So. I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews. I usually give any business the benefit of the…read moredoubt and also give them a chance to make things right. But that did not just happen. So I called to cancel my Hotworx membership about 4-6 months ago. At that time I was told that it would cost a large fee to cancel the membership, so as a courtesy, they would just put my account on hold or "freeze" with no fee. I was also told on the phone that I could call back when I wanted to "unfreeze" the account. Great. However.... My "membership" was a direct withdrawal from my bank account, and (my bad) I didn't notice that for some reason it was "unfrozen" 3 months ago, at a rate of $59 a month. When I called today to speak with them, they said if I wanted to cancel, it would be $99. This is in ADDITION to the $180 they collected for the last 3 months for turning my account back on. $280 for a mistake that they made. After speaking to 2 individuals (I'm assuming the 2 women who own the store), they said that they would do me a courtesy of canceling my membership for "free", but they would not remove the 3 months of fees. When they turned my membership back on, they did not inform me by email, voicemail, or text. So I was not aware it was back on. They said that, per their contract (that my husband signed, as it was a gift) they did not need to notify me. When I asked why it was turned back on without my permission, they said that this was in the paperwork i signed to freeze the account. I said I called on the phone to cancel, and the woman said that she would freeze for free and I could call back when i wanted to come back. She said I must have been misinformed on the phone, but again referred back to the fine print of the original contract. So, she said I was misinformed on the phone, but still charged for 3 months with absolutely no notification (other than my bank statement), and given this fact, they still would not work with me (other than waiving a $99 fee to cancel). I really thought these women were running a great business there. I enjoyed going there when I got the membership. But this business practice really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've been a loyal Orangetheory member for years and truly love the workouts. I wanted to share a…read morequick PSA for anyone visiting the Hilton Head Island (HHI) location--especially since many people vacation here and may want to keep up their fitness routine. Unlike other studios I've visited across the country--from New England to Iowa to Florida--this location ASSIGNS your starting station. At every other studio, it's always been first come, first served. I've tested this workout in every variation, and I personally get the best results when I start on the treadmill. That's why I got up early on my day off, drove 15 minutes to the studio, and arrived 15 minutes ahead of class--only to be surprised that I was starting on the floor. When I asked to change, they would not allow it. It is worth mentioning that I have been to this studio a few years ago and that was not their policy then so it appears to be a more recent change. I contacted the studio manager and was told that they prioritize local members' preferences due to the high number of visitors. While I can understand wanting to accommodate regular members, I was disappointed this policy wasn't communicated up front. I had to book over the phone due to a glitch in the app, and no one mentioned it. Visitors pay for classes just like regulars and deserve the same experience. If I show up late, that's on me--but in this case, I did everything right and still didn't get the workout I planned for. To offer some perspective, I frequently attend OTF studios in Orlando, which sees over 75 MILLION visitors a year--so I am sure their studios get far more visitors - and they do not assign stations in this way. Everyone gets the same fair shot to start where they want. For my second class reserved at HHI location, I noted my preference to start on the treadmill, and while I appreciated that the studio called me 30 minutes before class to let me know they couldn't honor that, so I chose to cancel instead. This assignment policy appears unique to the HHI location. Just as local members have preferences, so do visiting members--so I'd encourage anyone booking here to be aware of this in advance. It really should be communicated on their website so hopefully this is a good PSA. Otherwise I will say I found the studio to be clean but just a frustrating experience that could have been avoided.

To start, Mira and Abi are both wonderful at managing the office and helping the customer (me) with pretty much anything I ever needed. On top of this, coach Chris and Lexi are SOOOO fantastic and I have never enjoyed working out more or looked forward to waking up at an ungodly hour like I did on their coaching days. It felt very much like a community rather than a gym and that was great for someone looking to motivate themself like I was. This was my first orange theory experience and safe to say it has set a very high standard. I hated to leave it when we moved but it was integral to my fitness journey still today.
