While staying in the Renaissance Hotel, I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood only to discover Clouds. The restaurant looked appealing as I strolled through the Kreis 5 neighborhood so i got on the elevator and went to the 35th floor where the Clouds restaurant is located. With panoramic views and a semi-elegant ambiance, Clouds looked like a reasonable choice for the evening. The views are of a modern trendy bohemian neighborhood which was once an industrial complex complete with warehouses. After having a cocktail at the separate bar location, I proceeded to the dining area. Think 16 to 24 CHF for a cocktail. The bar offered a full range of cocktails. The menu is eclectic and according to my smart phone, Catalonian inspired by Chef David Martinez Salvany. The menu also features local and international dishes. Loosely interpreted, I would have to concede that it is an accurate description. They have starters and I choose the beef tartar with caviar on top. For the main course I choose the Angus Beef medium rare. Beef throughout Switzerland seems to command a premium price, at Clouds it cost 65 CHF. For what ever reason it takes a long time to be served according to my time expectations. On the bright side, it allows you to enjoy the view longer. For dessert I was contemplating having the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The presentation was worthy of a 5 Star restaurant and tasted just as satisfying. The food was enjoyable, the service begged for more training and the prices were Swiss prices which more often than not shock Americans. . For a three course dinner for one, think 100-150 CHF. In summary, a 3.5 Star rating was probably more appropriate. read more

This is for the Bistro. A top of Prime Tower, a casual spot for a panoramic view of Zürich. We lucked out with a clear shot of the Alps. We had the Caesar salad. The lack of Parmesan cheese was offset by a large portion of chicken and a strip of bacon. The dressing was perfect. The tarte with bacon was crispy flatbread with cubes of tasty lardons, cheese and onions. The cocktails were excellent. There was no rush and service attentive. read more

My friend recommended this bar for a nice view of Zurich from the top of the Prime Tower. It was quite crowded when we went on a Friday night, but there was a lot of turnover, so we got a place to sit after we ordered at the bar. Despite the jokes about the Prime Tower being the tallest building in Switzerland (which pales in comparison to skyscrapers in L.A. or any other major city), the view IS quite pretty, especially overlooking the train tracks at night. The view from the 35th floor is nothing to scoff at. ;) The drinks menu is quite extensive and almost overwhelming to look at. The drinks are kind of pricey, too. I got the Huckelberry Finn (Raspberry infused rum, blackberries, cranberry juice, lime juice, chestnut syrup), and my friend got the Georgia Mint Julep (Cognac, apricot liqueur, mint, sugar syrup, angostura bitter). Each drink cost CHF 19. I really liked my drink. Sweet and fruity, it came in a huge glass topped with 3 luscious blackberries. Apparently this is the highest dining point (in stories, not elevation) you can dine in while in Switzerland. The elevator doesn't stop: you're going all the way up or down. Restaurant is on the 36th floor. Service was amazing. Waitress steered me clear of getting kidneys in my dish which was a nice call since I'm not a fan of organ meat. I had the pumpkin with goat cheese starter. Was nice. Main entree was veal over potatoes with cream sauce. Was really good but a bit heavy. Dessert was chestnut vermicelli. Not a fan of chestnuts but was worth trying since that dessert is a local specialty. Overall a great place if you have the pockets for it, since it's on the pricey side. read more

If I hadn't come here with a friend (Simoooon!!!) I would have been wonderfully confused, just because this place is so nice and I would have probably thought I'd need to be some millionaire with a special membership or something. But don't be intimidated! When you first walk in they ask you if you want to leave your coat, and around the corner is the elevator. Everything is chic and pretty! The elevator just has two buttons, which I thought was funny, but I guess that makes it easy right? We got up quickly and you can choose either the cafe/bar or the restaurant. Clouds has a fantastic view. You're higher than anyone else in Zurich! You can see everything on a clear day and it's so entertaining to just sit and watch! The drinks are pricey, but they are everywhere. The chai tee was around 6CHF I think. I'd love to come back here again at night when all the lights are on, it would be beautiful. I found great reviews for this restaurant online. We went there on our first night and were not disappointed. We all ordered different dishes and all were very happy. I had the beef tenderloin and the salad. The salad was a French mustard dressing. It was very mild and great! My sister had a lobster linguini dish and enjoyed it. My father had the rack of lamb. He started the meal with the tomato bisk soup. My mother had scallops. The views of the city are great and the food is equally great. I'd recommend and will go back. read more

