in set away from the doorway. Several studios are in the back along with restrooms and cubby areas for your shoes as no shoes in the studio are preferred, and they have space for your belongings. Everyone there is very nice and helpful. They have several type of class offerings as well as buying different types of membership depending on your needs.

We would start with introduction to all of the mom's and how the feel during their pregnancy. It helped all of the Yogi's get to know each other and share tips on coping with any pain during pregnancy, and talk about experiences especially for new moms like me. Spirit makes sure that each excercise is geared toward anyones pain and gives us modified positions based on everyone's experience level. I took the class every week up to my 39th week which really helped with inducing my baby for the big day. My main goal was to go into labor naturally without epidural and the breathing techniques, Spirit sharing her encouragement and other students common experiences really helped me have my labor naturally without epidural. I labored in the hospital for 8hrs with 1.5 hrs of pushing. One recommendation would be the class timing, I would prefer earlier classes if they become available in the future. Definitely looking forward to the mommy and baby classes!

It's a small room so be sure to sign up for the classes online or using their app! We had maybe 10 people and I felt crowded. I was told they'll accept maybe 20-25 people though I don't know where they'll go to fit comfortably! I found this place from a friend and because I got a groupon deal with her. Started off in a beginners class by Dawna. She was great! Super attentive, explained everything in detail and made you feel welcomed. I learned so much even though this wasn't my first time! She corrected my basic poses and it will help me for future classes! I'll definitely be here again and step up my game! They have a ton of different levels offered and convenient times! I can't wait to meet other instructors or even stick to the same! If she teaches a higher level.

The owner, Laurel, runs the business as more of a community, getting to each and every student on a personal level. You will truly feel attached to this amazing studio and more importantly, feel able to easily connect with the other students and teachers. Laurel is a brilliant teacher, teaching the most amazing iyengar yoga that I've ever been to. She reaches far to all by including classes of specific levels, such as gentle classes, for a more low profile stretch with low impact on joints etc, or classes such as her teens yoga group in which she includes teens from a wide variety of schools. She even hosts events and creates events such as taking the teens yoga group to India over the summer. Laurel's teaching skills and years of practice are carried over into each and every one of her outstanding teachers. Each teacher has a focus and style of yoga that they teach but they wonderfully exceed my expectations and teach classes that make you want to come back ever single day. Sweetbay Yoga is filled with caring and lovable people and Laurel has created a community unlike anything else. This quaint yoga studio cares greatly about costumer service and Laurel is available at almost every hour of the day to help anyone who wants more information or needs help for anything. I've been to other bigger and franchised yoga studios and could never imagine going back now. After starting yoga classes at Sweetbay 4 years ago, the idea of a yoga studio was pleasantly redefined for me, showing me how the studio can give me a wonderful community and classes, something I never felt from the franchised yoga studios. I love everything about Sweetbay and the people who make it what it is today. Thank you Sweetbay!!

You close your eyes and hear birds chirping around you, breathe in the fresh air, and hear running water from a fountain. You open your eyes and see a beautiful garden with colorful flowers and herbs, not to mention the entire place being surrounded by trees. You can't ask for anything better when you're really in the middle of the city. And to top it all off, the class sizes are small so you get a lot of personal attention. We all deserve to escape to a secret garden in the middle of our busy schedules. Check this place out :).

She went at a good pace for people of all levels, and offered us assistance if we wanted to try more advanced variations. They provide mats, blocks, straps, and blankets so you don't have to worry about bringing anything. The best part about this class is that it's outside in one of the most beautiful gardens I've seen. Seeing as it's located right in the middle of Rockville, it's hard to believe such a peaceful place could exist here, but once you walk through the door it's like stepping into Narnia. Instead of having music playing, we had a natural soundtrack of bird songs and water flowing from the pond. We even got a mini concert from a cardinal that was on a tree.

I loved this class, this teacher, the other students, and the setting!…read more My friend Rita recommended Shelly's "gentle yoga" classes to me. I had only a short time to practice before leaving the area. However, in 5 one-hour-and-a-half sessions, I experienced the beginnings of a deep release in both body and mind. It was a truly wonderful (incremental) experience. I was very sorry to have to leave. Shelly is very organized, very pedantic. She has the knack of being so in such an accepting but no-nonsense manner --and with such good will-- that working on a pose with her (and the breathing associated with it) happens with absolutely no angst, no stress. This ensures growth and progress. Shelly's classes were well-thought-out, very organized --- a progression from easy stretches to somewhat more difficult abs, leg, and foot and toe work, on to balance poses and finally to a total body stretch that is followed by deep relaxation at the end of each session. Shelly is a patient but eagle-eyed instructor. . Her organized approach in each session (which I understand evolve as students assimilate the poses) allowed me to develop a practice I could take with me when I left. (A great gift!) I highly recommend the meditative ambiance of the environment, the non-intrusive acceptance and goodwill of the other students and the personal attention to the pose's form and breathing requirements as taught by Shelly. I found it to be a truly special and exceptional experience. She inspired me. I cannot wait to go back and pick up where I left off. Kudos and many many thanks.
