I love it here! The ladies are super sweet and helpful and I almost ALWAYS find something I love and a great deal!

I had ordered take out for a nearby restaurant and needed to kill 45 minutes, so I stopped in just to see what they had on sale. It was a weird time of day so there wasn't really anyone else in there except one other customer who was trying stuff on. The clerk gave me a friendly greeting, asked if I needed any assistance and I let her know I'd just be browsing around. They did have a pretty good selection, I started in the sale section because I'm cheap (haha). I found several nice tops, that were new with tags, but each of them had a flaw of some sort. I don't hold this against Clothes Mentor, especially considering the fact that this is a consignment store AND that I was mostly looking at clearance items. I guess the part that bothered me a little is that some of the tags would say AS IS on them and some didn't. Maybe not every issue had come to their attention yet. So, just be careful. I found a shirt that was a great price, so decided to get it. When I went to check out the lady working was so bubbly and friendly. I actually enjoyed shopping there and left happy. So, even though Lee's Summit isn't a place I get to often, I wouldn't mind going back sometime in the future. read more

Don't bother trying to sell clothes here. I took in 3 containers of clothes and they bought one item - maybe 60 percent of the clothes still had price tags on them and the rest were barely worn. I should have known from looking around the store - most of the items looked like your basic thrift store stuff. Not trendy or in good condition. It was also pretty obvious that they didn't actually go through the clothes based on the bins when I picked them up. There were 200 dollar designer jeans in the mix - with tags - but not good enough for this store? I don't get it. Also - when I walked in the woman was like "you know that we take women's business casual right?" In a sort of condescending way. I guess that the nice slacks and suits in my bins don't fit the bill - but the mom jeans they had on display do? Funny. They gave me 9 dollars for the one dress they did buy, which wasn't as nice as a lot of the stuff. read more

Don't go in there at all. Its filthy in there bags and bags of clothes on the floor . It smell horrible in there. It has a new owner and clearly she's excepting dirty clothes. I was looking for jackets now i itch my eyes are puffy. There is young kids working there. The whole store is trashy. They need to be closed down. read more

I've always walked right past Clothes Mentor and straight into Platos Closet next door without even giving them a chance. Not finding what I was looking for in Platos Closet the other day, I went into Clothes Mentor and found EXACTLY the perfect dress I needed! They have a completely different look and feel than Platos Closet, complete opposites. Platos Closet is stuck up and pre-teen, Clothes Mentor is way more mature and friendly. Clothes Mentor isn't as trendy and cute as Mary Margaret's (who has endless adorable accessories geared towards slightly more adult women). Clothes Mentor is pretty straight-forward adult, mature women's clothing. The ladies at Clothes Mentor were chatting up their customers like I've never seen before. Singing and telling stories, it was like I walked into some secret ladies' society of story telling women. I found the prefect green party dress on the clearance rack for only $10 (marked down from $20 which I probably wouldn't have paid). They have a great rewards program. Double points on Sundays, and if you take your purchase without a plastic bag, you get an extra stamp! read more

You know me....go into a high end used clothing store, and gravitate right to the Coach bags....Holy sh....I would never ever ever pay $120.00 for something used. I know, at Nordstroms the same bag would cost $400, but at the Coach Outlet, how much would it cost? And it'd be new. I have no qualms whatsoever, none, about used clothes. I like thrift shops, but used hand bags are iffie.Something I can get when my work sends me down and around Branson to the outlet area....but still $120.00 is worth considering. But then, no. Can I get past that? I need some cute white colored tunics, or light weight pastel cotton tops.I found them for about $8 to $20 dollars. I found new one's on Amazon for $24. The tops on Amazon are from India, as were the tops at Clothes Mentor that I had in mind. Which I am specifically looking for. What is cool about clothes Mentor would be, if you are starting in the work force, or, infact, needing discounted high end clothes, this is one of the few stores like it that exists in this area. Discount high end can be bought new, at places like Gordmans, or at the Legends in one of the outlet shops. Chances are, I'll be back here. I need some white tunics and they had quite a few. Some were a fantastic price. But it's not that big of a savings or deal to me. Infact, unfortunately, I found Clothing Mentor blah compared to Platos Closet. Which it's supposed to be a more serious store. Each has it's place. I like them both kind of the same. read more

I'll be honest, I didn't buy anything there because I was just reselling clothes and shoes. But I looked at the rack while I was waiting which was only a couple minutes because she didn't look through the clothing just pawed through it lightly. The woman was SNOBBY. She gave me the once over when I walked in so I could tell she was basing what clothes I brought in based on my sweats and disheveled hair. She barely looked at anything I brought in and picked a pair of brand new boots at the top to buy for resell. Granted I looked like crap because I was in the middle of moving but that's still no reason to be snobby. She was not exactly mean but she wasn't pleasant either. The best word would be dismissive. I realized at that moment what Julia Roberts character felt like in Pretty Woman.... But oddly enough in a consignment shop. read more