What's surprised me is that in the country, where cleanness is a big thing, in the middle of Zurich spouse to a 5-star restaurant where everything should be spick and span all seeling glass decorations is completely covered with dust, even at the entrance. The menu card was too poor almost nothing to choose from. Lobster bisk was uneatable and I am a fish eater. The chef's complimentary snack was too simple. I had SO much expectation about this bar. Trendy, classy, offers an AMAZING view... They actually have everything to be nothing but perfection. But what happened? I went there and took a look at the drinks menu and decided to pick the most girly drink I found because I have kind of a fascination regarding how bars attract through presentation. Therefore, "ABSOLUT Shopping Queen" was my choice. I must say I wasn't disappointed in presentation terms, but taste? I really can't talk about food in this review, but I can do so for drinks and I had 2 of them. When they point out a bar at a rooftop and you pay the price of excellence, you are expecting for the whole experience to be perfect. Summary: esthetic, atmosphere, view, presentation -- AWESOME, drink's taste -- you need to work on this guys, you certainly have the potential to become a 5 star bar. read more

Disclaimer: for the fine dining side. Nice view, good wine list, solid presentation, and on-point service. Food, sadly, was like a higher-end experience of most of the food we had in Switzerland: expensive and quite good in quality, but completely forgettable. The price premium for fine dining is actually very, VERY reasonable all things considered (aka, a regular meal at an average restaurant here is expensive!)... but we still left unimpressed. Rice chip was great in theory and solid in execution, but as someone who grew up with these, a single rice chip has to do a lot to impress. This failed to do so. The beef tartare atop bone marrow is a brilliant idea let down by the fact that the two do not enhance each other particularly well, and the veal, while very good, isn't unique enough to be memorable. It's a quality experience but not one of note. read more

Updated: To confirm the consistency of this restaurant, I took a foodie friend to eat here on Monday 24 August. Unfortunately we were made to wait for half an hour despite having a reservation, whilst a fire alarm was ongoing. Despite being told that there was a fire alarm ongoing, all three employees at bag check were misusing some access key to circumvent the people elevator block and were using a freight elevator to send 50-60 people up to the Clouds restaurant and bar. Others who had arrived earlier were made to wait in terrible heat in the bag check area, and directed towards people elevators that were clearly taking a long time to work and seemed to be malfunctioning. The attitude of the bag check ladies was condescending, non-chalent and carefree at all times. The fire alarm was clearly not bothering them. Despite the fire alarm, at no time was Clouds management available, in person or by phone. This restaurant clearly ignores fire regulations and is to be avoided from now onwards. The positive experience the previous evening was absolutely destroyed, this blogger's opinion is that Clouds goes from 5 stars to 1 star for treating their guests like charcoal. read more

Brilliant. Ok, it's expensive. Ok, it's busy. Ok, it's just like Jules Verne (but higher). However, the cocktails are very nice. The service is friendly and smiley (and yes, you must appreciate they are busy). Then, there is restaurant. Food getting close to a Michelin star. Service was lovely. Friendly, smiley, quite efficient. But sorry to say not Michelin star. Then again, it's a busy place doing a lot of covers. That said; we had a window seat and lovely waitress. And a totally brilliant time. The bill. Not cheap. Worth it. Absolutely. Overall, a great experience. We'll be back I'm sure. read more

I never understood what's the big fuss about this place. Apart from the view, the food is extremely overpriced and really not all that impressive (trying way too hard to justify the prices with their presentation yet somewhat forgetting about the quality of the taste itself). I still haven't tried the bistro yet and will definitely check it out. To sum it up don't expect much from the food, you go there to enjoy the view (which I have to say is quiet nice). However Zurich offers much better high end restaurants that are more worth trying if you want that "wow" food experience. read more

I strongly recommend this bar. It is literally in the clouds as the highest building in Zurich. You get a great view of this city and the faroff mountains. And while you're perusing the outdoor sights, you can also enjoy a fine cocktail. They offer wines, spritzes, cocktails, and bar snacks. With their variety of seating options, Clouds is a great place to impress a business client, hang out with a group of friends, or spend a special moment. Notes: the entrance is around the back. The entrance is separate from the tower main- so walk around the corner and look for the name. If you want food, I'd recommend you reserve your spot. But just for drinks is easy: grab the lift and come on up! Tasty (pricey) food, and an extra (free) starter. The waitstaff are fab- couldn't try any harder. Trashy bar, high up in the clouds... I went to the bar a week ago. You first have to wait on the second floor before there is enough space up in the bar. Once we arrived at the bar I was actually suprised... The self looks cool, bit New York style. But they were playing live music. I didn't have problems with the music, but it was a bit cheap. The place can do much more then this ordinary live music band... The service was very slow. It took them 25 min to bring us normal drinks (not even cocktails), and it is not the cheapest beer in town. The staff was friendly... Now what was the most anoying thing: trashy people all over !!!! Serieusly, half of the men just came here with their girlffriends. I had the impression the girlfriends were like little dogs following there owner.... Sad to see. Anyway. We went up on a slow Zurich night and the place was pretty empty. The view from the top is just "okay". If it was facing the other direction towards the lake, it would have been better. Our drinks were okay, nothing especially noteworthy. It was nice to try and spend a little time on the tallest floor in the tallest building in Zurich, but I wouldn't come back. read more

The service was great, clearly very well trained staff. Went there for brunch, and am sorry to say, for the 75 franks excluding drinks, it was not worth it. The "warm" meat was cold, the Eggs Benedict was cold (???). The Cappuccino was the volume of an espresso and cost 6.50... Honestly the quality of brunch was a four star hotel breakfast level and not worth the price. The food quality at clouds is nowhere near as good as the Belvoir, and at the Belvoir the champagne is included. Not one star because the view is indeed fantastic. read more

But on this Saturday night, the bar was packed with agglo people (= the non-Zurich people): The place is nice but the audience made it look run-down and sad. This impression was reinforced by the pathetic music combo, playing cheesy tunes. I felt like in a scene from the 90s (think: Ally McBeal!). I came here to celebrate my husbands birthday as I had heard a lot about this place. The atmosphere and the view from the restaurant was perfect. The service was great, especially as I am usually disappointed with the level of service in Zurich. Unfortunately we weren't that hungry so we just had a main dish which we both really enjoyed. They have a nice range of drinks (e.g. Japanese whiskey), but for the prices they charge you should be able to have bar keepers, who are capable of following special wishes. First things first: I am not a Yelper. Nor am I someone who takes advice on Trip Advisor when I travel. My husband and I do extensive research through other outlets such as Instagram, food & travel blogs, or hotel and friend recommendations. And this is the introduction that I'm going to start off with on every single review I decide to do from my most recent Italian & Swiss trip. This review is about Clouds in Zürich. INCREDIBLE views of the entire city. The service, however, can be debated. Now, granted, I do not speak German. I speak English, Spanish, and French, but when my husband did the reservations months in advance for the place to simply have a drink before our dinner reservations at a Michelin restaurant, they (Hotel Baur au Lac, a pretty exclusive and luxury hotel in Zürich) confirmed a table for us. Maybe a few things got lost in translation, but all in all, Clouds knew to expect us and from where. We went to Clouds with a local friend of ours and were seated at a table by the window with incredible views. We ordered a bottle of Cristal for 230 CHF, and they pleasingly served us the champagne. We had also worked up an appetite, and decided to order an appetizer before we headed off to our Michelin dinner at Pavillon. The three of us orders a bowl of soup each. The server then came back and informed us that we could not order the soup if we did not order a main entrée. We asked if we could move to the bistro (bar) side and have our champagne, and order the soup. She said that is fine. We gave up a fabulous table by the window on the restaurant side, just so we can have our champagne and soup on the bistro side. When we get to the bistro side, we attempted to order the same soup, only to be told, that the menu (in the same kitchen) is different, and we could not have the soup. Never mind the fact that we have already had 2 double espressos, a bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of Cristal, and reservations on the other side 3 months ahead. None of that mattered. We are genuinely disappointed in the service that was given to great tourists paying good money for an incredible time in an incredible city. We travel to Europe twice a year and sometimes cancel Michelin reservations just to eat great local food whether it costs €1000 or €30. The way Clouds delivered their service is unacceptable. We willingly moved per their requirements for ordering, because we were told we can order what we desire on the other side, gave up a great table, only to be denied. This isn't about the soup. Dinner at Pavillon far surpassed Clouds on every level. This was about the principle and how they were not willing to accept the fact that a couple of sophisticated multi-lingual Americans with a local resident at their establishment wanting something outside of their box or rules were not granted with a level of service delivered back in the states, France, and especially Italy. read more

The hotel I was staying at recommended CLOUDS and it was fantastic--spectacular view, very friendly staff, delicious cuisine. We arrived in our tourist clothes after a long day and without a reservation, but they generously accommodated us. After ordering our main course, they brought us not only bread but also a plate of small appetizers, including fresh olives, ham and bruschetta. The filet of beef was perfection with a pesto on top. We ordered dessert and were given a small "dessert appetizer" before. Like everything else at CLOUDS, it was simply divine. read more