Better women's clothing at 70% resale savings. I was pleased when I arrived that someone had referred me! You can find great Talbot's jackets for $15 (not $80), Ann Taylor short-sleeve sweater knit tops for $10 (not $60), Chico's two-piece athletic outfits for $14 (not $190), Caché jeans for $18 (not $90) and many Coach purses for $25-$150 (not $200-$600). There are regular, maternity, petite and plus sizes. They also pay cash for your name brand clothes. Although I was disappointed when I took clothes in at what they wanted to purchase - I understood their reasoning. Great shopping for great prices on good quality gently worn clothing. read more

I went to resell some clothing I had from Coldwater Creek. The two ladies had looked through all of the clothes before telling me, since Coldwater Creek is no longer in business, they would not be able to accept any of the items, however, they would like to purchase ONE of the jackets (mind you, from Coldwater Creek) so how are they able to purchase one and not possibly all being they are from the SAME COMPANY?? Lots of high quality clothing & name brands. Chico, Coldwater Creek, Vera Bradley. You can judge the trend level by the name brands. Clothes Mentor has more conservative clothing but this means you won't find cheapo Aeropostale tees which is a very good thing. The clothing is gently used, never thread bare. Everything is easy to reach which is really important to me as I'm only 5'2". OK selection of purses. Some jewelry. Large clearance section. Shoes are well organized and in good condition. Bottom line: The Clothes Mentor is a great place to find name brand clothing that will stand the test of time. read more

Here's the feedback I have for the guy I interacted with at Clothes Mentor: 1.) You are not very friendly - neither over the phone nor in person. I understand that you have a business to run, but you were dismissive and never once smiled. You acted like a temperamental, "grumpy old man" and you were bordering on rude. I got the impression you hate your job...and I think you might actually have been the owner! 2.) I was able to go straight home and sell just two of my items on eBay (the same day) for more then the price you offered me for 10 items. I don't expect to get rich, but I know the value of the high end items I brought in would have enhanced your stock, and fetched you much, much more then the $3 a piece you offered me for 10 items. I could write them off my taxes for more than you were willing to give me, and they were top quality, high brand items - some brand new with tags. You should create an incentive for both buyer and seller - why be so stingy? 3.) The stock you are selling isn't that great. It's really not. I suspect you could actually increase your inventory appeal for your shoppers if you would be more fair with your offers to the people bringing in really nice, clean, quality, high end clothing to sell. After all, you need both the buyers and sellers to be successful. Unfortunately, you were just in it for your grumpy, old self....if that's the business model and reputation you are trying to grow in the community, that's your choice. I dropped some items off for resale. The ladies who work there are snobby. One was really rude. And they both were dressed blah. And considering all the cute things on rack? Why not get things from there? Quality is good. But Revive by Houlihans is way better. The people there are nice. And the store is better looking. read more

This store is a joke. I would give zero stars if allowed. I have taken high end current or previous year women's apparel and they refuse everything. Half of my basket was folded exactly how it was when I dropped it off so I don't think it was even looked through. The employees are rude and condescending. Attempting to sell to this store is joke, I won't waste my time again. If you like a store with Coldwater Creek, Chicos and Vera Bradley, it's a great place to go, for high end quality it is not. read more

I went here to sell my clothes. I am not upset that they did not decide to buy 90% of what I brought in, I am upset by their attitude and service. They were extremely rude. The lady that looked over my clothes was certain one of my items smelled like a cat... I do not own cats and I am never around cats. I feel her "certainty" made her not accept most of my clothes. Along with this, their website says they buy all seasons of clothes year around, however the woman disregarded anything that wasn't built for winter. I knew I wouldn't be getting a ton of money for my clothes, but they only gave me $3.50 for (maybe 6 month old) Old Navy jeans and a year old (worn twice) Old Navy fall dress. I feel that is a bit ridiculous. Honestly, if you want to get rid of your clothes, donate to a thrift store like Goodwill, then people that need quality clothes that can't afford brand new stuff can buy it! I will never bring my business to these snobs again. read more

I had a pleasant experience selling some clothes. I received $17 for 8 items; 2 pair capris and 6 tops. They turned down 2 tops that were a little worn, and all of my jeans because they were not buying jeans today. It was an easy way to clear out some things I no longer need. read more

I recently took some clothes in to sell. I was informed of people in front of me and the wait time so I wandered around the store for awhile. Over an hour later, I asked if my stuff was done yet and the clerk responded, "Yes, we didn't see anything we wanted. I guess you didn't hear me call your name."
